Berkley High School Student Claims Responsibility For Racist Messages That Caused Walkout Yesterday, the students at Berkley High School in California staged a major walkout after racist messages were found written on library computers. There is now a student who is claiming responsibility for alarming and hateful threats that set the walkout in motion. Via InsideBayArea A 15-year-old Berkeley High student confessed Thursday to posting racist slurs a day earlier on a school library computer, the school principal said. More than 1,500 Berkeley High students walked out of classes and marched through city streets Thursday, protesting reports of those slurs. Berkeley police Officer Byron White said the department was pleased to identify the student so quickly. “I think it’s terrific to be able to find out, and rare to solve something like this on the same day,” White said. He said that the case is being reviewed and will most likely be turned over “to juvenile probation for review of charges. It’s a juvenile suspect.” Hopefully this lil’ racist, terrorist, azzhole is punished to the furthest extent that the law allows. Image via Twitter
8-Year-Old Pays Off Lunch Balances Of Less Fortunate Classmates An 8-year-old elementary school student with a big heart made an extraordinary gesture of kindness recently when he summoned his mom to help him raise money for other kids at his school who couldn’t pay their lunch balances. via AOL News An 8-year-old Michigan boy is warming hearts with his act of kindness for fellow students – by paying off their lunch accounts. Cayden Taipalus told WXYZ how he got the idea. “I was in lunch one day getting lunch. And a kid in front of me didn’t have enough money, and they had to put their tray down. And that made me sad, so I went home and asked my mom, what can I do to help?” And with his mom’s help, they were able to get a page on a fundraising site called FundRazr. Cayden’s initial goal was to raise enough money to pay off the lunch accounts for as many kids in his elementary school as possible. As of Sunday morning, Cayden had raised more than $1,600. On top of paying off lunch accounts, Cayden’s mom says her son hopes to put extra money into them. On Friday, Cayden’s mom told WXYZ that her son has been able to help pay for almost 300 school lunches. The school’s principal told the outlet that any student who can’t afford their lunch will still get an alternative lunch, but added he’s happy to see one of his students helping out others. Kudos to this kind-hearted little lad but aside from that…..are these schools really out here letting kids go hungry because their parents can’t pay to feed them school lunch? There HAS to be a better way around that….
This is a powerful video. Group Makes Tribute Video To Bullied Teen Bullying is such a cowardly action. It’s good to see young people doing something positive with their talent. According to Staten Island Advanced: Nearly one year after Tottenville High School Student Felicia Garcia jumped in front of a Staten Island Railway train as a result of being bullied, the spotlight is on a Boston, hip hop group’s release of “Felicia,” a song meant to bring attention to the plight of bullying. Since Ms.Garcia’s death at the Huguenot train station on Oct. 24, 2012, she has become a national symbol for what can happen as a result of bullying. In light of October being National Bullying Prevention month, hip hop group, “Fame or Juliet,” wants to bring attention to Felicia’s story. “We wanted to bring Felicia Garcia’s story to life,” said Jeremias Jimenez, who along with Jason Nambouh and Caleb Michel make up Fame or Juliet, a fledgling group quickly gaining popularity in Massachusetts. Group members learned of Ms. Garcia’s death via news reports, and were inspired to write a song about her in hopes of preventing other teenagers from taking their own lives as a result of bullying by peers. Checkout the video below: What do you think needs to be done to prevent bullying?
High School Student Facing Life In Prison For Rape Prank On Teacher A High school student who tied up his teacher and attempted to force her into a car with a knife during what he called a “senior prank,”could be sentenced to life in prison as a result. via Mercury News A former Redwood City high school student faces a maximum of life in prison after being convicted of the attempted rape and kidnapping of a teacher which he testified was a prank intended just to scare her. The convictions carry a possible life sentence for the ex-Summit Preparatory Charter High School student, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. In nearly emotionless testimony Velasquez told how he hid between some garbage cans in the school parking garage in January 2012 and then “popped out” behind the teacher. After grabbing her with one arm and pointing a knife he held in his other hand at her side, he ordered her to her car parked 80 feet away. The attack ended when another teacher happened upon the crime and screamed. “This is what they call a senior prank,” Velasquez said while under questioning from Deputy District Attorney Tricia Povah. “I decided to do one.” The evening of the attack Velasquez testified he put on sunglasses, a stocking cap, covered his face with a scarf and changed his shirt before crouching between some plastic garbage cans in the parking garage. When the teacher emerged from the school he said he jumped out behind her, prompting her to laugh at first. Velasquez said the “prank” was supposed to be end with him pushing the teacher into her car and slamming the door. Really?? “It was a prank” is the BEST he could do on trial for his life? SMH.
