Will Smith Breaks Down His And Jada’s Parenting Philosophy It’s not secret that Will and Jada’s kids are a bit…different than the average child. Already both creatives with acting and song credits under their belts, well-known for their eclectic styles and artistic streak, and habits toward philosophying on even the simplest isht, Willow and Jaden were clearly cultivated to embrace their every thought and whim. E! News got down to the nitty-gritty of Will and Jada’s parenting style with quotes from over the years detailing what they do as parents that might be just a bit different than the average Mommy and Daddy out here. For one, the Smiths don’t believe in “punishment” for their kids in a traditional sense. As Will said in 2013 : “We don’t do punishment. The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been—it has a little too much of a negative quality.” “So when they do things—and you know, Jaden, he’s done things—you can do anything you want as long as you can explain to me why that was the right thing to do for your life.” And they also give their minis an open forum to speak frankly with them: “They’re allowed to tell us everything that they did [in the circle of safety], and they can’t get in trouble. The rule is, if we find out after the circle of safety that there was something you didn’t say, there was hell to pay.” Granted, we aren’t sure what “hell to pay” really means when there’s no punishment. But he’s big on letting the kids be who they are: “What I do with my children, that I feel that the greatest gift that I can give my children is the freedom to be who they are. [My wife] and I are very serious about finding what they are, and encouraging them to be what they are because you can never be happy being what you’re not.” And ultimately, the Smiths don’t believe in treating their kids as possessions or extensions of them…but as individuals and equals: “I think that, specifically in African American households, the idea coming out of slavery, there’s a concept of your children being property and that was a major part that Jada and I released with our kids. We respect our children the way we would respect any other person. Things like cleaning up their room. You would never tell a full-grown adult to clean their room, so we don’t tell our kids to clean their rooms. We tell our kids, ‘You don’t have a room, that’s our room and we are letting you borrow it.’ So the same way you would say to an adult if you let them use your car, you say, ‘Yo man, clean my car! Don’t drive around all filthy like that!’ And it’s perfectly reasonable for you to want an adult to clean your car, so we feel it’s perfectly reasonable to ask our kids to clean the rooms that we are letting them use.” Interesting! Smith Couple Embroiled In Campbell Couple Bankruptcy Tisha Campbell-Martin and her husband Duane Martin have unfortunately hit a rough financial patch for the moment…but they’ve been getting help from their good buddies Will and Jada. The Daily Mail has exclusively learned that the Smiths’ names have popped up in the bankruptcy proceedings of Tisha and Duane, detailing how they’ve been trying to help their homies out through this tough time… Will and Jada Smith have been roped into their best friends’ bankruptcy after a trustee presiding over Tisha Campbell-Martin and her husband Duane’s case became suspicious of a short sale of their Los Angeles home. The title of the famous couple’s 7,000-plus square foot home was transferred to a family member, and 100 per cent of the money used in the transfer was funded by Will and Jada Smith, according to court papers obtained by Daily Mail Online. The Martins, who have been together for 20 years, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on January 7, claiming they are are drowning in debt and owe more than $15,145,387 in liabilities to creditors. The petition stated that the couple have assets of only $65,000 in real estate and $248,000 in personal property. Their monthly income is $7,655, but their monthly expenses come out to $16,953. They claim to only have $200 in cash and less than $200 in their bank accounts. According to the court documents, in late 2014 the couple orchestrated a short sale with their mortgage lender in which a newly created LLC known as Roxe LLC – owned by Duane Martin’s brother Michael and Derek Folk, the couple’s tax preparer – took title to their home. The short sale price was funded 100 per cent by another third party known as Treyball, which appears to be owned by Will Smith, 47, and Jada Pinkett Smith, 44, who have been friends with Duane and Tisha Martin for years.Furthermore, the Martins – he’s 50 and she’s 47 – prepaid monthly rents to the landlord – Roxe LLC – despite there being no contractual obligation to do so. The trustee presiding over the case suggests that the couple transferred the title to Roxe LLC potentially because they knew they were filing for bankruptcy and were attempting to save their home from being sold off to pay back creditors. Well, no one can say the Smiths aren’t loyal friends! Honestly, if you’re in a position to help out those close to you…as long as it’s all on the legal up and up, we can’t see the problem here! Kim Kardashian jumped on an overnight flight from Los Angeles to New Orleans on Monday in order to help comfort the wife of slain ex-football player Will Smith. As previously reported, the former defensive lineman for the Saints was tragically gunned down in the street on Saturday night after he got into a verbal altercation with a fellow driver. Both Will and his wife, Racquel, were shot after a driver rear-ended their vehicle. An argument ensued and police later arrested a man named Cardell Hayes, alleging that he produced a handgun; fatally shot Will multiple times; and also shot Racquel twice in the leg. She was taken to the hospital as soon as authorities arrived and is expected to make a full recovery. Kim, meanwhile, got to know the Smiths back when Will was a teammate of then-boyfriend Reggie Bush. After learning of the terrible news, she shared the following old photo of herself and Racquel and wrote as a caption: “My heart breaks for my sweet friend Rockie. Will And Jada Smith Quietly Leave Scientology Even though they’ve already shot down reports that they’re headed for splitsville, Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith have already severed some major ties…to the church of Scientology. Insiders confirmed earlier this year that the Smith clan wasn’t a part of their Hollywierd cult. But new tax documents seem to indicate that they actually were highly contributing members at some point…and quietly tiptoed out before speculation became confirmed. Via RadarOnline : Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith insist they are not yet divorcing, but RadarOnline.com can learn that they have already secretly split — from the Church of Scientology! Tax records uncovered by Radar reveal that the acting couple even got a quiet refund on a seven-figure donation they made to a church-affiliated organization, as a former leader confirms they are no longer members. Rumors about the Smiths and the church first surfaced in 2007, when Will told Access Hollywood that super-Scientologist Tom Cruise had introduced him to the religion. Then in 2008, he and his wife donated $70,000 to Scientology causes, according to tax documents for their Will Smith Foundation, and dumped a whopping $1.2 million into the Scientology-centered New Village Leadership Academy in 2011. Tax documents obtained by Radar show that in 2010, the Smiths’ WJS Trust donated $1,235,000 to the NVLA. Though not a strictly Scientologist project, the school used Scientology teachings in its curriculum and was run by individuals with ties to the church. The school closed in 2013, but according to tax records obtained by Radar, the Smiths weren’t left hanging. NVLA’s 2013 tax return shows that the full $1,235,000 was refunded to the WJS trust. Since then, Will and Jada’s foundation has not supported any publicly Scientologist causes. They have, however, donated to several other religious organizations through the Will Smith Foundation. In 2013, for example, they donated $20,000 to the Oaks Christian School in West Lake Village, Calif., $2,000 to the Laurel Street Baptist Church in L.A., and $5,000 to the Macedonia Baptist Church in Jada’s hometown of Baltimore. Interesting. Good thing these two hopped out before ending up profiled on “Going Clear.”
You probably best remember Moises Arias from the Willow Smith photo controversy a few months back. It was pretty creepy stuff and it even led to Will and Jada Smith being investigated by child protective services . No charges were filed, but we imagine these days the Smiths keep a closer eye on their kids’ social networking accounts, and we hope that if Arias shows his face around their home Will promptly tosses him out the front door a la Uncle Phil and DJ Jazzy Jeff. But while there was hopefully some tightening of the rules and a discussion or two about age appropriateness in the Smith household, Arias himself clearly didn’t learn a thing from the whole debacle.
