Chris Brown Turns Up The Crowd At ‘Today’ Show Concert

Breezy captivates fans with hits as well as new tracks from his upcoming album, Fortune. By Miranda Johnson Chris Brown performs on NBC’s “Today” Photo: Jamie McCarthy/WireImage NEW YORK — On Friday morning (June 8), VA hit NY with full force as megastar Chris Brown graced the outdoor stage of the “Today” show summer concert series. The soulful singer enchanted fans as he performed hits as well as a new song, “Don’t Wake Me Up,” from his upcoming album, Fortune. Breezy belted out the songs to the ladies that filled Rockefeller Plaza, singing fan favorites like “Yeah 3X,” “Forever”‘ and “Turn Up The Music.” There was no shortage of energy as Team Breezy responded by screaming at the top of their lungs and yelling out the lyrics to every song. “I love you, Team Breezy!” Chris shouted several times, definitely feeling the love. The “Beautiful People” singer put on a performance to remember, effortlessly gliding across the light-filled stage. Between occasional bursts of smoke, his spirited dance team kept the audience on their feet. Brown recently dropped the video for his summer anthem “Till I Die.” The self-directed vid features Chris stirring up trouble in his 9-to-5, and then later linking up with Wiz Khalifa and Big Sean for a smoke fest. Snoop Dogg also makes a cameo in the clip, picking up his homeys in a yellow, old-school pimp-style convertible. The video wraps as the group reaches their destination: a foggy frat house filled with smoke in which marijuana enthusiasts Method Man and Redman make an appearance. Brown’s Fortune album is set to drop on July 3. What did you think of Chris’ “Today” show set? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Chris Brown

Madonna Filming ‘Turn Up The Radio’ Video In Rome?

Madge is rumored to be filming the clip this weekend, ahead of her MDNA Tour date there next week. By Jocelyn Vena Madonna Photo: Getty Images Madonna went cheerleader chic in her “Give Me All Your Luvin’ ” video. Then she recalled her “Erotica” days for the “Girl Gone Wild” video. Now, it seems she might be living La Dolce Vita in her “Turn Up the Radio” clip. Rumor has it that the singer will film the video on Sunday in Rome, under the direction of her “Give It 2 Me” music video director, Tom Munro. Oh No They Didn’t further reports that the shoot may take place at the Rome Forum. “Turn Up the Radio” was announced as her next MDNA single back in April. A rep for the singer had not responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Currently she’s in between shows on her MDNA Tour , having just performed in Istanbul on Thursday and gearing up to play in Rome at the Olympic Stadium on June 12. The tour kicked off on May 31 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and will continue to travel all around Europe before heading Stateside in August for several months. Then she’ll take the tour to South America in November for a handful of dates. The trek ends in December. Although no details have been confirmed about the video, “Turn Up the Radio” producer Martin Solveig told us recently there are “no limits” to what the pair can do. “We were working with no limits. I think the only thing that she said when we started was, ‘I just want people to be able to dance to my music and connect easily with my music,’ and also probably to take some risks at some point,” Solveig said. “Other than this, it was open to any kind of experimentation.” Related Artists Madonna Martin Solveig

Keith Olbermann Wins Award for ‘Excellence in Electronic Journalism’

It sure is a sign of the times when one of the most disgraceful and unashamedly liberal personalities in the television news industry wins an award for “excellence in electronic journalism.” Despite the seeming incongruity, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann won an Edward R. Murrow award Wednesday from the Radio Television Digital News Association. So what did Olbermann win for you ask? Writing the following tribute to his mother which aired on “Countdown” shortly after her death last year (video follows with commentary): In fairness to Olbermann, it was indeed a charming segment about her love for the game of baseball, though not surprisingly self-aggrandizing like virtually everything he does on and off the air. Of particular note was a video clip he showed of an interview he did with his mother after she was hit by a ball at a game at Yankee stadium on June 17, 2000. At the time he was working for Fox Sports. Readers are encouraged to forward to minute 3:45 when Olbermann asks his mother, “Have you been surprised by all the newspaper attention?” Her response told viewers everything they needed to know about the MSNBCer’s ego, “A little bit, but I want to know why they keep mentioning you!”  Delicious. In the end, as much as I find Keith Olbermann to be a disgusting caricature of what television journalism has degraded to in the past decade, this was certainly a touching tribute to his mother who in 2009, without any warning or apparent symptoms, died two weeks after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. I can imagine the pain he must have been going through at the time, and how difficult it was to get through those seven minutes without shedding a tear. Nice job, Keith.   That said, was this the best-written piece of electronic journalism last year, or did the folks at RTDNA get swept away by the emotional tug at the heartstrings? After all, 2009 was an eventful year what with America inaugurating its first black president, Tea parties breaking out all over the country, members of Congress getting verbally abused at town hall meetings, and the economy coming back from the brink of a depression. With this in mind, was one anchorman’s on air tribute to HIS mother REALLY worthy of such a commendation?   Before you answer, consider that NBC and MSNBC won more Murrow awards this year than any other news outlet. Any questions?
