Machine Gun Kelly Shoots His First Bad Boy Video

‘I never been on a real video set,’ MGK admits to MTV News. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Matt Elias Machine Gun Kelly on the set of the “Stereo” music video Photo: MTV News Bigger deals mean bigger budgets. While on the come-up, Cleveland, Ohio’s Machine Gun Kelly made the most of his independent music grind, but his new deal with Diddy ‘s Bad Boy Records has allowed the rapid-fire rapper to do things slightly bigger. “This is the first video we’re doing with Bad Boy/Interscope,” MGK told MTV News on Monday while on the set of the Colin Tilley-directed clip for his mixtape cut “Stereo.” “Man, our videos? C’mon man, they’re like all directed by us; like jokes, then we turn it and flip it and make it great,” he said of his past vids like “Cleveland” and “Salute.” For “Stereo,” Kells invaded Fred C. Nelles Youth Correctional Facility in Whittier, California. “We shut the whole thing down, moved all the prisoners in one room and they’re all jerking off together, it’s pretty crazy,” he joked. “It’s just a bunch of just badass girls, and we’re all just getting shipped to the correctional facility and we’re just having a bad time. It’s like the music comes on and it kinda cheers us up, kinda just excited and ready to do whatever.” In August, Diddy announced that he signed MGK on “RapFix Live,” and while Kelly doesn’t exactly fit the Bad Boy rapper mold set by the likes of the Notorious B.I.G. , Mase and the LOX , Combs insisted that he doesn’t want the youngster to change a thing. “He will not be changing for Bad Boy; he will not have a typical Bad Boy swag,” Diddy said. “He’s not going to be popping champagne or driving around in Bentleys. He’s gonna be him and true to himself. He has a lot of creative control in his project.” After breaking through with his 2010 mixtape Lace Up, MGK caught hip-hop’s attention. His popularity began to grow so much that the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers began to play his hometown ode “Cleveland” at home games during the 2010-2011 basketball season. On the upbeat “Stereo,” MGK raps metaphorically about his love affair with music and his stereo. For Kells, turning his underground fan-favorite into his first big visual means the world to him. “We’re just about being organic and keeping everything how it was before the deal, so we’re taking one of the older songs that the fans love,” he said. “I never been on a real video set. I’m so happy I’m from Cleveland, Ohio, dude. This whole experience is just crazy.” Related Artists Machine Gun Kelly

Diddy-Dirty Money Get AMA Crowd Swaying With ‘Coming Home’

Typically flashy rapper slows it down at the American Music Awards — but he still brings the fireworks. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images/DCP Diddy knows a thing or two about showstopping performances, but during the 2010 American Music Awards, the hip-hop mogul had a more measured set as Dirty Money’s Dawn Richard and Kalenna flanked him through a reflective rendition of his latest, “Coming Home.” “What am I supposed to do when the club lights come on?” Diddy rapped, sporting all-black attire and a half-moon hair part. “It’s easy to be Puff, but it’s harder to be Sean/ What if my twins ask why I ain’t marry their mom?/ Damn, how do I respond?/ What if my son stares with a face like my own?/ And says he wants to be like me when he’s grown?/ Sh–, but I ain’t finish growing.” The rest of his Dirty Money crew wore white and followed Diddy’s lead in the elegant performance. The rapper arrived in a whirl of smoke while his orchestra played up the triumphant track, which will appear on Diddy-Dirty Money’s forthcoming Last Train to Paris. As he reached the stirring lyrics about his offspring, the camera panned to his youngest son, Christian Combs, who had a smile as bright as his father’s jewelry. Fireworks dotted the superstar’s performance, and the audience swayed their arms in unison throughout. “Let the rain wash away/ All the pain of yesterday,” Richard and Kalenna sang on the chorus. “I know my kingdom awaits/ And they’ve forgiven my mistakes/ I’m coming home, coming home/ Tell the world I’m coming home.” What did you think of Diddy’s AMA performance? New Kanye West Track, ‘Lost In The World,’ Leaks Online

Song samples Bon Iver and Gil Scott-Heron. By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images A third track from Kanye West’s forthcoming album, tentatively due November 22, leaked online Wednesday morning (September 29). The haunting “Lost in the World” samples Bon Iver’s “Woods” and includes lyrics the rapper recited during a visit to Rolling Stone magazine that was posted on YouTube . “Lost in the World” follows “Power” and “Runaway.” The latter was also recited by West at the RS offices and premiered during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards . Like the previous two tracks, “Lost in the World” features weightier lyrics from ‘Ye than the material he’s been releasing weekly as part of the G.O.O.D. Fridays series on his blog. The new song is topped off with the vocals from Gil Scott-Heron’s fiery spoken-word number “Comment #1.” On the Auto-Tune heavy track, West harmonizes on the chorus an interpolation of Bon Iver’s “Woods”: “I’m lost in the world, been down my whole life, I’m new in the city, but I’m down for the night.” “You’re my devil, you’re my angel,” he begins the song. “You’re my heaven, you’re my hell/ You’re my now, you’re my forever/ You’re my freedom, you’re my jail/ You’re my lies, you’re my truth/ You’re my war, you’re my truce/ You’re my questions, you’re my proof/ You’re my stress, you’re my masseuse.” The track clocks in at just under six minutes and features a number of musical changes throughout the production. The song starts off faintly with the Bon Iver vocoder-tinged sample before pulsating drums pick up the tempo. Midway through, however, the song slows down to a measured tempo as Scott-Heron’s vocals fire through the beat. “Who will survive in America,” Scott-Heron’s voice chants over and over before the song ends with a mild hand-clap. Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Inferno’ Director Admits ‘Exasperation’

‘But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage,’ Matthew Wilder tells MTV News of jailed leading lady. By Kara Warner Lindsay Lohan on set of “Inferno” Photo: TylerShields.com Lindsay Lohan’s return to jail on Friday (September 24) as a result of a probation violation has no doubt put another kink in the problem-plagued actress’ attempts to revive a once-thriving career. Specifically, production on the Linda Lovelace biopic, “Inferno,” which was set to begin filming in November, may be hampered by the ongoing legal troubles of its leading lady. Still, “Inferno” director Matthew Wilder, who has been unyielding in his support for his star, said the show will go on — with Lohan. “We love her. We want her to do well,” Wilder wrote in a statement e-mailed to MTV News. “We will make the picture shortly.” Wilder added that the film will now shoot in Los Angeles instead of Louisiana, as was originally planned. “I think [it] will make things easier on the Lindsay front,” he said. “I understand people’s exasperation,” Wilder admitted, referring to the former Disney darling’s string of questionable life choices over the last few years. “I share it. But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage.” During Lohan’s hearing on Friday, Judge Elden Fox did not hear any testimony from Lohan’s lawyers before denying the 24-year-old “Mean Girls” star bail and ordering her to report to jail. Lohan was reportedly handcuffed in court before being taken into custody, meaning she could be behind bars until the next hearing in the case, scheduled for October 22. According to the conditions of her post-rehab release, Lohan could spend 30 days in jail. She served 13 days of a 90-day jail sentence in July over a probation violation from a pair of 2007 DUI cases; she subsequently spent 23 days in a rehab facility, serving less than one third of her 90-day court-ordered sentence. Are you surprised that Lindsay’s “Inferno” director is standing by her? Tell us in the comments. Nicki Minaj’s ‘Right Through Me’ Is Huge, Birdman Says

Cash Money CEO thinks leaked single will take singer to ‘another level.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Baby Photo: MTV News So far, Nicki Minaj is batting .500 when it comes to her singles. The over-hyped “Massive Attack” faded faster than a narcoleptic, and her tame (by Barbiez standards) “Your Love” landed atop the Billboard Rap Songs chart. However, Cash Money co-founder Bryan “Birdman/Baby” Williams thinks “Right Through Me,” which leaked online Wednesday , will take the Lil Wayne prot

Justin Bieber’s Triple-Threat VMA Performance: Making The Show

Best New Artist winner was incredibly hands-on, weighing in on his dancers, drum kit and leather lettermen jackets before the big show. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber rehearses for the 2010 VMAs Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Before Justin Bieber even hit the stage for rehearsal at L.A. Live on the Friday before the VMAs, you could feel the energy in the air. And once the teen pop star actually began rehearsing, it became clear Bieber’s Video Music Awards performance would be influenced by the “A Hard Day’s Night”-inspired VMA promo he shot. Bieber first did a rough run-through of a medley of his hits “U Smile,” “Baby” and “Somebody to Love.” Then he stepped out of a chauffeured red-and-white ’57 Chevy, followed by a gaggle of female fans — an obvious reference to the Beatles. When Justin took to the stage, he wanted to make sure he got everything right: from the way his drum kit sounded to the way his dancers hit their marks to the look of his leather jackets for the show. With the girls surrounding the stage as they watched Bieber rehearse, the driven, hard-working teen proved he would be hands-on and involved in every detail. What was perhaps most surprising was that his outdoor rehearsal went virtually unnoticed by anyone other than those involved with the practice session. While Bieber seemed to be nailing an engaging first VMA performance, Kim Kardashian could be heard teasing about their “romance” in a hilarious voiceover. As the hour-and-a-half-long rehearsal progressed, fans did eventually turn up — one even shouted to Bieber, “Follow me on Twitter!” — but the scene around the barricaded stage area remained relatively chill. Justin made sure to remind fans of one thing: “What’s up, everybody? I love you!” The rehearsal ended with Bieber at the drums, closing out “Somebody to Love,” with black and red confetti falling from the sky. It remained entangled in the trees right through Sunday, when yet more confetti came down on the Best New Artist winner. The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Eminem And Rihanna’s Triumphant VMA Plan: Making The Show

Between commitments in Hawaii and NYC, the hit collaborators found time to kick off the show in style. By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by James Montgomery Eminem performs during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards Photo: Kevin Mazur/EM/WireImage In the days before Eminem’s opening performance at the 2010 Video Music Awards on Sunday, the MC had to do a little juggling. Not only did he have to make room in his schedule for the big show; he had to work out a cross-country trip so that he’d arrive in New York in time for the first of his two Yankee Stadium shows with Jay-Z on Monday night (September 13). But though the MC wasn’t able to stick around and accept his wins for Best Male Artist and Best Hip-Hop Video, he planned to open the show proving that he was already a winner. ” Eminem is opening the show , and the theme of his performance is ‘triumph,’ ” VMA executive producer Dave Sirulnick told MTV News in the days prior the broadcast. “It’s a testament to the year he’s had, his return to the top. He tells a story, and the viewers will definitely pick up on that.” At first, it seemed like Eminem wasn’t the only person with scheduling troubles. “Love the Way You Lie” collaborator Rihanna originally said she wouldn’t be able to make the show because she was in Hawaii, shooting “Battleship.” But then, she either changed her mind at the last minute or planned to trick us all along. The flame-haired singer took the stage and belted out her haunting chorus at the end of Em’s set. “SURPRISE!!!” she tweeted after the performance. “Just had to do it, guys.” The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com.
