With just a week to go until its long-awaited release, we look back on the year-long journey to the Throne. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images The wait is almost over. On August 8, Jay-Z and Kanye West (now collectively known as the Throne ) will drop their long-awaited, full-length album Watch the Throne on iTunes as a digital exclusive, with physical retailers to follow on August 12. It was August 2010 when Kanye first sent the rap world buzzing when he tweeted, “Me and jay bout to drop a 5 song album called ‘Watch the Throne.’ ” By October, that five-song EP had turned into a full-length LP. West confirmed with MTV News ‘ Sway that he and Hov were going all in. Sorry, Jay,” he chuckled. “But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.” Things didn’t quite work out as planned, or perhaps Kanye overstated things, but the recording took way more than 24 hours. Nevertheless, while on a promo run to promote his book told Sway that he enjoyed working with Kanye and marveled at his growth as a beatmaker and lyricist. “This is another level of that recording,” Hov said. “Because Kanye, I’ve seen him — really, he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now. And to see him as a producer and to see how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable. I’m watching the guy that I pretty much mentored become his own guy, with his own opinion. It’s fantastic.” Fanatics wouldn’t get their first taste of Watch the Throne until January 2011 when the duo released “H.A.M.,” the Lex Luger-produced energy ball that found ‘Ye and Jay trading braggadocios verses. In the end, however, ‘H.A.M.” wasn’t the big hit that fans and pundits expected. Still, expectations for the album remained high. “There’s songs on there that’s making you go crazy,” Swizz Beatz told MTV News of the project without revealing too much. “That album is amazing, but I have to let those guys talk about that, because that’s their expression. All I can tell you is it passed the bar.” Read MTV News’ first impressions of the album after an exclusive listening session. Anticipation led to multiple rumors about the LP’s release date. First, it was reported that Throne would drop on July 4. Instead, during the Fourth of July weekend, the LP was made available for pre-order . Soon after, an official track list was revealed on Jay’s Life and Times blog. The track list confirmed that Beyonc

Why Yes, Sigourney Weaver Would Like to Do Another Aliens Movie

Here at Movieline HQ we clearly worship at the altar of Ellen Ripley . Who doesn’t? Partly because Sigourney Weaver ‘s sci-fi heroine rocked our socks in (most of) the Alien films — hey, Alien Resurrection wasn’t her fault — and also thanks to the fact that no woman has come close to achieving her level of badass in the movies since, another Ripley-centric Aliens sequel sounds like a plum idea. And Weaver herself agrees.

REVIEW: Genre Confusion Makes For Hard-to-Watch Dilemma

The Dilemma , Ron Howard’s cheerless, would-be relationship farce, begins with two couples around a dinner table and ends with two men running into each other’s arms. Ronny (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Kevin James) are tight. Friends since college, they share their lives, they share a business — Nick designs car engines and Ronny sells them to Big Auto — and they’ve shared a woman at least once, just to keep things on the level. They share, in other words, the kind of bond that has transformed a certain kind of comedy into a homo-social love story, a soft-core sausage fest.

Paz de la Huerta’s Ass for Paper Magazine of the Day

I watched parts of Boardwalk Empire….most of those parts included Paz de la Huerta’s parts ….cuz she consistently showed off her twat…..her hairy hipster pretending to be the 1920s bush…and now she’s in a hipster magazine showing off her hipster tattoo while wearing men’s underwear, a fetish I’ve never been too into…but I can assume at least one of you has been into….becuase I used to live with a guy who would dress up any girl he was banging in a pair of little kid briefs, I’m talking the ones with the Superman logo, but that was on a whole other level of weird….not that it matters…cuz nothing really matters…excpet maybe this moment we are sharing right now…I know I’ll bring this with me on the rest of my journey….weirdos…

Will a Rise in Cyber-Terrorism Make Thrillers and Action Films Boring?

So, yes, a group of anonymous hackers broke into Gawker’s system and compromised the security of up to 1.3 billion users in what some are calling one of the largest attacks on a media site to date. But, depending on your level of paranoia, it gets worse. Others have argued that this attack – taken with the recent attacks on Visa, Mastercard and PayPal in response of Wikileaks reprimands – signals a new era of cyber-terrorism where small groups can wreak mass amounts of havoc at will. After taking all of this in, I did what I usually do when the news unsettles me a bit: I thought about movies. Then I realized that a sharp rise in cyber-terrorism will probably ruin movies too.
