Mel B is the new face of Jenny Craig in Australia and New Zealand. Though she only gave birth a month ago, she’s enlisted the help of the weight loss company to help her lose 33 pounds of “baby fat,” according to Daily Mail UK . At a breakfast launch in Sydney, the 36-year-old, mother of 4, said: “I was eating literally eating morning, noon and night, and it didn’t matter what time. I was just eating. I was a house. I love my humps and bumps, but when a newspaper described my shape as the ‘bootylicious, curvylicious, post-baby body of Melanie’, I knew I had to do something. I had to get the eating under control. I have already been exercising but what I need is a little push to help me start eating sensibly. I really allowed myself the chance to pig out during this pregnancy, so I’ve got a bit of weight to lose.” She added: “Life gets a bit crazy when you’ve got four daughters but it’s important for us moms to live healthy and to be in good shape. Moms really need to take time for themselves and get to a place where they are happy with their body again. We should not put it off because we deserve more than that. A healthy happy mom equals a healthy happy family.” Do you think it’s too soon to start losing the weight? Or is Mel B. making all the right moves? Mel B. Shows Off Post-Baby Body [PHOTO] Mel B. Casting Michael Shannon as a potential psychotic is a bit like crowing over the discovery that water is wet. And sure enough, in Jeff Nichols’s Take Shelter , Shannon gets his chance to go all bug-eyed and thin-lipped, to sweat through his clothes, to go ballistic on the neighbors, warning them that a big storm is coming and it’s going to wipe them out if they don’t get ready.
What keeps Tom Cruise relevant after 30 years in Hollywood? Take this hint from his Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol director Brad Bird: “You look at the directors he’s worked with It’s a who’s who. Scorsese and Kubrick and Spielberg and Oliver Stone — when Oliver Stone was making better movies — and Michael Mann and Sydney Pollack and on and on and on. It’s kind of stunning. Not every one of them was a great movie, but he’s worked with great directors over and over again, and you can engage him in those conversations.” Or Paul Thomas Anderson. Or Ridley Scott. Or Brian De Palma. Or John Woo. Or Neil Jordan. Isn’t Quentin Tarantino hiring at the moment ? Let’s make that happen. [ LAT ]
This fall’s hit baseball drama Moneyball stars Brad Pitt as a beleaguered Oakland A’s general manager who turns his team around with a formula designed for quality optimization. Ironically, director Bennett Miller employed a similar strategy when adapting Moneyball , the long-gestating project based on Michael Lewis’s book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game for the screen.
There’s always been a soft spot in my heart for grand, uncompromising, crazy-eyed acts of directorial ambition/folly — films like Southland Tales and The Fountain , Heaven’s Gate and One From The Heart — that are either disaster or genius depending on who you talk to but that could never be described as restrained. Margaret , playwright Kenneth Lonergan’s second turn as a director after 2000’s very good You Can Count on Me , joins these titles after spending years in post-production purgatory as Lonergan reportedly struggled over a final cut, following lawsuits and studio battles and delays upon delays. (Among those listed in the opening credits are two people who’ve passed away since production began, executive producer Anthony Minghella and producer Sydney Pollack.)
Actor died in Sydney on Sunday after battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. By Gil Kaufman Andy Whitfield Photo: FilmMagic Andy Whitfield, star of the Starz Entertainment sword-and-sandal series “Spartacus,” died in Australia on Sunday at the age of 39. The muscled actor succumbed to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a type of blood cancer with which he was diagnosed in March 2010, according to The New York Times. Whitfield was born in Wales, but made his home in Australia, where he first came to attention after stints in a number TV shows, including “All Saints” and “Packed to the Rafters.” The sometime model had his biggest breakthrough, though, when he was cast in the Starz series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” in which he played the title role of a soldier who leads a rebellion against the Roman Empire. The series was an instant hit thanks to his turn in the classic role that had previously been filled by such screen icons as Kirk Douglas. Look back when Hollywood Crush named Andy Whitfield a Hump Day Hottie last year. After his diagnosis last March, Whitfield began to undergo treatment in New Zealand, which led to the delay of the second season of the show and the filming of a six-part prequel, “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” for which he provided some voiceover work. He was initially declared cancer-free a few months after treatment, but suffered a relapse later in the year that forced him to abandon the role, which was recast. His wife, Vashti, issued a statement on Sunday confirming his death. “On a beautiful sunny Sydney morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his love wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18-month battle with lymphoma cancer … he passed peacefully surrounded by love,” the statement said. “Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have helped carry him to this point. He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was.” The cable network Whitfield called home also released a statement on his passing. “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear friend and colleague, Andy Whitfield,” said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. “We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in ‘Spartacus’ and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life. Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and fans.”
Andy Whitfield, the British actor who starred on the first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand , has passed away from non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was 37. Whitfield was diagnosed with treatable Stage 1 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in March of 2010, but determined to be cancer-free two months later. However, Starz announced in September of that year that Whitfield would not be return for the show’s second season because he had to undergo “aggressive treatment” for a recurrence of the disease. Australian actor Liam McIntyre was named Whitfield’s successor. In a statement released to the Associated Press, it was announced that a “beautiful young warrior,” passed away on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife.” Our thoughts go out to his family and loved ones.
