The Voice Recap: Who Survived Night 2 of the Battles?

The Battle Rounds continued on Tuesday’s episode of The Voice, and there were some big shockers.  Certain performers who were solid in the Blind Auditions completely fizzled out. Others continued to turn in winning performances.  But who did not get through to the next stage? Find out below.  Team Kelly: Kymberli Joye vs. OneUp – “Mercy” In a rare feat, Kymberli went up against not one, but two competitors thanks OneUp being a duo. As we previously said, OneUp’s vocals are not all that.  And that’s wh Kymberli won this heat with flying colors. Some would say it wasn’t a fair fight for OneUp, but that’s to be expected when there is just one duo in the process.  Team Adam: Steve Memmolo vs. Anthony Arya – “Amy” This was a fair fight. They were both not that great in the Blinds, so pitting them together made for a surprisingly competitive performance.  Steve definitely had the edge, and that was made obvious by his higher vocals. In the end, Adam kept Steve, but Anthony got a reprieve thanks to Jennifer.  Team Adam: Tyke James vs.Jarred Matthew – “She’s Always a Woman” Okay, so we’re still unsure why either of these two got through the Blinds, but here we are. But one of them had to win, and it was genuinely difficult to tell them apart in the midst of all the screaming.  Tyke took the win, and thankfully, there was no steal in play. Phew.  Team Blake: Chris Kroeze vs. Mercedes Ferreira-Dias – “Back in the High Life Again” There were a lot of issues with this Battle. Both artists did not sound good together, and that’s why it would come down to the personal preference of the coach.  Neither was better than the other. They were limited by their shared lack of ability.  Team Blake: Katrina Cain vs. Rachel Messer on “Angel” Katrina has been a solid performer ever since her turn in the Blind Auditions, but what the heck was wrong with her voice during this Battle? Had she been replaced with someone who looked like her? In any case, she secured the win over Rachel, but something tells me Rachel should have won this round.  That’s a wrap on Night 2 of the Battle Rounds. There’s still a lot to come from the Battles before we get to the Knockouts and the Playoffs.  There’s also the big twist coming up, so there’s that.  Hit the comments below.  The Voice continues Monday on NBC.  View Slideshow: The Voice Winners: RANKED!

The Voice Recap: Is Adam Levine Doomed?

The Blind Auditions continued last night on The Voice, and that meant there was another batch of sub-par performers given the opportunity to advance to the next stage of the competition.  Granted, most of the dull performances hailed from Team Adam.  Also odd: ABC aired American Idol opposite The Voice. Do we really need these two shows fighting it out for more viewers than the other? Let’s break down the performances! Stephanie Skipper – “Piece by Piece”  Stephanie plucked up the courage to perform a Kelly Clarkson number in front of Kelly herself, and it was a robust performance that was different enough from the original to set herself apart.  Kelly did not seem impressed and didn’t turn her chair around. Luckily, Adam snapped the Nashville native up for his team.  Tish Haynes Keys – “Chain of Fools”  Tish opened up about falling pregnant at just 14 years old, and she claimed that it changed her life. Her performance was solid, but not spectacular.  “You just killed Aretha Franklin!” said a shocked Kelly. Alas, she joined Team Adam.  Bransen Ireland – “Tulsa Time”  The first big miss of the night came in the form of Bransen. His vocals were most certainly not up there as the best, but he seemed like a natural fit for Team Blake. The troubling thing about it was that Blake failed to turn around initially, and it took him some time to get on board with all of it.  Teana Boston – “Unfaithful”  Teana could have fooled us if she hit the stage and said she was a guest performer. She was polished and had a significant stage presence.  She should make it far into the competition, but this show has been known to cut acts in their prime. Maybe Team Kelly will serve her well.  Miya Bass – “Issues”  While Miya Bass may have charisma for days, her song choice was way off for her audition. There was nothing about it that made her seem like a marketable artist.  Adam’s team is beginning to look like the go-to place for the contestants who are just not great at performing.  Jordan Kirkdorffer – “In Case You Didn’t Know” This was another one of those middle of the road performances. We’re sure there must have been better contestants than Jordan to put through.  We’re sure if he performed a pop song, he would not have joined Team Kelly … or any of the other coaches for that matter.  Shana Halligan – “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” After a string of downright dreadful performances, Shana appeared and reignited my interest in the show. Her vocals tugged at the heart because they were so beautiful.  Team Alicia is the perfect place for her.  Gary Edwards – “What’s Going On”  Gary was ready to graduate from the church stage to the bigger stages that would propel him to stardom. His voice matched up, and he proved he has what it takes to become a professional singer.  At least Adam finally got someone on his team who could make it far.  Hannah Goebel – “If I Ain’t Got You” In true The Voice fashion, the show left the best for last. Hannah scaled a lot of vocal heights throughout. We may very well have a finalist right here, you guys! What did you think of the latest performances? Sound off below.  View Slideshow: The Voice Winners: RANKED!

The Voice Results: Who Survived the Bloodbath?

Monday night, The Voice top eight performances showed America everything the remaining contenders have left in the tank on NBC. Only four would survive … making this the mother of all results shows. So who would outlast the rest and who would fall by the wayside? In The Voice’s ever-changing, never-uninteresting format: Three artists of the final eight automatically advanced to the finale, while the bottom two were eliminated right off the bat Tuesday night. That left the remaining three artists had to battle it out for the instant save, so in that way it ended on the same note as previous weeks. The first artist to advance to the Season 12 finale, as per The Voice results unveiled last night, was … Team Alicia’s Chris Blue! Chris secured his second consecutive four-coach standing ovation the previous night, so that was hardly a surprise, or a fluke. Next up and on her way to the final episode of the season was Team Blake’s Lauren Duski. A job very well done by the singer. Carson Daly then announced the results that sent a third artist straight through to next week … Team Blake’s Aliyah Moulden. And then there were six … after Team Blake’s TSoul and Team Alicia’s Vanessa Ferguson were both eliminated just like that. That left the fans with the following three: 1. Team Adam’s Jesse Larson 2. Team Gwen’s Hunter Plake 3. Team Gwen’s Brennley Brown  Three singers, one spot and one song. Brown performed Demi Lovato’s ‘Warrior,” putting her own stamp on it and showcasing the range of talent that got her to this point. Plake performed “Love Runs Out” by OneRepublic, with some creativity that many felt was lacking from his performance Monday. Larson performed “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, and his impressive vocals were enough to earn those coveted tweets. Jesse advanced to the finale, keeping Team Adam’s hopes alive and eliminating Team Gwen in one fell swoop. So the field is set. The top four artists will compete in next week’s The Voice finale. What did you think of The Voice results? Did America get it right?

The Voice Recap: Who Made It Through the Knockouts?

After fighting through the auditions and the battle rounds, the hopefuls made their way to the knockout rounds, and it sent the competition into overdrive.  The contestants continued to fight to make it to the live shows, but who was cut from the competition? Who did not make it all the way to the live sbows? We have the full roundup of a solid episode of this NBC reality series.  Chris Blue and Quizz Swanigan We already knew that Chris Blue and Quizz Swanigan were excellent singers and the first round of the knockouts showed that off. The pair sang “Superstitious” by Stevie Wonder, but it was evident Chris was the better singer.  Chris hit all of the notes flawlessly, while Quizz meandered his way to the finish line, so the results were not all that surprising.  Winner: Chris Blue Steal Quizz Swanigan to Team Gwen Autumn Turner and Hanna Eyre Hanna went with “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis, and it was a delightful performance. Even though the song has been performed to death on singing competition series, there was still a lot to like about it.  Autumn went with Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” and found herself in a lot of trouble. Gwen branded it a terrible song choice and said that she should have chosen something else.  Ultimately, this became clear as day when the results came in.  Winner: Hanna Eyre Hunter Plake and Johnny Gates Hunter went with “I Want to Know What Love Is” by Foreigner. It was solid, and the dude has the potential to become a huge star.  Johnny went with “Million Reasons” by Lady Gaga. Hunter was definitely better in his performance and managed to hit all of his notes without thinking about it.  Winner: Hunter Plake Casi Joy and Felicia Temple With the knockouts in full swing, Felicia came out guns blazing with a solid performance, but she never made it through to the next stage of the competition.  Casi turned in a solid performance, but it was evident Felicia had the edge, so it was surprising Casi eked out the victory.  Winner: Casi Joy Johnny Hayes and Josh West Josh went with an infectious rendition of “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas, while Johnny went with “Statesboro Blues” by Allman Brothers. Both performances were up there as the best of the night.  It did seem like Johnny had the edge, but the judges felt otherwise.  Winner: Josh West Ashley Levin and Lilli Passero Ashley went with “Fancy” by Bobbie Gentry, and Lilli went with “Tears Dry On Their Own” by Amy Winehouse. Ashley’s was somewhat memorable, while Lilli’s was not all that.  That did not mean that Ashley’s game was over.  Winner: Ashley Levin Steal: Lilli Passero to Adam Levine View Slideshow: Reality TV Star Salaries: Who Makes the Most?

The Voice Results: Who Got the Chop … and the Save?!

Who’s going home on The Voice this week? That is never an easy question to answer, and boy was the tension high as the results show went down to the wire once more on Tuesday. In the wake of the 2016 presidential election results, we’ve learned not to put too much faith in polls slash iTunes charts slash CW. Conventional wisdom, that is. Not The CW network. Although we don’t put a lot of faith in that either when it comes to The Voice results, because why should we? Anyway, downloads of The Voice Top 12 performances are one component of the elimination, along with online, Facebook and app votes. And, of course, Twitter. Oh yes, saving the best for last, those in danger of going home end up battling for a Twitter save in real time, which is borderline thrilling. This week, there will be two singers at the bottom, one instant save, and only one elimination. So with all of that said, let’s get into it man! The singers declared safe last night: Ali Caldwell (Team Miley) Wé McDonald (Team Alicia) Brendan Fletcher (Team Adam) Courtney Harrell (Team Blake) Billy Gilman (Team Adam) Darby Walker (Team Miley) Austin Allsup (Team Blake) Christian Cuevas (Team Alicia) Josh Gallagher (Team Adam) Sundance Head (Team Blake) That left Sa’Rayah of Team Alicia to go against Aaron Gibson of Team Miley, battling it out for the final spot in next week’s top 11 show. Sa’Rayah belted out Aretha Franklin’s “Rock Steady” while Aaron chose Ed Sheeran’s “Lego House” to sing for his life, and the save. Ultimately, as the tweets piled up … Aaron earned the nod. Sa’Rayah has been eliminated, even if her funk classic cover had a lot more energy than Aaron’s acoustic jam. America has spoken. Do you agree? There have been no shortage of controversial ousters on The Voice and this one will be no different. In truth, the show has too much talent. An embarrassment of riches, even. No matter who gets cut, it feels like a travesty some weeks, whereas on other such competitions, you wish they would eliminate more. That speaks to the show itself, and the fact that it’s going so strong after 11 seasons also tells you pretty much all you need to know. Sound off on The Voice results!

Gavin Rossdale: Gwen Stefani is So Incredible!

So Gavin Rossdale is pretty awful, right? He’s always seemed kind of slimy, and honestly, it’s 2016: why is Bush still a thing? Throw in all those rumors that his divorce from Gwen Stefani was brought on because of a sordid affair he had with their nanny , and, well, he’s pretty much the worst. But even though anyone with the tiniest bit of consideration would slither into the shadows after what happened with Gwen, Gavin is, for some unfathomable reason, still insisting on being famous . And not only is he still insisting on being famous, he took on the weirdest, most questionable role thinkable for a famous musician who just got divorced from Gwen Stefani. He’s on The Voice, guys. Well, he’s on the UK version of The Voice, but he’s a coach, just like Gwen — he spins around in a little red chair and everything. It’s awkward, isn’t it? He didn’t have to do a singing competition show, and if he did, he didn’t have to do Gwen’s show — the same show on which she found her new guy . It’s actually kind of creepy. And if you think that’s creepy, then just wait till you hear Gavin acknowledge how creepy it is. “It’s ironic,” he said about landing the exact same gig as his former wife. “It’s like nothing’s surprising anymore.” You can say that again. “She’s so incredible at it,” he went on. “I’ve watched her.” “She’s really, really brilliant at that show. She’s so natural at it. I hope that I’m just half as good as her.” This is, funnily enough, the first time that Gavin’s directly spoken about Gwen since she filed for divorce last year. He’s touched a little on the divorce itself though, and he did so just a couple of weeks ago in an interview with The Sunday Times. Hilariously, he said “It’s like, enough already. I’ve got to move on. Everyone has got to move on.” Really, bud? Because that seems like an awful lot of talk for someone who just took the exact same job as his ex-wife. If he really wanted to move on, he could have taken literally any other gig. But what fun would that be for a big ol’ creeper like Gavin?
