Demi Lovato to Bath Salt Rapping X Factor Hopefuls: See Ya!

Be warned, future X Facto r hopefuls: Demi Lovato means business. Especially when it comes to drugs. The new judge – whose history with substance abuse is well-known – reportedly stopped a couple of contestants in their rapping tracks this week because their lyrics included references to “bath salts,” a synthetic powder that has been compared to cocaine and crystal meth – and was even rumored to be responsible for zombie attacks in Miami earlier this year. Said an E! News source of the Greensboro audition: “She wasn’t having any of it. She said ‘It’s really irresponsible to be rapping about drugs in front of kids.’ Then they tried to make excuses and Demi said, ‘You talked about bath salts, I heard you.'” Lovato ordered the young rappers to exit the stage, the insider added, and the “rest of the judges completely backed her.” Between this example, and reports that Britney Spears recently walked off the X Factor set because a drag queen tried to pay tribute to her with a rendition of “(You Drive Me) Crazy,” there’s little doubt: Season 2 of the Fox competition will bring the serious drama!

Joe Gendreau on The Bachelorette Elimination: Just Too Different From Emily

Joe Gendreau’s time to impress Emily Maynard expired this week. Reflecting on the non-love connection that earned him a rare one-on-one date boot on The Bachelorette Monday, he said it just didn’t work out. Nothing scandalous or incendiary about it. Just didn’t click. “I tried to keep the rose out of mind. I didn’t want to look at it as a challenge and be like, ‘I really want that rose,'” Gendreau said. “I wanted to see how my time was with her and entertain the idea of being able to hit it off with her.” “I thought it was going well, but ultimately didn’t work out. We really didn’t hit it off with each other. We are in different places in our lives.” “I’m a single, free-spirited individual. Emily, she is looking for someone more settled and committed to family and work.” To that effect, Joe’s “five-year-plan” seemed to be his undoing. “I said, ‘I want to be happy with no regrets’ in five years … I think she was more looking for more detail like, ‘I want to be here with these many kids.'” “I didn’t take offense. She’s determined in what she wants and she didn’t see that in me. I answered truthfully. That’s me being myself.” “I was not closed-minded about it. I want to have kids and marriage in my life one day, [but] I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.” “Whether she made the right decision is on her. After she made her mind up, I was content to move on. I was really happy with everything.” “We just didn’t click. She was very sweet, and I wish her the best.” As for who he thinks Emily Maynard’s ends up with in the end? “My money’s on Jef. He seems like a great guy, a caring individual, and he’s got some money. I’m sure that’s going to put me in a doghouse,” he said. “Arie and Sean will stick around too. And maybe Doug, the guy who got the first impression rose. They’re solid good guys, good character.” Sounds like someone’s been reading The Bachelorette spoilers … or watching the first two episodes on TV. That’s all we’ll say for now.

Britney Spears’ X Factor Contract Lets Her Leave Whenever She Wants, Report Claims

An interesting explanation of Britney Spears walking off The X Factor set Thursday has emerged in a new report on TMZ: She did because she can. The show wanted Spears so badly, they literally gave away the candy store … well not literally, although she could probably buy a candy store. With a deal paying her $15 million for one season, Britney is raking it in, and that’s not even all. Her contract basically gives her carte blanche. Spears has the right to do things during production that are not “normal,” insiders say, and that includes taking breaks whenever she feels like it . As one source put it, “Simon is a shrewd businessman who knew Britney could make his show and he was willing to give her just about anything.” Guess so. And hey, look at us talking about The X Factor in May! Yesterday, Britney walked off the set during the very first taping, leaving behind an empty judge’s chair while four contestants did their thing. Sources connected with the production say Britney was “overwhelmed” and left. She sort of denied this on Twitter, but would anyone be surprised? People who were at the taping claim she was upset by the audience reacting negatively to some of her comments, then abruptly peaced out. Howard Stern’s right. This could be a train wreck . But highly-rated! [Photo: WENN.com]

Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to Join The X Factor, Fox Confirms at Upfronts

Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will join L.A. Reid and Simon Cowell as judges on The X Factor , Fox confirmed at its upfront presentation this afternoon. Spears, one of the most successful and celebrated artists in pop music history, gives the show A-list star power as it gears up for its sophomore season. Lovato is no slouch herself, having become an accomplished singer and actress with a devoted and engaged young fan base. Not bad for the age of 19. “I’m absolutely delighted that Britney and Demi are joining us,” said Cowell, who removed Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger at the end of last season. “Britney Spears remains one of the biggest stars in the world, she’s talented, fascinating – and I believe she knows exactly how to spot The X Factor.” “Demi’s had an amazing career in music, TV and film for someone her age. She’s young, confident, and enthusiastic,” he added of his other panelist. “It’s important that she speaks to our younger audience. The new panel will be dynamic and will work really well with the changes to the show.” Spears joining The X Factor has basically been a done deal for weeks now, added,

Stacy Keibler to Join The X Factor?

If Simon Cowell is going for looks over talent, he’s on the right track. With Britney Spears negotiations reportedly still ongoing, sources now say The X Factor is considering Stacy Keibler for a role on its upcoming second season. In what capacity? It’s unclear, although co-host seems most likely. An insider cites Keibler’s “lack of experience in the music business” as a drawback for making this former WWE Diva a judge, but adds that the beauty “looks fantastic and has bags of charisma.” Would this be enough to cast her as emcee? She would seemingly fit Cowell’s criteria, as Simon told reporters a couple weeks ago: “I always wanted a boy and a girl to host the show. And I like hosts who don’t kind of have a hosting background… it’s a different kind of dynamic.” Darren Criss of Glee was supposedly offered the hosting gig earlier this month but could not fit it into his schedule. Janet Jackson Turns Down The X Factor

She’s flattered, but she’s out of the running. Janet Jackson has put the rumors – which she sort of encouraged initially by hemming and hawing during an interview with Anderson Cooper – of her involvement with The X Factor to rest. In a statement, Janet says she’s “very flattered that X Factor let me know I was being considered for next season, but it just wouldn’t be possible.” Why not? What’s on tap for the artist? She is committed to her Number Ones Up Close and Personal Tour and will be starring in an upcoming Tyler Perry movie. Does this mean The X Factor will seriously consider Britney Spears as a judge ? Let’s hope so! [Photo: WENN.com]

Britney Spears: Pushing for X Factor Judging Gig?

She can’t exactly carry a tune, and she’s never been known for her quick wit or intelligence… but her songs are sure catchy. And is there any doubt she’s rake in the ratings? According to Us Weekly , Britney Spears has reached out to Simon Cowell and The X Factor producers in order to campaign for spot on the season two judging table. If Britney’s name is really in the mix, it would be included with other famous ones such as Beyonce, Pink, Fergie, and perhaps the most likely candidate, Janet Jackson . Janet Jackson to Join The X Factor?

I’m not a judge on The X Factor. You’re not currently a judge on The X Factor. No, I am not. But that’s all I really think I should say. And, with that exchange between Anderson Cooper and Janet Jackson yesterday, the singer made it sound very much like she’ll be a panelist on season two of Simon Cowell’s singing competition. Over the last couple weeks, a variety of names have been bantered about for the judging gig, from Beyonce to Mariah Carey to Kelly Rowland. But Janet appears to be the most likely possiiblity yet. Do you think Janet Jackson would make a good X Factor judge?

Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger: Also Out of The X Factor!

Simon Cowell was not kidding about major changes coming to The X Factor . With Steve Jones officially out as host – the Brit Tweeted the news himself – new reports indicate that neither Paula Abdul nor Nicole Scherzinger will return for season two. “At this point, the only ones staying are Simon and L.A. Reid,” an insider tells E! News. “Simon wants to take the show in a different direction.” We can only hope that direction involves fewer contrived fights between judges and more of a focus on the singers themselves. Producer Nigel Lythgoe was apparently taken aback by this development, Tweeting late last night: “Shocked to see Simon has fired Paula Abdul, Nicole and Steve from the X-Factor.” The X Factor was far from a ratings disaster for Fox, averaging over 12 million viewers per week and regularly winning its time slot in the key demographic of 18-49-year olds. But Cowell had predicted 20 million households and instant competition for American Idol from the outset, lofty standards that he never came close to meeting. Who might Cowell now recruit to help him compete with the other Fox singing juggernaut? Mariah Carey has been a rumored replacement for weeks and would certainly brings attention to the competition.
