Jay Sean’s Pitbull Collabo The ‘Epitome’ Of Feel-Good Summer Tracks

‘I think sometimes certain voices and certain vibes and certain styles just work together,’ Sean says of ‘I’m All Yours’ collabo. By Jocelyn Vena Jay Sean Photo: MTV News For Jay Sean ‘s lead single, “I’m All Yours,” off his forthcoming album Worth It All, there was only one guy who could capture the track’s bounce and party vibe. That guy is Miami-bred rhymer Pitbull , who brings his signature sense of gruffy swagger to the song. “Well, you know, people who know my music, especially when I first came over to America, one of the first things that people noticed with my songs is I like to do feel-good songs. And when it comes to the singles, that’s what I like to give them. And ‘I’m All Yours’ is really the epitome of all that,” Sean explained to MTV News about the dance track. Full of pounding beats and bleeps, the song is about falling for a girl who makes all the partying and fun even better. “It’s taking the modern movement of dance, which has obviously taken over the whole world, but I’m not putting it in the nightclub environment,” he continued. “So it’s still got that element of romance, which is what I like to bring to music. So it’s high-energy and romantic. And the Pitbull collaboration actually happened in Australia, where we were on tour together, and you know, we’re all fans of each other. We got talking, like, ‘Man, we should do something.’ So we laid it out right there and then.” What emerged from their friendship is a song tailor-made for both Sean and Pit. The track is fun, summery and a definite dance-floor anthem, three qualities these two guys know a lot about given their individual music histories. “I think the thing is, you got someone like Pit and myself, we share similar fanbases, but also, as I said, it’s that high-energy music that really blends well together,” he said. “And I think sometimes certain voices and certain vibes and certain styles just work together on a record, so it was just nice the way it came out.” Related Artists Jay Sean Pitbull

Robert Downey Jr. Talks Jon Favreau’s Departure From ‘Iron Man 3’

Downey says shooting the next ‘Iron Man’ installment without the director will be ‘weird.’ By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Downey Jr. Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images After director Jon Favreau departed the “Iron Man” franchise but before Shane Black (“Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”) became the front-runner to helm the third installment of the superhero-movie series, MTV News sat down with Robert Downey Jr. and asked the actor how it would feel to play Tony Stark without Favreau behind the camera. “It is weird. I think there’s always a closure to everything,” he said, adding, “This will all come to an end one day, and I think the thing is to just really enjoy it while you have it.” No bad blood exists between the two men and, as Downey told us, he remains friendly with Favreau and is looking forward to his next directorial effort. “He’s up to great stuff with ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ coming up,” the actor said. “I just spoke with him a few weeks ago and we were quite friendly.” Before Downey begins “Iron Man 3,” which isn’t due in theaters until May 2013, he’ll be joining the highly anticipated superhero all-star flick, “The Avengers.” The picture will bring Downey’s metal-suited Stark together with the likes of Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. “The Avengers” will begin filming later this year, after Downey finishes work on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” which he was shooting when we caught up with him in January. Ever the jokester, Downey said he won’t have to do much preparation to make “Avengers” a winner. “You grow a moustache and maybe do something with the hair. That’s how easy it is,” he laughed. “It’s going to be great, once I tell them what to do.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

Britney Spears Vs. Lady Gaga: Which Diva Will Rule 2011?

Gaga’s Born This Way and Spears’ new album both coming early in year. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga and Britney Spears Photo: Getty Images In 2010, Lady Gaga battled Taylor Swift for female pop domination, but in 2011, Gaga is going up against none other than career pop star Britney Spears. It should be a truly epic battle of the blondes, and it’s made even more interesting because the two not only share sonic similarities, but also have very similar fanbases of loyal devotees waiting to hear new notes from the chart-topping lasses. In 2008, both Gaga and Spears released new music (Gaga with The Fame and Britney with Circus ), and the ladies each released compilation albums in 2009 (Gaga’s The Fame Monster and Britney’s second greatest-hits collection, The Singles Collection ), but never have their releases really come face to face as they will this year. Gaga is set to release her single in February, with her full album, Born This Way , to follow sometime after. Meanwhile, Britney will have her first single out very early in 2011, with the album set for release in March . So, which bombshell will rise to the top of the heap? MTV News asked music critics to weigh in. “I think the thing about Gaga is: Her persona is really experimental, but her music isn’t, and I think she’s gonna have to really come out with some different stuff to make it more interesting,” writer Julianne Escobedo-Shepherd proposed. “I think her fanbase is so solid that she’ll be fine no matter what she does.” New York Times writer Jon Caramanica noted that no one can guess what Gaga has up her sleeve for her next album, but it will be interesting. “I see Gaga changing every six months,” he said. “I think she’s trying new ideas. Maybe they’re not all hits or they’re not all successful, but I think she’s trying new things, so if you look at how Gaga’s going to evolve, I don’t think we can say where Gaga’s gonna land,” he explained, “but I think we can say reliably it’s going to be really interesting.” How does a vet like Britney compete with a newbie? Escobedo-Shepherd explained that Spears is actually in a great place to do it. “She’s got a blank slate right now,” she said. “People don’t know what to expect from her. I think the fact that maybe she’s being more experimental shows that she feels freer a little bit, and I think it’s going to show in the music,” she predicted. “In the music sphere, I think that Britney’s gonna win, but Gaga’s so on top you can’t top her, even if you’re Britney.” RapRadar.com’s Elliot Wilson noted that right now, “It’s Gaga’s game to lose,” and Complex ‘s Noah Callahan said Spears’ vet status could work in her favor. “The thing with Britney Spears that makes it work for her is that she’s been around for so long that people are invested in her narrative, and even when the records are so-so, they still have the desire to see her succeed as an individual,” he said. “I don’t really know what to expect from Lady Gaga in 2011. I do know that she will definitely throw us a curveball and do something that is unexpected.” Do you expect Gaga or Britney to rule 2011? Give us your prediction in the comments below! Hanson Have Some Advice For Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus

‘If you don’t define who you are … then that can take away from everything you do in the future,’ Zac Hanson tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Hanson Photo: MTV News In the ’90s, boy bands like ‘NSYNC and Backstreet Boys and pop princesses like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera ruled the charts. Hanson have managed to maintain a career long past that era and their breakout single, “MMMBop”; just last week, they released the new album Shout It Out. So do Hanson have any sage advice for the latest crop of pop stars, including Justin Bieber, the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus? “I think the thing about all those artists is, the idea of defining who you really want to be and being that,” Zac Hanson told MTV News on Wednesday, just a day after their canceled show with Drake in New York. “In a lot of these cases, this whole idea of movies and music and TV shows and multimedia whatever, that’s great, but it can also be very confusing,” he continued. “And also, for your audience, if you don’t define who you are or what you represent pretty quickly, then that can take away from everything you do in the future and cheapen any real art or any real thing you want to say.” Taylor Hanson agreed with his little brother’s advice, adding, “Really for anybody, regardless of whether you start young or do pop or rock, surviving in the business of entertainment is difficult. I mean, 90 percent of people don’t succeed. You just have to identify what it is you do and know that you’re always going to be the one who cares the most.” That means you should trust yourself over label execs, the brothers say. “Record labels, producers, TV writers, the whole nine yards, they can go onto another projects, but it’s your life, it’s your name,” Isaac Hanson said. “So in 15 years from now, 20 years from now, it’s going to be on your record.” What do you think of Hanson’s advice for the pop up-and-comers? Donald Trump Dreamed Of Playing In The Majors, On ‘When I Was 17’

‘I was captain of the baseball team,’ the ‘Apprentice’ boss says on Saturday’s episode. By MTV News staff Donald Trump On “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News So far this season on MTV’s “When I Was 17,” we’ve learned about Drake’s awful “neck afro,” and how Kevin Jonas attempted to tame his own unfortunate ‘fro with a flatiron. On this Saturday’s episode, Donald Trump — the real-estate mogul instantly recognizable by his signature ‘do — takes us back to his teenage years, though viewers will have to tune in to find out whether he opens up about that famous mane. We do discover, however, that the future “Apprentice” boss was a sports-obsessed teen growing up in the 1960s. “When I was 17, I loved sports,” Trump says on the new episode, airing at 11 a.m. on MTV. “I was always a good athlete. I played football, baseball, soccer. I wrestled. I think the thing I liked the best was baseball.” The New York City native attended an upstate military school, where he dreamed of going pro. Alas, Trump didn’t have the skills to make it in the big leagues, but things seem to have turned out well for the guy, no? “I was captain of the baseball team,” Trump explained. “I was supposed to be a professional baseball player. Fortunately, I decided to go into real estate instead. I played first base and I also played catcher. I was a good hitter. I just had a good time.” With his days on the baseball diamond behind him, Trump is happy to spend time on his country club links. “Now I play golf,” he said with a smile. “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Donald Trump, Nick Cannon and Aubrey O’Day — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. Alice In Chains Say ‘There Are Thoughts’ Of A New Album

‘I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t [happen],’ Jerry Cantrell says of heading back into the studio. By Brian Jacks Alice in Chains’ William DuVall and Jerry Cantrell Photo: MTV News The death of Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley in 2002 should have, by any reasonable expectation, ended the career of the platinum-selling rock act. But after an eight-year grieving period and the addition of a new singer, the group is back stronger than ever, with two consecutive singles landing at #1 on the Billboard Rock Songs chart. And nobody’s more pleasantly surprised than guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell. “I took my clothes off and ran down the street screaming at the top of my lungs,” the songsmith joked to MTV News. “It’s cool that we have something to say and there’s somebody out there listening.” For newcomer William DuVall, replacing the enigmatic Staley has been a challenging journey as he’s worked to gain acceptance from a skeptical fanbase. But if three years of sold-out shows are any indication, Duvall has surmounted any audience hesitation, and the singer is now experiencing life in the circle of a chart-topping group. “We toured for two years before we even went into the studio, so that was interesting in itself,” DuVall said. “But now this thing has become more real to us and everybody else, and it’s just another important step in the journey. So yeah, I feel a lot of acceptance and it’s ever-evolving.” The band is currently touring in support of Black Gives Way to Blue, their first new album with DuVall. The record, which spawned no less than two hits, has been certified gold, but the group isn’t resting on their laurels. In fact, all indications are that fans of Alice in Chains may be picking up a second effort in the foreseeable future. “There are thoughts,” Cantrell said of heading back into the studio. “We’ll see how far we get. Staying in the moment is a good way to live and we certainly hope that that happens. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t [happen].” Alice in Chains’ U.S. tour continues through June, before the group heads overseas this summer. But the rock act isn’t the only band from the ’90s hitting the road — this year brings news that fellow Seattle mainstays Soundgarden are also reuniting. With Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam also on tour and the Foo Fighters back in the studio, is alternative rock coming back? “I don’t think it ever left,” Cantrell said. “Yeah, there’s a lot of activity from bands that were slugging it out in the ’90s, us being one of them. But I think the thing that gets forgotten is all those guys were doing music all along. … It’s not like anyone quit doing stuff and we just thought, ‘Hey, it’s a good time to start doing it again.’ We just continued to make music. But it’s kind of nice because I love all those bands.” Cantrell doesn’t have any specific advice for Chris Cornell and company, but he did have one statement to make on the Soundgarden reunion. “I’ll buy a ticket. I want to see that.” Are you looking forward to seeing Alice in Chains on tour? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Alice in Chains
