Lost’s Jorge Garcia on His Big Episode and the ‘Heavy’ Moment Yet to Come

When Lost began, Jorge Garcia’s Hurley was mainly used as comic relief, though he’s since shown himself to be capable of much more during the show’s six seasons. Fortunately for Garcia, he got to flex all of those acquired muscles last night in the show’s final, Hurley-centric installment. As he prepares to say goodbye to the series forever, the 36-year-old actor rang up Movieline to discuss last night’s episode, the machinations involved in getting guest star Cynthia Watros to return, and the difficult moments yet to come.

Controversial Shrek Fashion Shoot Replaces Dated Pop Culture References with Naked Models

So this happened! Perhaps you’ve heard of the magazine VMan , an arty, marketed-to-men version of the fashion bible V ? As far as avant-garde American periodicals go, it’s a good one — or at least it used to be, when it would give up dozens of pages to James Franco and his collaborator Carter to use as an art project. Lately, VMan has been trending in a weird direction (a signed Nick Jonas cover, really?) and it’s all come to a head with this bizarre Shrek Forever After photoshoot.

3 Helpful Tips to Keep the V Resistance From Self-Destructing

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from V (other than the fact that retroactive continuity really can exist after just six episodes) it’s that if aliens showed up tomorrow dolling out free health care, humans would put up an embarrassingly ill-conceived resistance. In last night’s episode, Erica and Co. spent the whole hour tracking down the fabled Fifth Column leader John May (Oh hey, Michael Trucco!) so she and Ryan could communicate with the Visitor ship, only to find out John May doesn’t live after all. Lisa drives a wedge even further between Tyler and Erica when she tells him his dad isn’t really his dad, and Chad Decker continues to compromise his journalistic integrity. But week after week, it’s the bumbling resistance that disappoints me most of all. After the jump, find out how our heroes could have worked just a little bit harder to save all our human skins.

United States of Tara Smackdown: When Your Therapist Is Also Your Alter

On last week’s episode of the United States of Tara , the Gregsons literally went up against Tara and one of her alters in the ring — well, rink. The family was enjoying some afternoon ice skating, the DJ had just started playing “Get Down On It” and then Buck’s spurned lover, Pammy, had to ruin the day by jumping into the rink and declaring her love for Tara’s Vietnam vet alter. Let’s see which of Tara’s family members and alters fought back — and which just had angry make-up sex in the backyard — in last night’s episode, “You Becoming You.”

Every Star Wars Geek on Earth to Appear in Stitched-Together Remake

The event has been coming for a while, and now it appears April 19 is officially D-Day for the fan-generated Star Wars Uncut . The project solicited 15-second clips from 472 amateur filmmakers around the Web, finally tying the pieces together in a kind of patchwork remake of George Lucas’s original classic. No CGI Jabba the Hutt inserts, no revised battle scenes, no generally Lucasian BS — just Lego Obi-Wan cut down by his archnemesis Lego Darth Vader, grown men in casual Wookiee wear, abstract cutaways of dogs, incompetent green-screen deployment, creatively used ladders and so, so much more. I call dibs on the frozen Han Solo sequence in the inevitable Empire Strikes Back Uncut sequel. Click through for the video.

Is Sam Worthington Weathering Some Post-Avatar Bad Luck?

First things first: most up-and-coming actors would kill for Sam Worthington’s career. After receiving James Cameron’s imprimatur via the lead role in Avatar , Worthington was cast to topline two additional tentpoles — Terminator Salvation and Clash of the Titans — before Cameron’s blue movie had even come out. Not bad, right? No, but it could be better. The four films Worthington has made since Avatar have all been tumultuous productions, and two of them may not even come out in theaters. You know things are bad when a James Cameron shoot is your least trouble-plagued production in the last three years. Here’s the rundown of Worthington’s bad luck:

Exclusive Book Excerpt: Mark Lisanti on Jersey Shore’s ‘New Guido Credo’

[ In this exclusive excerpt from the new book Reality Matters: 19 Writers Come Clean About the Shows We Can’t Stop Watching (HarperCollins, Apr. 13), Movieline editor at large Mark Lisanti measures himself against Jersey Shore ‘s three-word Guido gold standard — with less-than-optimal results. — STV ] About five minutes into Jersey Shore ‘s (two-hour!) premiere, Italian-American groups began to express their displeasure about the cast’s embrace — nay exultation — of the term “Guido,” considered by many to be a slur, as well as MTV’ s alleged exploitation of the group by reducing all Italians to an easily mockable Goombah stereotype. It’s a complaint Italians have heard before, most recently after some people wrongheadedly decried The Sopranos , perhaps the greatest and most nuanced television show of all time, for depicting the culture as nothing but a bunch of tracksuited, pork-store-haunting, stoolie-whacking goons. As an Italian American who grew up in a New York suburb just north of the Bronx, among friends (if not family) who were recognizable, if distant, forebears of The Shore gang (in those days, it was B.U.M. Equipment instead of Ed Hardy), Pauly D’s celebratory explanation of Guidoness as “a lifestyle… being Italian… tanning, gel, everything,” was not just the last word on a minor controversy. it was an invitation to take an inventory of my inner Guido every Thursday night.
