Pop singer Ke$ha is the guest-performer on Saturday Night Live this week with host Ryan Phillippe, and after last week’s satisfactory comic performance from Justin Bieber, Ke$ha has formulated some sketch ideas of her own. “One idea was someone recently told me I smell like shrimp in a diaper,” Ke$ha told MTV. “So I thought I could do a perfume skit about me with my eau de perfume being a shrimp in a diaper. It’s very sensual.” We have the next &ucille B@ll on our hands. [ MTV ]

5 Miramax Films the Weinsteins Can Remake To Get Out of Hock

By now you’ve heard the feel good story of the week — hey, it was a slow week — that Harvey and Bob Weinstein are thisclose to buying back their beloved Miramax from Disney for the not-so-cheap price of $600 million. Disney has denied this , but were the sale to go through it would bring up at least one question: How the hell do the Weinstein Brothers — the same Weinstein Brothers who barely had enough money to release Youth in Revolt into theaters — plan to pay back their fellow investors (lead by billionaire financier Ron Burkle), who presumably footed a lot of this bill? One word: Remakes! Here now are the five films from the Miramax library that the Weinsteins should seriously consider revisiting.

REVIEW: Can The Joneses Keep Up with Its Own Premise?

A fantastic concept that frays under the rigors of narrative convention, the premise of The Joneses — a pre-fab family unit is hired to infiltrate and market to an affluent suburban neighborhood — sold half of Hollywood, attracting bucks and talent to the table. Yet as pointed out by David Foster Wallace, the man who envisioned entire calendar years being branded (“The Year of the Perdue Wonder Chicken” will never stop making me laugh), the obviousness of the target requires a more expansive execution: “We already ‘know’ U.S. culture is materialistic,” he said. “This diagnosis can be done in about two lines. [The] engaging and artistically real [question is] how is it that we as human beings still have the capacity for joy, charity, genuine connections, for stuff that doesn’t have a price?” First-time writer/director Derrick Borte does make a bleakly viable case for an extreme strain of our materialism, but the film’s attempt at a humanistic antidote diffuses its intriguing chemistry for the worse.

Madonna Has a Crush on Schu

The Material Girl is speaking out about Glee in anticipation of next week’s “Power of Madonna” episode, though she’s not really commenting on the show itself (or even Jane Lynch’s frame-by-frame copy of her iconic “Vogue” video) as much as she’s publicizing her affection for the show’s sole white-man rapper: “I think Mr. Schuester is very cute. I’m glad he’s doing such a good job empowering all the girls.” Translation: “Matthew Morrison, if you play your cards right, you can be my next Vanilla Ice.” [ Billboard ]

Moment of Truth: Banksy is Selling, But Are You Buying?

Welcome back to Moment of Truth, Movieline’s weekly spotlight on the best in nonfiction cinema. This week, we hear from John Sloss, the veteran sales agent-turned-rookie distributor of Banksy’s directing debut Exit Through the Gift Shop. It opens Friday in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Leave it to mischievous street-art godhead Banksy to completely overturn cinema with his first foray into feature filmmaking, Exit Through the Gift Shop . More specifically, leave it to Banksy to permute the documentary genre with expert zeal, turning a film ostensibly about him into a film about its original director. It sounds both more and less complicated than it really is when you think about it — a testament to the shadowy artist’s dexterity with narrative and character. But what about his dexterity with facts?
