Things have turned personal between Ryan Murphy and Kings of Leon. First, the Glee creator lashed out at the band for rejecting his show’s request to use its songs for an episode. Murphy cursed the group off, which prompted a quizzical response from its lead singer, asking why Murphy was so angry. The “Beastly” star is taking over the role as the clothing company’s celebrity model two years after Brit hooked up with them. “So fun being a Candie’s Girl!” Spears wrote on her Twitter . “Look out for the @Candiesbrand pics of their new girl, Vanessa Hudgens!” It seems the tweet didn’t go unnoticed by Hudgens, who gracefully responded to the pop star’s props with a message on Candie’s official Twitter page . “Thnx, @BritneySpears, you’re a tough act to follow,” the “High School Musical” actress wrote. “But, I’m so excited to be the new Candie’s girl for 2011!! — xo, Vanessa.” The company also trumpeted Spears’ tweet about its new spokesperson. “Britney Spears just made a huge Candie’s announcement on her Twitter page!” reads a post on the brand’s Facebook page . “We’re so excited to welcome Vanessa Hudgens to the Candie’s team as our 2011 Candie’s girl!” In a video posted on Facebook , Hudgens takes fans behind the scenes on her Candie’s photo shoot. Rocking floral dresses, ruffled bikinis and various accessories, the Boho chic actress glammed it up for the brand. “Ever since I saw Fergie do the ads for Candie’s I fell in love,” she says in the promo clip. “It’s such an honor to be a Candie’s girl now. I was so excited to see the range of the Candie’s products.” Hudgens joins a long list of starlets who have worked with the company that, in addition to Britney and Fergie, includes Hayden Panettiere, Ashlee Simpson, Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Jenny McCarthy, Vanessa Carlton, Alyssa Milano and Ashanti. Billy Brasfield takes to his Twitter account to heap praise on Gaga’s upcoming clip. We’re talking, of course, about Lady Gaga’s hotly anticipated “Born This Way” video , which she apparently shot this past weekend, and, according to her makeup artist Billy Brasfield, it’s the kind of thing that defies explanation. And adjectives. (Though that didn’t stop him from heaping ’em on.) In fact, the “BTW” video is apparently so awe-inducing that it brought Brasfield to tears. “Have you ever been a part of something that was so profound, so inspiring, so incredibly beautiful, that as it was happening, it brought tears to your eyes and you had been given a gift, and you were thankful?” he tweeted on Monday. “It happened to me [and] I am thankful. 1/22, 1/23, 1/24- 2011 LADY GAGA–#BORNTHISWAY.” Brasfield then followed that message up with another tweet Tuesday morning (January 25), in which he continued to pile praise on the “Born This Way” clip. “After days of sensory overload, of amazing song, ridiculously beautiful imagery, fashion, beautiful People, great friends, and a life changing experience, I am awake again after 24 hours of sleep,” he wrote. “Hello New York City and snow.” Of course, Brasfield isn’t the only member of Gaga’s team hyping the “Born This Way” video these days. On Monday, LG’s fashion director (and Thierry Mugler creative director) Nicola Formichetti took to his Twitter account to praise the shoot, writing, “Ok kids, get ready for [‘Born This Way’]. MTV News takes the self-proclaimed ‘Based God’ on a date in Chinatown. By Rya Backer Lil B Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — If you aren’t among the more than 120,000 Twitter followers of Lil B “The Based God” or the many fans of his freestyles, or the regulars on Dior Paint (a Tumblr site supposedly run by his stylist), you probably would have been a little confused by all the cooking going on at B’s show earlier this month at Manhattan’s Highline Ballroom. But after watching the many “chefs” doing B’s signature dance, which literally involves miming the act of cooking, you’d probably also want to know a little more about the unusual rapper, whom we named a Mixtape Daily Fire Starter last year. That’s why MTV News met up with B for a First Date at Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown. Between dumplings and fried rice, the Berkeley, California MC, who released Angels Exodus last week, talked all about his Twitter, his recent success and his unique subgenre of music. “Based music really is just doing what you feel, really letting the beats sink into you and letting the lyrics coat the beat,” he explained. “It’s really just about being yourself, though, and being positive. Doing what you want to do.” One thing that sets him apart is the Internet: B has over 150 MySpace pages, each one featuring unique tracks, and legions of aforementioned Twitter disciples who choose to show their devotion in rather interesting ways. “A lot of guys show me love and want me to date their women,” he said of his online fans. “It’s an honor. And I will use that gift and their trust and I will do the right thing.” In return for such loyalty, he’s given out about a dozen free mixtapes (including Rain in England, which he touts as hip-hop’s first ambient mixtape), and he just as freely provides new songs as soon as they’ve been finished, often promising that they’re “#rare.” With gigs like the Coachella Music and Arts Festival on the horizon, and more new music promised, 2011 may be the year that we’ll all be thanking Based God.
