Throwback Lovin: Arsenio Hall Is “Determined To Make It Work” With Paula Abdul 24 Years Later…

Arsenio Hall And Paula Abdul Rekindle Romance 24 Years Later Some super throwback swirl… AGAIN! Looks like Arsenio Hall is back trying to get into Paula Abdul’s drawls … Via National Enquirer: The two, who first dated back in 1989 and have reunited a few times since then, were spotted getting cozy at a Los Angeles Dodgers game on May 1. Now, sources say they’re both ready to pick up where they last left off. “Arsenio adores Paula and is determined to make their relationship work this time,” said a source. “She’s like his good luck charm, and when Paula’s in his life, great things happen for Arsenio.” During an interview in 2009, Arsenio raved about the former “American Idol” and “X Factor” judge. Arsenio, 58, called 50-year-old Paula the “best girl to hang with on the planet,” adding: “I was madly in love with her…That’s my girl to death and I’m always there for her.” As The ENQUIRER reported in 2011, Arsenio – who hosted a late-night talk show from 1989 to 1994 – decided to make a TV comeback because Paula convinced him it was the right time, and that she could pull some strings to help. “Arsenio was afraid people had forgotten him, but Paula said a whole new generation was waiting for his humor,” an insider told The ENQUIRER. The bouncy “Straight Up” singer put word out to her network exec pals, and now Arsenio’s new syndicated show will debut Sept. 9. But while Arsenio got busy with the gabfest, Paula spent last year getting close to hunky Rhode Island businessman John Caprio, 41. “But the romance fizzled and now it appears she’s moved on…back to Arsenio, who’s always held a torch for her.” How precious. Happy 50th Birthday, Paula Abdul!

Paula Abdul is yet to figure out her next professional move. But the former American Idol judge and X Factor panelist is headed into a different decade personally: she turns 50 years old today! A startling fact for those of us who grew up on “Opposites Attract” and now feel ancient ourselves, the singer/dancer has made a career out of being zany for the past few years. But the act finally wore thin after just one season on The X Factor , when good friend/producer/constant flirt Simon Cowell was forced to let Paula go. We hope she lands somewhere successful. What do you think Abdul should do next ? Send your best birthday wishes to Abdul now and also to the following celebrities: Zoe Saldana (34), Salman Rushdie (65) and Blaise Pascal (posthumous).

Paula Abdul Speaks Out About ‘X Factor’ Exit

Abdul confirms news in statement and says ‘business decisions often times override personal considerations.’ By Kara Warner Paula Abdul Photo: Mark Davis/ Gety Images We’ve only had a few hours to digest the three very surprising exits from “X Factor” that were announced Monday, and we’re still scratching our heads at what happened over at Fox to make such drastic changes to the singing competition . For many fans, the biggest shock was Simon Cowell and company’s letting go of original “American Idol” diva and delightfully unpredictable judge Paula Abdul, who has since released a statement about her departure. “Yes, it’s true; I won’t be returning to The X Factor next season,” Abdul said in a statement. “I’ve learned through my longevity in this industry that business decisions often times override personal considerations. Simon and I, along with Fox and Fremantle, have been communicating about this for a while now, and I have absolute understanding of the situation. Simon is, and will remain a dear friend of mine and I’ve treasured my experience working this past season with my extended family at Fox and Fremantle. I want nothing more than for The X Factor to exceed ALL of their wildest dreams. This truly has been a blessing and I am most grateful.” Although they have not released official statements as of yet, we expect to hear from the other two ousted “X Factor” folks, Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones , sometime soon. The former Pussycat Doll and “Dancing With the Stars” champ will reportedly turn her attention back to her music career, while Abdul and Jones will be looking for their next big things. As far as we know, L.A. Reid will continue to work alongside Cowell on the judging panel. There has been no word yet from Fox on who might replace Abdul, Scherzinger and Jones, or when season two will premiere. What do you think Paula Abdul should do after “X Factor”? Fellow mentor Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones are also out; a source tells Deadline ‘none of the three left on their own accord.’ By Kara Warner Paula Abdul Photo: Mark Davis/ Gety Images For any “X Factor” fans who are thinking season two of the Simon Cowell-created singing competition will be business as usual, think again, because Monday (January 30) marked a veritable bloodletting of the show’s key talent and judging panel. In addition to the losses of mentor Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones , original “American Idol” diva and delightfully unpredictable judge Paula Abdul will also not be returning to the program. A source close to Cowell told Deadline.com that all three personalities were asked to leave the show. “None of the three left on their own accord,” Deadline editor Nikki Finke wrote of what her insider source told her of the mass exodus. “It was cleaning house day at the so-so rated show.” Despite their frequent onscreen bickering and banter, Cowell spoke highly of Abdul when it was announced that she would be joining him on “X Factor.” “I missed her the second she left [‘Idol’],” Cowell told Deadline last year. “Always loved working with her even though she can be a pain. I don’t know what it is about her, but I’ve always clicked with her. You just have to get that chemistry, and she’s right. I’ve never found anyone better than her.” Former Pussycat Doll and “Dancing With the Stars” champ Scherzinger was also sent packing, although a source close to Scherzinger told E! News that she left the show to focus on her music career. “She’s spoken to Simon [Cowell], and he’s given her his blessing,” the insider told E! Scherzinger often became emotional during elimination episodes, shedding tears and expressing sympathy for ousted contestants. As for inaugural “X Factor” host Jones, the cheeky Welshman broke the news himself via Twitter on Monday. “I won’t be hosting next seasons X Factor which is a shame but I cant complain as I’ve had a great time,” Jones tweeted to his more than 94,000 followers. “Good luck to everyone on the show.” Jones had decidedly big shoes to fill stepping into the gig, with comparisons instantly made to “American Idol” host/ media mogul Ryan Seacrest. Throughout the season, the reviews of Jones’ hosting skills were decidedly mixed. As far as we know, L.A. Reid will continue to work alongside Cowell on the judging panel. There has been no word yet from Fox on who might replace Abdul, Scherzinger and Jones, or when season two will premiere. Who do you think should join “X Factor”? Share your ideas in the comments! ‘X Factor’ Says Goodbye To Stereo Hogzz

For the second straight week, Paula Abdul’s groups end up in the bottom two, with Lakoda Rayne joining the Hogzz. By Adam Graham Stereo Hogzz on “X Factor” Photo: FOX Paula Abdul’s groups just can’t catch a break. On Thursday’s (November 10) results episode of “The X Factor,” Abdul’s two remaining groups in the competition — Stereo Hogzz and Lakoda Rayne — ended up as the bottom two vote-getters following Wednesday’s performance episode. Both groups were forced to sing for their lives in front of the panel of judges, and after a dramatic 3-1 vote — where an emotional Abdul nearly gave up her right to vote — Stereo Hogzz were shown the door. It was the second week in a row that two of Abdul’s groups occupied the bottom two and faced elimination. Ms. “Forever Your Girl” originally refused to participate in the final vote, pleading, “I’m not gonna do this. I’m too close to both acts, and I love them both,” causing a frustrated Cowell to none-too-subtly rub his eye with his middle finger. Eventually, Abdul cast her vote for Lakoda Rayne to go, leaving the final vote in the hands of Cowell, who sent the Hogzz packing. The Houston fivesome took their elimination in stride, saying they were blessed for the chance to be on the show. Abdul returned the compliment: “I’m blessed to have worked with such amazing talent,” she said. “These guys are the real deal and gentlemen to work with.” For their final save performance, Stereo Hogzz — who were also in the bottom two last week — sang Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone,” while Lakoda Rayne turned in a slightly twangy version of the Chris Brown/ Jordin Sparks duet “No Air.” The night prior, Rayne earned high marks for their version of Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You,” while Simon Cowell criticized the Hogzz following their gender-flipped version of Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” for being too “cabaret” and for not doing the sort of song they would make in the studio. Earlier in the show, host Steve Jones asked Abdul what it was like to again have two of her groups staring down death’s door. “It is a nightmare situation. I can’t say any other words,” Abdul said. But in typical sunshiny fashion, she had words of encouragement for her students: “They’re magical, and they’re going to go on to sell records no matter what.” The upside for Abdul? Since she only has one group left, next week she can’t be the only judge with contestants in the bottom two. The episode also saw performances from Willow Smith , who debuted her new single “Fireball,” and Jessie J , who showcased her latest single “Domino.” At the top of the show, the top 11 contestants performed Swedish House Mafia’s “Save the World (Tonight).” What did you think of Thursday’s “X Factor” results episode? ‘X Factor’: Melanie Amaro Stands Out As Five Go Home

First live episode whittles pool down to 12 finalists. By Adam Graham Melanie Amaro performs on ‘X Factor’ Photo: FOX Five contestants were shown the door on Tuesday’s “X Factor,” the first live episode of the singing competition. Among those sent away during the two-and-a-half-hour episode was Dexter Haygood, the formerly homeless contestant who once lived on L.A.’s Skid Row. Haygood — described early on as the “funky phenomenon” by his mentor Nicole Scherzinger — said he was “kinda confused” by the dismissal, which followed his bizarro-world mash-up of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl,” though he then said he didn’t know why he was confused. “Right now I’m in the boggle zone, which is the 21st century twilight zone,” Haygood explained. Also sent packing during the episode were 20-year-old Tiah Tolliver, a favorite of Simon Cowell’s who was never liked by the other judges; 22-year-old Simone Battle, who plugged her upcoming music video even as she was being given the boot; crooner Phillip Lomax, the 22-year-old who was saddled with singing the outside-of-his-comfort-zone “I’m a Believer” on the episode by his mentor L.A. Reid; and brother duo the Brewer Boys, who apologized to their mentor Paula Abdul (older brother Justin referred to her as “Ms. Paula”) for letting her down in their performance. That left 12 finalists who will go on in the competition:

Paula Abdul’s ‘Live To Dance’ Premiere Showcases Multiple Generations

Kids and seniors steal the show, as new CBS talent competition kicks off. By Kara Warner Jalen performs on “Live To Dance” on Tuesday Photo: CBS Nearly a year and a half since she left her post on the “American Idol” judges’ panel, Paula Abdul returned to television on Tuesday night with her reality dance competition, “Live to Dance.” The choreographer-turned-pop-star was joined by former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and longtime Michael Jackson choreographer Travis Payne on the new panel for the CBS show that takes from the playbook of other talent competitions like “Idol,” “America’s Got Talent” and “So You Think You Can Dance.” “Live to Dance” begins with a large pool of contestants competing for a $500,000 price. They are to be narrowed down by the judges and then voted on by the American public. There is also a plucky Australian host, Andrew Gunsberg, who seems to be channeling a mix of “SYTYCD” host Cat Deeley and “Idol” superstar Ryan Seacrest. Tuesday’s two-hour premiere kicked off with audition rounds in Los Angeles and New York where the judges watched hopefuls of all ages, shapes and sizes. Abdul said she’s looking for the best new dance act in America — specifically bold, daring dancers who are “willing to break barriers.” Whether any barriers were broken is yet to be determined. In order for a dancer or group to move past the audition round into the semi-finals, they had to receive two out of three stars from the illustrious panel. If an act was especially convincing or received support from the audience after receiving only one of three stars, the judges had the option of changing their initial judgment in order to move that act through to the next round. Highlights included the first contestant of the evening, 9-year-old hip-hop dancer Jalen, whose energetic performance wowed the judges and made his dad cry. “You have so much joy that comes out of that face of yours,” Abdul told the little dancer. “I just want to squeeze it!” Other memorable acts were senior dancers Bev, 83, and Hap, 68, who surprised the audience with a funk/jazz routine and celebrated their three gold stars from the judges by doing victory pushups right on the stage. The last acts from the Los Angeles round that stood out were young contemporary partners Jill and Jacob, who sweetly danced around the issue of whether they were romantically linked or not. Paula Abdul superfan Stone wasn’t the most talented contestant, but because he performed his “dance” to Abdul’s hit “Forever Your Girl,” he won the audience (and Abdul) over. Though he didn’t make it, he received a hug from his idol, who told the audience that “Forever Your Girl” was a song that can only belong to one person, her father (who was shown beaming up at his daughter from the audience). And then it was time for the New York auditions. Highlights from the Big Apple included another senior, Bonnie Buchner, a 90-year-old woman who tapped her way into the audience’s heart, but not into the semi-finals. Abdul did call Buchner a “precious gift,” though. Other stand-outs were a troupe of kids dressed as creepy zombies dancing in and around a mausoleum, a contortionist who looked like he popped joints and bones out of place, a group called “Twitch” that featured a bunch of girls and one guy (Abdul told them they inspired her), and the closing act of the evening, a very young ballroom dance pair (they looked to be no more than 8 or 9 years old, if that), D’Angelo and Amanda, who admitted to “maybe” being boyfriend and girlfriend. There were definitely memorable performances, but two hours seemed a bit lengthy. We’ll have to wait and see how they continue or change the format in later episodes. And the host, if he is indeed the host, could use more to do than just chatting with contestants backstage and occasionally attempting to engage the audience. “Idol” fans who were hoping for some signature kooky Abdul moments were probably mildly disappointed that her comments were more of the sweet-and-heartfelt variety (“You are a bright ray of sunshine!”) than filled with loopy non sequiturs. But the show is young! What did you think of Paula Abdul’s “Live to Dance”? Share your reviews in the comments! Related Artists Paula Abdul
