‘Hunger Games’ Oscars Party: A How-To

In this week’s Hobnobbing, we plan your Panem-themed Academy Awards fete. By Amy Wilkinson Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate Well, the 84th annual Academy Awards are right around the corner, and though ” Hunger Games ” fans have another year to wait until the big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ teen novel is awards-eligible (we’ve got you in our crosshairs, Best Picture nomination !), that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate in revolutionary style. And we’re making it super easy for you hungry film buffs out there. We’ve carefully composed a step-by-step guide to throwing your very own “Hunger Games”-themed Oscars party. Dig in! Reap Your Attendees Just like Panem’s most prestigious event, you can’t let the entire dystopian nation into your Oscars get-together. Write each of your friends’ names down on a slip of paper, drop them into a bowl and select only 24 pals to enjoy your bean dip and Billy Crystal-shaped Jell-O mold. They’ll thank you for it in the end. Set Up a Groom Room Tributes — I mean, guests — can’t even think of setting foot into the arena of your living room without first dividing their unibrows and conquering their hairy gams. Clear a common space (who needs privacy?) for your pals to primp and polish (sans Cinna and company, unfortunately) before the opening ceremonies. Stock generously with Capitol Colours nail polish . Let the Games Begin! OK, full disclosure: This isn’t so much a party as it is a cinephilic death match — only one guest can survive. Print Oscar ballots for each attendee (our friends at NextMovie have a handy, downloadable version) and be sure they fill out every category. Eliminate each incorrect guest, ushering them out of your home one by one (anthem optional) until you’re left with a single, exhausted winner. Cue the Parade Six months later (August 26, to be exact), you’ll want to invite the winner back to your house or apartment for their victory tour. Knock on each of your neighbors’ doors (starting with the highest number) and request they throw you a huge celebratory feast. Gratis. Your Hobnobbing Gamemakers guarantee this will be one party Panem will be talking about for years to come! May the Oscars be ever in your favor! Paul “Skip” Stam (R-Apex) passed out two documents to the attendees at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Law today. In his opening remarks he gleefully referred to the ” Act Concerning Marriages (1669) ” handout (below)… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : Firedoglake Discovery Date : 21/09/2011 22:13 Number of articles : 2

Kelsey Grammer Announces Love for Kayte Walsh

With his soon-to-be-ex-wife speaking out at every turn, and with rumors regarding his divorce spreading, Kelsey Grammer has finally released a statement. It explains why he’s in such a rush to split from Camille Grammer and marry Kayte Walsh and it boils down to one word: LOVE. “Kayte and I are marrying because we are engaged, and we are engaged because we are in love and see no reason to postpone our happiness any longer,” the actor says. While no wedding date has been scheduled, Grammer adds: “We are planning something we wish to be a private affair among several of our friends. Anything else is conjecture and false. Kayte and I are the only reliable source for this story. End of story.” This is all well and good, but with Kesley and Camille Grammer first filing for divorce in July, one has to wonder: when did he have time to fall so in love with someone else?

Taylor Momsen: A Product of the Industry

Taylor Momsen recently had an enlightening realization. “You get more insight as you get older, on everything. I kind of woke up one morning and was like, ‘Oh I see what’s happening, I get everything.'” “I woke up and was like, ‘I get it, I’m a product .'” “Fame just kind of happens overnight. No one can prepare you for it. On Gossip Girl , I was just going to work, doing what I’ve always done.” “Then all of a sudden you’re like, ‘Woah!’ But you get used to it. You ignore it. ‘Cause whatever people say about me doesn’t bother me at all.” “It doesn’t matter if you’re in high school or college or at work, someone’s not going to like you. It’s inevitable. But it doesn’t mean anything.” Sage words from someone so young. Between all the pro-masturbation comments and topless concert photos , our little girl is really maturing. For a look at some of this “product” in action, here’s Taylor and her band, The Pretty Reckless, performing their hit “Make Me Wanna Die” … The Pretty Reckless – Make Me Wanna Die

Ann Coulter To Gay Conservatives: Marriage ‘Is Not A Civil Right — You’re Not Black’

Nobody ever said Ann Coulter was going to play nice during her time at Homocon, a summit held by the gay conservative group GOProud over the weekend, not even the organizers who insisted that she be there. Perhaps it came as little surprise to them, then, when the conservative pundit stood before the group of 150 attendees and aggressively railed against gay marriage. Marriage “is not a civil right — you're not black,” Coulter told the crowd, building upon an argument that claimed the equal protections provided by the Fourteenth Amendment — and potentially used to build a case for marriage equality — were only applicable to black people. Coulter, who was dropped from a recent event by conservative publication WorldNetDaily for her supposed traitorous behavior in headlining the gay event, wasn't done taking social issues to the heart of perhaps the most socially liberal faction within the GOP. Talking Points Memo's Megan Carpentier on Coulter's speech: In fact, despite opening her speech with a joke about the difficulty of “coming out” as a fiscal conservative to one's parents — something she congratulated the attendees on — Coulter's speech to GOProud mystifyingly focused on social issues and not the fiscal and foreign policy issues that brought most of the attendees there. For instance, she told GOProud that the conservative gay rights movement ought to make common cause with the anti-abortion movement because, she said, “as soon as they find the gay gene, you know who's getting aborted.” Coulter also made a forceful case against sex education in schools, accusing liberals of attempting to teach kindergartners about “fisting” (which garnered her a heckler, who shouted out “What's wrong with fisting?”) and told the crowd that most parents didn't want their children learning about the “homosexual lifestyle” instead of reading and writing. But the attendees of Homocon can't say she didn't warn them — literally. “I should warn you: I've never failed to talk gays out of gay marriage,” Coulter said at the beginning of the speech. And the organizers of the event didn't seem surprised. “We didn't invite her here because we agree on everything,” GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia told the Daily Caller. “We invited her here because we know she gives a great speech and we had a great dialogue on that subject tonight.” As for Coulter, she told the Daily Caller that the gay crowd was actually more receptive to her anti-gay marriage message than they were willing to concede. “The truth is…they're already against gay marriage, they just wont admit it publicly,” said Coulter. “I'm trying to get these gays to come out of the closet.” added by: emarston

DC NBC Anchor Wendy Rieger Hosts Event Honoring Truther, Marxist Van Jones

A local NBC News Washington DC correspondent emceed an event Tuesday night honoring former White House Green Jobs Czar Van Jones. Jones, for those who don’t remember, was forced to resign from the White House after it came to light that he had signed a 9/11 “Truther” petition. He apparently ascribes to a number of radical ideologies, including Marxism and Black Liberation Theology. He was a notable defending of convicted cop-killer (and leftist cause celebre) Mumia Abu-Jamal, and insisted that “white polluters and the white environmentalists are essentially steering poison into the people of color communities because they don’t have a racial justice frame.” WRC News 5’s Wendy Rieger hosted the event honoring this man. “Her involvement is simply to help support the organization,” a network spokesman told the Daily Caller , “and she had no involvement in choosing the attendees or award recipients.” Fair enough, but Green DMV, the organization that held Green Night Out, as it was called, considers Van Jones worthy of praise, billing him as a “globally recognized, award-winning pioneer in human rights and the clean-energy economy.” That speaks volumes about that organization. Rieger hosted the event in a professional capacity, which suggests that she and NBC News both consider the organization a worthy one. NBC insists that Rieger’s prominent presence was not in any way a sign of support for Green DMV’s attitude towards Jones, but he was not an obscure figure at this event. In fact, Rieger’s and Jones’s faces both graced the graphic advertising the event .

Kim Kardashian’s Face Looks Fuckign Weird of the Day

If you’re anything like me, you like sitting on benches outside of various stores in the mall until the staff kindly ask you to leave, or sometimes call security on you because you are creeping out the customers as you try to get them to invite you into the changing room, or chime in with suggestions of what panties you think they would look good in. Sometimes we hit up the bikini store, other times the underwear stores and every once in a while the shoe store.
