Ford Dazzles North Carolina Central’s Homecoming With A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie & Its Saucy New F-150 Truck

Ford Takes Over NCCU’s Homecoming Ford closed out its next-level F-150 Truck Tour at North Carolina Central University’s Homecoming  in Durham, NC with a campus-rocking performance by rising superstar A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, fun-filled spin wheel and hula hoop challenges and a “Drive 4 Ur Community” initiative that raised $20 for every test drive to support the Tom Joyner Foundation. Before breezing from hit to hit to chart-topping hit, A-Boogie joined Ford’s Multicultural Communications Manager Dee Guerrero at an exclusive breakfast to honor NCCU student Jordan Thomas who makes a difference by going further on his campus through community service. The nationwide tour allowed attendees to support HBCUs by simply test-driving the latest lineup of F-150 pickups, including the XLT and Lariat. For each test drive, Ford donated up to $6,000 to the Tom Joyner Foundation to support the dreams and goals of HBCU students. This tour was another big and bold reminder of Ford Motor Company’s longtime commitment to Historically Black Colleges and Universities. For Discussion: Southern University Leaders Worried Obama’s $60 Billion Free Community College Plan Will Destroy HBCUs

Will President Obama’s new education proposal kill Historically Black Colleges? Via The Advocate reports: Some Southern University leaders are concerned that a proposal by President Barack Obama to make community college free will have a negative impact on historically black colleges and universities. Under Obama’s plan, the federal and state governments would cover the cost of community college for two years for qualifying Americans, which he says would strengthen the U.S. workforce. The estimated cost: about $60 billion over 10 years. But Southern system board member Tony Clayton said the plan would funnel students who might otherwise go to HBCUs instead to community colleges. “I think that kills HBCUs,” Clayton said. He said he plans to reach out to Louisiana’s congressional delegation and urge them to oppose Obama’s plan. “We have to send a message to (Obama) that he’s wrong on this,” Clayton said. Southern University System President Ron Mason said he’s also concerned about the proposal and what it could mean for the future of Southern and other HBCUs. In preliminary plans that the Obama administration has unveiled, the federal government would pick up 75 percent of the costs, with the rest left to the states. Students would have to attend community college at least half-time, keep at least a 2.5 GPA and “make steady progress” toward completing their programs, and the colleges themselves would have to ensure their programs are rigorous and are meeting workforce demands. Quote Of The Day: Michelle Obama Says African-American Students Aren’t Making Education A Priority – “They Just Aspire To Be Ballers And Rappers!”

First Lady ‘Chelly O is talkin that talk! Michelle Obama Speaks On Higher Education For African-American Students First Lady Michelle Obama is giving her two cents on the lack of priority that young African-American students place on higher education. The FLOTUS recently addressed the graduating class of Bowie State University, which is one of many Historically Black Colleges, where she made it a point to stress the importance of going to college and commended the graduating class for beating the statistics. via Think Progress First Lady Michelle Obama decided to trot out some very old talking points in her commencement address to the 2013 graduating class at Bowie State University: “Today, instead of walking miles every day to school, they’re sitting on couches for hours, playing video games, watching TV. Instead of dreaming of being a teacher or a lawyer or a business leader, they’re fantasizing about being a baller or a rapper,” Obama continued. “Right now, one in three African American students are dropping out of high school, only one in five African Americans between the ages of 25 and 29 has gotten a college degree.” But priorities should change, she said, because “getting an education is as important if not more important than it was back when this university was founded.” The first lady is known for keeping it 100 when she speaks, and this time was no exception. What do you think about her comments, Bossip fam?
