Osama Bin Laden Raid Film Seal Team Six To Air 48 Hours Before Election Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden is the first high-profile dramatisation of the attack on the al-Qaida leader’s Pakistan hide-out. The incident, in May 2011, was widely regarded as a coup for the Obama administration, following former President Bush’s failed seven-year attempt to catch Bin Laden “dead or alive.” Produced by the Weinstein Company, the film will be broadcast on the National Geographic Channel on Sunday November 4th, The Guardian reports . Christian Bale Returns to David O. Russell FBI and Con Artists Film David O. Russell took over the project that was at first titled American Bullshit from Ben Affleck. Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale were attached to star, but then Jeremy Renner signed on to replace Bale and Amy Adams joined the cast. But now Bale is back and the project is untitled. It is based on a true story about an infamous con artist (Bale) and his partner/love interest (Adams) who are working with a federal agent (Cooper) to take on dirty politicians and mobsters, Vulture reports . Bradley Cooper to Receive Hollywood Film Awards Honors Cooper will be feted by the awards for his role in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook . Specialty Box Office: Paperboy Strong in Debut; House I Live In , Wuthering Heights , The Oranges Fair Lee Daniels’ The Paperboy lead the pack of specialty newcomers with a solid $110,033 at 11 locations and an average of $10,003. That gives the Oscar-nominated director a respectable first showing for his follow-up to his lauded 2009 film Precious, although it falls short of spectacular. Even so, it bested the weekend’s other new titles in limited release. Only Abramorama’s House I Live In came close with a $9,827 average in 2 theaters, Deadline reports .

Those Rand-y Republicans: Nine Films That Espouse The New GOP’s Libertarian Mindset

Thanks to absolutist firebrands such as Rand and Ron Paul , laissez-faire economic sentiment has been gaining momentum in the GOP for some time. But with the nomination of deficit hawk wunderkind — and notable Ayn Rand devotee — Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running mate, movement libertarianism has officially been added to the Republican presidential platform. Regardless of whether Romney is elected and Ryan’s controversial budget proposals are made law, the rebranding has already created two decisive effects: first, it has excited the fiscal-conservative base enough to warrant representation at the penultimate level; and second, it has convinced swaths of more marginal voters, who vaguely recall skimming through Atlas Shrugged as undergrads, that they were ardent “objectivists” all along. In honor of the libertarian strain of Republicanism getting its RNC coronation this week, here are the top nine films that evoke a reverie for free markets and, in some cases, the dystopian nightmare that’s sure to follow if we ignore Rand’s literary prophecy. 1. Top Gun (1986):    Many conservatives credit Ronald Reagan with bringing down the Berlin Wall and ending the Cold War. Cineastes know it was Maverick and Goose. The recently deceased Tony Scott’s pop art masterpiece did for capitalism what Eisenstein’s innovation of montage did for Bolshevism. (Just substitute the jittery stomping of horses with more photogenic F-16 fighter jets. Today’s audiences smirk at the towel-clad locker-room romping and blue-jeaned volleyball homoeroticism , but the convergence of “Danger Zone” aerial balletics and the mega-wattage of a then 23-year-old Tom Cruise is still enough to raise long-dormant goose-bumps for American exceptionalism.) 2. Casablanca (1942)  :  Humphrey Bogart’s Rick runs the best casino-bar in town, traffics in guns for African rebels, and appeases the Nazi occupation just to keep it all in the black. He is the archetype of the cutthroat entrepreneur: “I stick my neck out for nobody,” he unhesitatingly declares. Randians will rejoice as Rick wheels and deals in dubious moral territory with the stoic confidence of a man who believes doing what makes sense for Rick is the only true imperative. Just make sure to tune out before the last act when Bogey’s iconic hero contrives a plot for the good of humanity capped with the ultimate act of altruism: saying goodbye to Ingrid Bergman. 3. The Dark Knight Rises (2012): Yes, Christian Bale as Batman selflessly gives nearly everything to save his fellow Gothamites in the concluding chapter of Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus trilogy – including an attempt to develop a MacGuffin fusion technology. Free socialized energy for the whole world! Yet, the politics of Nolan’s franchise are more inscrutable than Bane’s face mask-muffled line readings. A short list of the thematic evocations, in no particular order, include: 9/11, the subprime crash, Occupy Wall Street, kangaroo-court tyranny, class warfare and vigilante justice. Alas, none of these threads cohere into a mission-statement that that transcends the film’s deafening soundtrack, or its grimly self-serious hero mythology. Because the leftist aspirations of Bruce Wayne are so dwarfed by the narrative’s hodge-podge of political themes, avowed libertarians should simply enjoy this film’s spectacular set-pieces while delighting in the bleak vision of a militarized proletariat revolution. Hint: it mostly involves sending the “productive class” on a short-walk over a thinly frozen East River.

Some On Screen Swirl? Bradley Cooper To Get It Poppin On Camera With Bey Bey In ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

Bradley Cooper Wanted For Male Lead In ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake ‘Hangover’ front man Bradley Cooper is the latest Hollyweird hunk of hotness in consideration to star opposite mommy banger Bey Bey in the Clint Eastwood remake of ‘A Star Is Born.” Bradley Cooper is reportedly mulling over an offer to star opposite Beyonce in Clint Eastwood’s film “A Star is Born.” Eastwood allegedly wants Cooper as the leading man for the movie, according to Variety. The director’s version of “A Star is Born” will be a remake of the 1937 film. The movie is about an aging rocker who falls in love with a young, rising star. Screenwriter Will Fetters based the aging rocker character on Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, imagining how he would last in the industry 20 years later had he survived. The Press Association reports Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Will Smith have all turned down the “Star Is Born” role. Tom Cruise was the latest to be linked to the part. “The Hangover” actor may be contemplating the role in Eastwood’s Warner Bros. remake, but according to Variety, “there is no deal in place and Cooper has a very busy schedule.” Hmmmm. Sounds like quite a few Hollyweird heavyweights have turned down this male lead offer. Wonder what that’s about? We’re thinking they’ll have better luck with Bradley since he’s certainly known to get his off-screen swirl on ! Source

Report: Unopened James Holmes Letter Detailed Plans for Massacre

According to a new report, James Holmes actually alerted a psychologist at the University of Colorado to his plans to commit mass murder… only the recipient never opened the package in question. Fox News says the Colorado shooting suspect mailed a notebook “full of details about how he was going to kill people” to the school’s mail room, which is where police and FBI agent found it this week. “There were drawings of what he was going to do in it – drawings and illustrations of the massacre,” an insider with knowledge told Fox, adding that the photos drawn in a spiral-bound notebook’s pages depict a gun-wielding stick figure opening fire on other stick figures. The package has reportedly been sitting in the mailroom since July 12 and was never delivered to the professor to whom it was addressed. It is now in the hands of the FBI. It’s unclear if the recipient ever had any contact with Holmes, but he or she treats patients at a psychiatry outpatient facility on campus. Holmes was a student at the school’s neuroscience doctoral program until a few weeks ago. In related, far more positive news: Christian Bale visited victims of the tragedy in Aurora yesterday.

The Actors Who Rose in The Dark Knight Rises–and Those Who Did Not (Hint: One of Them Is French)

Rare is the movie in which every cast member performs at the same level–unless maybe you’re talking about the uniformly jaw-dropping performances of everyone in “Witless Protection.” So, here at Movieline, we’d like to begin a tradition of ranking performances within movies–a sort of intramural Oscars, if you will–and asking you to weigh in with your own.  We’ll introduce polling and a catchy title soon enough, but we just had to start with The Dark Knight Rises –a movie in which the performances range from sublime (Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to wince-inducing (Marion Cotillard). See how your favorite–or least favorite–character rates below, and then leave your own ranking in the comments section. 1. Tom Hardy:  Yes, comic-book villains are usually way more interesting than the heroes who inevitably vanquish them, but thanks to a considerable piece of hardware strapped to his face, Hardy had a tougher  acting job than the late Heath Ledger did when he played the Joker.  Okay, the Vader-ish voicebox torqued up the creep factor (and made his dialogue hard to understand at times), but Hardy left his pretty-boy aura in his trailer and gave a performance—essentially using his eyes and body language—that was pure, cold malevolence.  Darth gave us nightmares when we were kids, but it’s Bane who’ll wake us in a cold sweat for years to come. 2. Anne Hathaway: Hathaway’s tough, tender–and mouthy–performance as Catwoman erased once and for all the bad taste that lingered in our craw after her loopy Oscars-hosting performance. We knew she could act, but boy does she act in TDKR. And she looks totally hot in her costume, especially while draped over the Batpod.  Spin her off into her own film and she’ll make us forget Halle Berry’s turn as Catwoman, too 3. Joseph Gordon-Levitt:  Gordon-Levitt made the most of a one-note role. His orphan speech to Bruce Wayne could have been as gloppy as bad macaroni and cheese, but he put some sharp Gruyere into it.  And we won’t spoil the picture entirely, but let’s just say the boy could carry his own superhero movie. 4. Ben Mendelsohn: Yes, Ben Mendelsohn. Although his onscreen time, as the construction magnate Daggett, is relatively brief, Mendelsohn is memorable–and, judging from the few narcissistic, weasel-thin corporate titans we’ve met in our travels–extremely realistic. We want to see more of this guy. 5. Michael Caine: We did NOT want to see Alfred cry. But since we had to see Alfred cry, we’re glad that Caine got to regulate the waterworks. 6. Christian Bale: Bale is by far the best actor to wear the  bat-cowl onscreen–and we’ll always give him extra credit for his performance in “Empire of the Sun.”But he didn’t give us anything new in his third outing as the Caped Crusader. His freak-out on the set of Terminator Salvation was more revealing. 7. Morgan Freeman: Same beef. We’ve seen Freeman play this role before–and not just in the Batman franchise. 8. Gary Oldman: We’re sorry, but we couldn’t take our eyes off that damn moustache.  No doubt the talented Oldman was acting his heart out, but while he was doing that, we were imagining cleaning trash-strewn Gotham City streets with his facial hair. 9. Matthew Modine:  We were glad to see him playing a substantial role, and he sure does d-bag arrogance well. Maybe too well. We swear we saw him smirking to himself during a few scenes. 10. Marion Cotillard:  She made us cry in La Vie en Rose. She made us snicker in TKDR. Without giving away too much, let’s just say, we hope you’re not swigging from your Hefty can full of soda when you find out her character’s true identity.  The same goes for the emoting she does in her final scene, which would have been more at home in the pre-talkies part of  The Artist. We doubt you  agree. (Even our own Jen Yamato would put Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the top spot.) So tell us what you think.
