Concert-Goers At NYC’s Global Citizen Festival Mistook A Fallen Barrier For Gunshots

Theo Wargo/Getty Images for Global Citizen Panic Ensues As People Mistake Fallen Barrier For Gunshots At Festival Every year, thousands of people pack into Central Park in New York City for Global Citizen Festival, a concert that boasts big headliners and free tickets, all for the cause of ending extreme poverty by 2030. This year, however, there was some panic at the festival that almost halted the concert. Just ahead of Janet Jackson’s set at the Global Citizen Festival, a fallen barrier caused panic among the 60,000 attendees–who reportedly thought it was the sound of gunshots. Witnesses at the scene told  the  New York Times  that the confusion and fear of an active shooter at the music festival nearly caused a stampede as concertgoers fled. Chris Martin, who was on the stage at the time, tried to calm the attendees down. “What happened is a barrier I think fell down. Of course it caused people to be a bit frightened and stuff like that. But nobody is trying to hurt nobody. You are all safe,” he said to cheers before handing the microphone to NYPD’s assistant chief Kathleen O’Reilly, who also reassured the safety of the attendees. There was no shots fired. Hopefully the show is going to go on. We just have to reassess the situation and try and create a new safety lane. We’re going to have to try our best.” Global Citizen later tweeted out that there were a few injuries caused by those running away, etc, but the show would go on. Thank you to all the Global Citizens who took action and joined us today. Our thoughts are with those who were injured or afraid after the barrier fell earlier this evening. After some amazing sets from the likes of Cardi B and Janelle Monae, Janet Jackson took the stage–and even brought out Q-Tip out as a surprise guest to perform their classic hit “Got ’til It’s Gone.” The Weeknd ended out the night with an amazing performance, and the rest of the night went off without a hitch.

Bethenny Frankel and Carole Radziwill aren’t the only The Real Housewives of New York City stars to have a frittered friendship . Luann de Lesseps and Ramona Singer weren’t exactly joined at the hip before, but now Luann is taking her to task. Why? Because Ramona betrayed her trust when she was at her most vulnerable — right after she got out of rehab. If you watch The Real Housewives of New York City online , you already know what went down on the episode titled: ” Arrest and Relaxation. ” But one explosive conflict from the episode really merits a closer look. On Wednesday night’s episode of RHONY , Luann did not mince words when she referred to a group photo that Ramona shared with the world. “The she-devil strikes again,” Luann announced. She-devil can either be very confrontational (because yikes!) or very complimentary (it’s what Red Sonja is called, after all), but Luann meant it in the worst sense. Luann explains: “I really feel like Ramona invaded my privacy by putting a picture out of me when nobody knew where I was.” The Countess was in a very vulnerable place in her life and did not feel encouraged by the entire world knowing what she was up to just yet. “And now,” Luann says. “The whole world knows I’m out of rehab.” She wanted to let the world know on her terms, when the time was right. She feels that Ramona robbed her of that opportunity. What’s more is that Luann fears that Ramona’s thoughtless photo — which, in fairness, Ramona did later delete — could impact her appearance in court. “I have a court case coming up,” Luann laments.”I don’t need more press!” Being a reality star has its pitfalls. Luann explains why publicity is a problem, saying: “I don’t need pictures of me and the press making guesses at what I’m up to.” The rest of us might look at a headline that says Luann de Lesseps: Out of Rehab and Drinking Already? and question its veracity. But if a judge sees that kind of speculation, it might change Luann’s life forever. Since the news was out in the open anyway, Luann did make it official with a post of her own. “It’s good to be home,” Luann wrote to her fans and followers. “I’m doing great. Spending time with friends and family. Thanking everyone for your continued good wishes and support.” “My return to New York is supposed to be on my terms,” Luann tells the camera.. “I just feel like I got the rug pulled out of me.” She felt shocked that others knew before she was ready to tell the world. On RHONY , she’s seen giving Ramona a piece of her mind. “You put a picture up and now Luann is the talk of the town again,” Luann laments. She does acknowledge that she knew that it would happen sooner or later — but that she feels betrayed that it was by Ramona’s hand. “It’s inevitable that I will be in the press again, I just don’t want my friends to drive it,” Luann says. “You opened up a can of worms for me.” “These are hurtful things. You’re hurting me,” Luann explained. “You have to be more respectful and thoughtful about your friends.” Ramona was shocked, having not realized that she was doing anything wrong. “We also post group shots! It’s a beautiful picture,” Ramona said, at first being defensive. Ramona did realize that she was in the wrong and apologized, saying: “You didn’t tell me not to post. … I’m sorry.” Ramona, to her credit, became very apologetic and worked to make things right. “I’m disappointed in myself,” Ramona admitted. “I wasn’t thinking. Now I understand. … I made a huge mistake. This was bad. What I did was bad.” Luann also had another bone to pick with Ramona. See, Ramona had been hanging out with Luann’s recent ex, Tom D’Agustino. “There are so many guys on the Upper East Side. Really?” Luann tells the camera. She continues to complain to the camera about Ramona, saying: “You have to go and have drinks with Tom? I knew Ramona wasn’t the brightest tool in the shed, but what an idiot.” To be honest, that seems a little harsh.  “It’s not cool,” Luann said, yelling at Ramona. “If you’re my friend, it’s not cool. What you did, most people would never talk to you again.” Whoa, there. She spoke with him socially. She didn’t bang him. “That is the lowest of the low,” Luann insists, feeling betrayed. “Do you realize that? What you did is the lowest of the low.” Ramona explained that she hadn’t been there to meet with Tom, that they had just happened into each other. “Just because Luann divorced Tom doesn’t mean he’s going to disappear,” Ramona says. “He travels with the same circle as I do,” Ramona continues. “He has the same friends as I do.” That’s one of the big pitfalls of a breakup — everybody knows each other. Ramona then throws some shade, saying: “Listen, if I couldn’t talk with every man Luann ended up being with, I wouldn’t be talking to any men in New York City!” Luann is not amused, however. “You make it worse,” Luann accuses. “You don’t have my best interest at heart and I can’t be around that.” Wow. Farrah Abraham: JJ Abrams Is Gonna Make My Life Story Into a Movie!

Backdoor Star Wars ? Super 8 Inches ? Felicity, But She’s a Porn Star Instead of a College Student ? Yes, the prospect of a Farrah Abraham-J.J. Abrams collaboration has our minds racing with possibility. Unfortunately, at this point, the project exists only in Farrah’s fevered imagination. It seems that ever since being fired from Teen Mom OG for her refusal to stop performing in online sex shows, Ms. Abraham has had a lot of time on her hands. While much of that time has been dedicated to less-than-productive pursuits, such as getting arrested for attacking hotel staff , she’s also been casually toying with the idea of dropping a new Citizen Kane on all our asses. Yes, Farrah is hoping to adapt her memoir, My Teenage Dream Ended, into a Hollywood feature film. And she knows just who she wants in charge of the project. “I’m working on storyboards right now and the screenplay, it’s really a project and a challenge and it’s crazy good,” she recently explained to TooFab. “I can’t wait, I’m on my first draft right now and it’s going beyond what was said in the book.” But don’t worry, Farrah isn’t straying too far from the magic that made Teenage Dream the Moby Dick of reality TV memoirs. “The book is a classic, and that’s where everything stems from, and that’s the main storyline, which we need to stick with,” Farrah says. “But I also think showing some before and after the show is really what the fans want, so we’re getting that and I can’t wait to show that. It’s going to be very interesting.” Yes, Farrah just unironically described her memoir as a classic. And who knows? Maybe in 40 years, schoolchildren will be writing book reports about the various symbolic meanings of the term “backdoor” in Farrah’s masterwork. Believe it or not, that seems more plausible than Farrah’s plans for the movie version of her book. You see, Farrah not only thinks this film is getting made, she’s convinced it’s gonna win every Oscar and make a cool few billion at the international box office. “We’re going to have a real casting director, producers, the best of the best for everything,” she stated. “Maybe I’ll work with J.J. Abrams, there are some other people on my top list. “The production companies associated with I , Tonya , I really think they would get this storyline as well. So I can’t wait to see who’s the best fit.” Actually … comparing herself to Tonya Harding might actually be the least-dumb thing Farrah has ever done. As for JJ’s involvement — well, can envision that meeting now: Abrams: So what’s this project all about? Cigar-Munching Hollywood Type: A reality star who sells plastic molds of her b-hole on the internet. But don’t worry; it’s got a real casting director! Abrams: Sold! As for who will play the role of Farrah, it’s tough to predict which direction her ego will take her in on this one. Obviously, she would relish the attention that would come with playing herself. But at the same time, the allure of recruiting some A-list Oscar-winner like Jennifer Lawrence might be too strong to resist. H&M Tries To Avoid Another Racist ‘Monkey’ Hoodie Incident By Working With Black Marketers

H &M agreed to work with South African marketers to help tackle racism after its offensive “Monkey” hoodie ad prompted protests in January. The retail giant had been dragged through the flames after it posted the racist ad that featured a Black child in a “Coolest Monkey In The Jungle” hoodie . Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) held demonstrations against the international clothing retailer at its shops in South Africa after the incident. H&M shops were trashed and closed. H&M admitted wrongdoing and met with the Anti-Racism Network South Africa (ARNSA) following a letter sent to the retailer,  Neeshan Balton , director of the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, an organization dedicated to “deepening non-racialism in post-apartheid South Africa,” said to The Citizen , a South Africa newspaper. H&M said they won't get caught slipping again! They partnered with a #SouthAfrican marketing team to combat racist practices after protests overtook stores. https://t.co/6ApXNnUVPT pic.twitter.com/t5lZWQaLPL — Blavity (@Blavity) March 7, 2018 ”They admitted they were wrong and are trying to understand how to undo their mistake,” Balton said. “Part of that engagement was because of the EFF demonstration. We had planned a demonstration after the EFF launched their protest, we could not proceed because we couldn’t match their scale.” Balton continued, ”Subsequent to that, the H&M global human resources head and the transformation officer arrived in the country and agreed to work with the Institute of Justice and Reconciliation in Cape Town, and ensure that [the] South African management team and staff fully understand the complexity of race relations and racism in the country. We are mindful that had the EFF not done what they did, H&M would never have agreed to meet with the ARNSA.” As part of H&M’s agreement, the company would also look into their procurement policy. The retail giant’s store furniture, shop fittings and advertising were not sourced from South Africa, Bolton explained. H&M has more work to do when it comes to racial sensitivity, and the world doesn’t want another #Hoodiegate. I don’t think I’ve ever done a post on Nicole Murphy and that makes me feel like a racist, since she’s very accomplished as the ex wife of Ed Murphy the comedian everyone fucking loved in the 80s and 90s….and I guess as a TV producer who created a show about Hollywood Exes, because I guess there is a club of them who all give each other high fives and discuss dealing with egos, massaging egos, until those egos married them and made them a lot of money… The most interesting thing about Nicole Murphy is that she was scouted as a model at 13, which is fucking disgusting…was dating Eddie in 1988…while modeling…and now she’s pumping gas like a commoner, a very rich commoner, which I guess should be a fetish to some of you, you know seeing a girl jack her car up with fluids from a phallus…so erotic… I’m more into the way you can see through her dress… I guess what I am saying is that the world doesn’t need more Nicole Murphy papaprazzi pics…but it’s a great way to start the day.
