On August 6, Jon Stewart’s tenure as host of The Daily Show will come to an end. Though a comic by trade, over the past 16 years, Stewart has become one of the most trusted names in news, and when he announced his retirement back in February, it came as a shock to many left-leaning comedy fans and political junkies. While Stewart’s time on The Daily Show may have earned him the undying respect of his peers and a place among the most beloved American humorists in recent history, his reputation took a major hit yesterday as a result of comments made by former costar Wyatt Cenac. Appearing on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, Cenac stated that he initially idolized Stewart and viewed him as something of a father figure. That all changed once the two of them began working together. It seems that at one point, Cenac expressed his discomfort with the racial undertones in Stewart’s impersonation of then-presidential candidate Herman Cain. According to Cenac, Stewart was decidedly unhappy with the criticism: “[Stewart] got incredibly defensive,” Cenac said “I remember he was like, ‘What are you trying to say? There’s a tone in your voice.’ I was like, ‘There’s no tone. It bothered me.'” “And he stood up and he was just like, “Fuck off. I’m done with you.” And he just started screaming that to me. And he screamed it a few times. “Fuck off! I’m done with you.” And he stormed out. And I didn’t know if I had been fired.” It turns out Cenac was not fired, but his working relationship with Stewart was forever damaged: “I was shaking, and I just sat there by myself on the bleachers and f–king cried,” Cenac told Maron “And it’s a sad thing. That’s how I feel. That’s how I feel in this job. I feel alone.” Yet another indication that you should never meet – let alone work for – your idols. Trevor Noah will take over for Stewart on September 28.

Celebrities love to share their thoughts on Twitter. Isn’t that right, Amanda Bynes ? Kim Kardashian? This isn’t to say that said Tweets are pearls of wisdom, or even coherent. In many cases, they are of little use and may be more confusing than anything. Jimmy Kimmel took his recurring “Lie Witness News” segment to Coachella last weekend, in an effort to get the perspective of festival-goers on various bands. Ones that do not actually exist. Jimmy Kimmel ‘Lie Witness News’ at Coachella “Music fans love knowing about bands no one else has heard of,” he dryly noted, then decided to take this idea to an entirely different, absurd level. “So we sent a camera crew to Coachella, and we asked people walking into the venue what they thought about a bunch of bands whose names we made up.” Among the awesome band names Kimmel and his correspondent invented: Dr. Shlomo & G.I. Clinic, The Chelsea Clintons and Get The F**k Out of My Pool. Two Door Cinema Club is actually real, however, to make it even more confusing.

Sway Calloway tells CBS’ ‘Early Show’ about MTV’s New Hampshire primary coverage and election-year plans. By Gil Kaufman Sway Calloway on CBS’ “The Early Show” Photo: CBS News MTV News already showed you some of the Power of 12 on Tuesday in Iowa when we spoke to a number of poll-goers about their choices in that first-in-the-nation presidential caucus. And our young voter initiative will continue on next Tuesday as we descend on New Hampshire for the first primary of the season. This time, our correspondent Sway Calloway will be on hand to speak to voters about what issues are on their minds, which candidates are likely to get their vote and what they’re looking for from their leaders as campaign 2012 heats up. Sway dropped in on CBS’ “Early Show” on Friday (January 6) to talk up the initiative, telling reporters Nancy Cordes and Jim Axelrod why the nation’s 45 million millennial (18-29) voters could hold the key to this year’s contest. “They can help set the agenda,” Sway said. “It’s about the individual vote and, collectively, they could change the whole entire election. We’ve seen this in the past, just four year ago. That’s what the Power of 12 is all about.” And that’s the reason, he said, why MTV created the Power of 12 hub as a clearinghouse for information on voting and a resource for young voters to get information and become informed about the issues. A continuation of MTV’s two-decade-plus commitment to political engagement, the Power of 12 initiative is an updated way to engage a new generation in the importance of political participation. “The Power of 12 is about now. It’s about 2012. It’s about this generation who are experiencing a different economic climate, as well as political climate,” Sway explained. “A lot of young Americans are feeling disillusioned, but they’re not disengaged with the political process. We saw the turnout with Occupy Wall Street . But when I go out in the streets and I talk to young potential voters, some of their concerns are student loans, how to pay for college and coming out of college and not having jobs.” It remains to be seen whether young voters will come out to support the remaining Republican candidates in New Hampshire. But in Iowa they showed up loud and proud for libertarian Ron Paul , even if voters under 30 only ended up representing 4 percent of the total vote in the Hawkeye state. Asked whether those voters will turn out for incumbent president Barack Obama they way they did in 2008, Sway said that while Obama still has the highest approval rating among that group for Democrats, “young voters will definitely set the agenda. If the candidates are wise, it would behoove them to tap into this ‘Power of 12’ and utilize this power and talk to this young vote.” Check back here around the clock for up-to-the-minute coverage on the primary caucuses and stick with PowerOf12.org throughout the 2012 presidential election season. CNN continued its one-sided coverage of homosexual issues with two segments on Monday's Newsroom which featured only liberal activists. Anchor Kyra Phillips endorsed the work of Kamora Harrington and her “True Colors” group , which “organizes the largest LGBT youth conference in the country.” Correspondent Dan Simon played a sound bite from one of the opponents of Prop 8 without playing any from supporters. Phillips led her segment with Harrington, which began 38 minutes into the 10 am EST, by hyping the apparently dire situation with homosexual teens: “Gay bullying, gay suicides- they're sad stories that we keep hearing over and over again. But if the anecdotes weren't enough, there is a pair of new studies detailing just how hard it is to grow up gay.” After playing a clip from a student discussion group which her guest regularly holds, the anchor turned to her and gave her first hint that she endorsed her organization's work: read more

While it came across more like a conversation between two reluctant friends than an epic battle between good and evil, Jon Stewart appeared on The O’Reilly Factor last night. The Fox News host tried to engaged The Daily Show anchor by referring to his audience as “stoned slackers who love Obama,” but Stewart didn’t take the bait.
