Are You Here For It?! Instagram Will Start To Test Hiding Likes In The United States Next Week

Source: Photo credit should read DENIS CHARLET/AFP/Getty Image  Instagram To Start Testing A Private Like Count Just as they’ve discussed in the past, it looks like Instagram is finally expanding its test to hide likes for those of us in the United States . During the WIRED25 event on Friday, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that a select number of U.S. users would see the like counts disappear from Instagram as soon as next week. He didn’t provide any further details on the scale of the test, but simply revealed it wouldn’t be “the whole U.S. at once.” “There’s a couple of hundred people in here, so definitely a couple of you will have private likes, I hope,” Mosseri said to the crowd. “It’s about young people. The idea is to try to depressurize Instagram, make it less of a competition, give people more space to focus on connecting with people they love, things that inspire them. But it’s really focused on young people. We have to see how it affects how people feel about the platform, how it affects how they use the platform…but I’ve been spending a lot of time on this, personally.” Earlier this year, Instagram started testing private likes among Canadian users, and they’ve since expanded the test to six other countries, which includes Brazil, Italy, Australia, Ireland, and Japan. With this new format, Instagram users will still have the ability to see which users liked each of their own posts, but the like count would no longer be visible to others.  These tests ended up being launched following concerns about social media’s effect on mental health. WATCH: Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announces that the platform will start hiding likes for US audiences starting next week. It's the latest step in Instagram’s quest to become the safest place on the internet. https://t.co/BGkMG57rdk #WIRED25 pic.twitter.com/WNTyAPVhaD — WIRED (@WIRED) November 9, 2019

Shailene Woodley Pussy Dance of the Day

Shailene Woodley is still saving the oceans…one pussy dance at a time.. This is some weirdness weirding me out. A dance video featuring all of her bikini clad friends, set to some song that I guess is a trendy song…but that I’ve never heard before cuz I am old. I assume that this is her TIKTOK as that is the new platform that matters on social media and it is th new platform for talent to rise to the top and end up on YOUTUBE making 100 million dollars a year… Just a weirdly shot boat video – doing her activism of Plastics in the Ocean, despite the real enemy in the Plastics war is big business, not the public deciding to not use single use plastic…that’ll show them….since ocean pollution is made up of 1% single use plastic and 99% plastics from other industries….know your enemy people. But I get it – don’t buy anything with plastic, and convince everyone you know to do the same, and the world will still produce as much plastic, and put that plastic in everything, cuz the individual will always lose to big business. NOT TO MENTION…America is a big polluter and all, but there are many other countries producing their own pollution and basically we need to accept the world is going to implode – one plastic straw at a time. All this to say, Shailene Woodley and her friends direct some pretty awkward and uncomfortable music videos. JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! See You Again: Fans Are Petitioning The UK Government To Lift Their Tyler, The Creator Ban

Source: ANGELA WEISS / Getty Fans Wants The UK To End Their Ban On Tyler, The Creator Fans of Tyler, The Creator are trying to convince the U.K. government to lift their “petty” ban on the rapper. Back in 2015, the Odd Future founder was informed that he was prohibited from entering Britain for the next three to five years. According to legal documents, the decision was due to the rapper’s controversial lyrical content, specifically citing songs from the 2009  Bastard  and 2011  Goblin  projects. He was then issued a letter that referenced the country’s Home Office policy on “behaviours unacceptable in the UK”; this was a set of guidelines created in 2005 to prevent suspected terrorists from entering the country. The UK Home Office addressed the ban in the following statement: “Coming to the UK is a privilege, and we expect those who come here to respect our shared values. The Home Secretary has the power to exclude an individual if she considers that his or her presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good or if their exclusion is justified on public policy grounds.” The decision came about a month after Tyler announced the cancelation of his Australia tour on his Twitter page. He informed fans he was banned from Oz after feminist organization Collective Shout pressured the government to deny his visa. “Now [the UK government] are just followers. Everyone is a follower, just following what other countries are doing,” Tyler told The Guardian , suggesting the UK was taking cues from Australia in their ban. “Now I’m getting treated like a terrorist. I’m bummed out because it’s like, dude, I’m not homophobic. I’ve said this since the beginning. The “hating women” thing – it’s so nuts. It’s based on things I made when I was super-young, when no one was listening [to my music].” Fast forward to today, a fan named Sam Roberts created a petition that asks the UK government to end Tyler’s ban immediately. The petition page states that the lyrics in question were “intended as adult humour” and no longer reflect the person Tyler is today, so many years later. According to the page, this petition needs to receive at least 10,000 signatures to get a reaction from the government, and at least 100,000 signatures to be considered for debate in Parliament.

Larissa Dos Santos Lima, 90 Day Fiance Star, Arrested for Domestic Battery

Larissa Dos Santos Lima, who plays a major role on this season of 90 Day Fiance, was arrested for domestic battery in Las Vegas on Saturday, November 10. Scroll down to learn more about what transpired… Larissa stars opposite Colt Johnson on the controversial TLC series. According to Clark County inmate records, she was originally being held on $3,000 bail following her arrest, although her court records have been updated to reflect a $2,000 reduction. We can also confirm that she’s scheduled to have a 72-hour hearing on Tuesday morning. While details are still coming in, Larissa changed her Instagram handle to @helpmeimwithoutphone shortly before the incident went down… … and also shared a number of disturbing messages on Saturday. “HELP ME …HE TURNED OFF HIDE MY PHONE HELP ME HE WANTS TO CALL THE POLICE HELP ME,” she wrote at one point, including her own phone number on her online biography. In a series of since-deleted Instagram Story messages, meanwhile, Colt allegedly told his followers: “Larissa was arrested this afternoon. She suffers from high anxiety and several depression. She over reacted to problems that do not exist.” Very weird and sort of scary, right? Colt went on to explain that he “proceeded to deactivate her phone to try to defuse the situation,” but that their disagreement “escalated and matters became worse” and added: “She felt this action was a threat towards her and tried to reach out for help. “Not long after her cry was posted, the police came and knocked down the front door. They drew their guns at me and handcuffed me.” Larissa hails from Brazil and met Colt via social media. The two met up in Mexico and Colt later proposed after just a few days together. According to court records obtained by E! News, this is Larissa’s second arrest for domestic violence, although charges from earlier this year were dropped. Revealing that he and Larissa are married, Colt continued over the weekend: “The police interviewed us but not long after they decided to arrest Larissa. No one was hurt and I did not press charges against my wife. “However it is policy in the state of Nevada that since we are in a domestic partnership, someone had to be arrested.” We’ll have plenty more on this story as more news breaks. For now, it may simply raise questions about a show based on two people who have just met and decided to get married, mostly so one of them can remain in the United States. “The couples must marry before the visas expire in 90 days, or else the visitors have to immediately return to their countries,” reads the official TLC description. Is this really something around which we ought to build an entire program? Does it not increase the possibility that something such as this arrest can take place, as one person’s future is based on making a marriage work with, basically, a complete stranger? Just sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Despite receiving several offers from top schools across the country, the teen knew that she wanted to further her education at Howard. She plans on pursuing a degree in biology and aspires to become a surgeon. “Howard was always my first choice! When I was accepted to Howard, I knew I was ready to go. I was screaming and crying, and I cannot wait to start class,” said Allen in a statement. Allen says her personal experiences inspired her to want a career in the medical field. “A couple of years ago, my father had a massive stroke where a blood clot traveled from his heart to his brain. Since then, I’ve had the interest in cardiothoracic surgery,” she added. Howard has been working closely with community colleges to encourage students to complete their degrees at the Washington, D.C.-based school. The university has established a Transfer Student Association that organizes events throughout the year so that students feel connected to the community. “We know many arrive and don’t feel immediately connected. We make sure that transfer students feel a part of the community since day one,” said Melanie Carter , Ph.D., Associate Provost for Undergraduate Studies. Like Allen, there are many other Black youngsters throughout the country who are entering college earlier than expected. Earlier this year, 11-year-old Baton Rouge native Elijah Precciely received a full-ride scholarship from Southern University. Teen Pushes Tech Innovation In Nigeria Forward

A 15-year-old Nigerian teen is making waves in the tech industry with the creation of an app. Tomisin Ogunnubi ’s My Locator app—which is designed to find children who are lost—has introduced a new level of innovation to the technology sector in Nigeria, BBC reported. Tomisin Ogunnubi was just 12 when she created an app which helps lost children in Nigeria. More here: https://t.co/vWeraT7lr3 #BBCInnovators pic.twitter.com/Q0McuAFJlB — BBC World Service (@bbcworldservice) August 28, 2018 Ogunnubi began coding at the age of 12 and later conceptualized the idea for the app, the news outlet writes. The app—which she unveiled in 2016—utilizes the Google Maps feature to help individuals track those who are lost. There is also a functionality that allows users to add telephone numbers to the app so that they can easily share their location if an emergency were to occur. Since the launch of the app, it has been downloaded over 1,000 times. Ogunnubi says she was inspired to create My Locator because the security of children is something that is extremely important to her. “I was very conscious about security, thinking… there are different dangerous people, so I guess the idea of being able to go out safely might have been what triggered the idea for the app,” she told the news outlet. “But it was me then as my 12-year-old self-thinking, ‘Oh I’ve just learned how to create applications. How about I use what I have learned to create something that can be useful to me and other people?’” Leaders in the tech industry believe that Ogunnubi’s creation speaks volumes about the importance of racial representation in tech. Google Program Manager Aniedi Udo-Obong says Ogunnubi’s journey will encourage other Black children to follow in her footsteps. “I’m impressed with Tomisin’s app for two reasons. I prefer to see products in whatever state they are than to hear about the most brilliant idea. I like the fact that someone hatched an idea in their head and was able to bring it to fruition and complete it,” he said. He also added that there is a need for more STEM education initiatives in Nigeria stating that the country is “going to be left behind if we don’t get our own children learning at the same rate with the same tools and technologies that their contemporaries in other countries have.” Many educational institutions and non-profits are putting the focus on STEM education. Black Girls CODE, a non-profit organization dedicated to creating career pathways for young women of color in the tech industry, announced the development of a technology exploration lab in New York City.
