Shailene Woodley is still saving the oceans…one pussy dance at a time.. This is some weirdness weirding me out. A dance video featuring all of her bikini clad friends, set to some song that I guess is a trendy song…but that I’ve never heard before cuz I am old. I assume that this is her TIKTOK as that is the new platform that matters on social media and it is th new platform for talent to rise to the top and end up on YOUTUBE making 100 million dollars a year… Just a weirdly shot boat video – doing her activism of Plastics in the Ocean, despite the real enemy in the Plastics war is big business, not the public deciding to not use single use plastic…that’ll show them….since ocean pollution is made up of 1% single use plastic and 99% plastics from other industries….know your enemy people. But I get it – don’t buy anything with plastic, and convince everyone you know to do the same, and the world will still produce as much plastic, and put that plastic in everything, cuz the individual will always lose to big business. NOT TO MENTION…America is a big polluter and all, but there are many other countries producing their own pollution and basically we need to accept the world is going to implode – one plastic straw at a time. A tlanta-bred rapper T.I. tragically lost his sister Precious Harris in February, but he is turning his pain into something positive and ensuring that her legacy is kept alive through the creation of a scholarship fund. According to NBC News T.I.—whose real name is Clifford Harris —recently awarded a college student with $25,000 to put towards her education. Rapper T.I. is keeping the memory of his late sister alive by awarding an Arkansas college student and single mother a $25,000 scholarship. https://t.co/JVbR44KUQL — NBC News (@NBCNews) May 10, 2019 The Precious Chapman Scholarship is a collaborative effort between Harris, the United Negro College Fund, and VH1. Tierani Scott —a college junior who attends Philander Smith College in Arkansas—was awarded with the scholarship during VH1’s Dear Mama: A Love Letter to Mom special. Scott, who is a single mother, exudes excellence academically and in her personal life. She serves as the president of her class, has an outstanding grade point average, and leads a group called Queen Women’s Empowerment Organization all while balancing motherhood. She majors in sociology. Harris said that he wanted to select a recipient who embodied the same values as his late sister. “This year’s recipient is like my beloved sister,” he said. “It is our hope that this scholarship will help her continue on her path to do great things in her future.” Philanthropy is nothing new to Harris. He has continually utilized his platform as an avenue to give back. In April he teamed up with Scrapp Deleon and the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church to bail out non-violent offenders in time for Easter. Earlier this year he was honored by the Georgia Senate for his dedication to bettering the Atlanta community. “So many times, our answer to fixing things is “I’m gonna make some money and leave all these people behind.” There’s rarely an intent to get rich and make where you came from better for generations to come,” he said in an interview with Inc. “It’s extremely ambitious, but I’ve worked myself to a place where I should be the one leading the charge. In my mind, that’s what it means to be king.” SEE ALSO: T.I. Teams Up With Georgia Church To Bail Out Nonviolent Offenders For Easter Georgia Senate Honors T.I. N BA star LeBron James has made major strides both on and off the court in 2018. Not only did we watch James lead his former team the Cleveland Cavaliers to the NBA finals, but we’ve also witnessed him evolve into a fierce advocate for social justice. His accomplishments this year garnered him The Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year Award, ESPN reported. LeBron James named AP male athlete of the year for third time pic.twitter.com/7lEdZKYyW6 — Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) December 27, 2018 This is the third time that James has received the award, the news outlet writes. He was selected by U.S. editors and news directors. Aside from having a strong presence on the court where he averaged just shy of 30 points per game, he continuously used his platform to spread awareness about social issues and bring important conversations surrounding race in America to the forefront. He produced a powerful documentary dubbed Shut Up and Dribble that explored the history of Black athletes who have been outspoken about social and political issues. He created an unscripted series called The Shop that featured candid conversations with celebrities about culturally relevant topics. One of his biggest accomplishments this year was opening up the I Promise School for youth in his hometown of Akron. He joins a list of influential athletes—including Michael Jordan , Lance Armstrong , and Tiger Woods —who have all received the award at least three times. “In addition to being on everyone’s short list as one of the league’s all-time greatest players, LeBron is among the hardest-working players and is a thoughtful and impactful leader,” NBA commissioner Adam Silver told the news outlet. “He serves on the executive committee of the Players Association even as he builds an impressive media company of his own. And what’s most inspiring, and no surprise given his talent and focus, is how he’s done all of this while embracing his unique opportunity to positively impact communities in need.” James dedicated the award to the I Promise School. “Throughout my journey if I’m able to win anything, my name is getting the award but it’s more than that,” he said in a statement, according to Sports Illustrated . “It’s everybody that I try to inspire. It’s my teammates and it’s my city, where I come from. It’s my kids and my school so it’s never about me.” This accolade comes just weeks after it was announced that James’ Equality Sneakers will be featured in an exhibition at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. C hicago-bred music artist Chance the Rapper has continually lent his voice and resources in an effort to overcome some of the most pressing issues that the Black community is faced with today. The latest cause that the “No Problem” rapper is supporting is the fight for adequate mental health care in his hometown, WSBT22 reported. Chance the Rapper giving one million dollars to boost mental health services https://t.co/6HlKeFBWuV — 13WHAM (@13WHAM) October 5, 2018 Chance—whose real name is Chancelor Bennett—announced that he will be donating $1 million to better the mental health care resources in Chicago, the news outlet writes. He shared the news during a summit that his organization SocialWorks hosted on Thursday. There is often a stigma surrounding mental health amongst African Americans, and Bennet is aiming to change that narrative. As part of his six-figure donation, six mental health care facilities in the Cook County area will receive grants that are worth $100,000. His non-profit—which focuses on educating and empowering the youth through civic engagement and the arts—will also launch a new program dubbed “My State of Mind” that will make mental health treatment more accessible for those battling mental illness. Additionally, Bennett has pledged to donate more money to 20 Chicago Public Schools. Mental health is something that the rapper has personally battled with. In 2017, he publicly spoke about his struggles with anxiety. “Anxiety is now something that I’m just getting exposed to, it’s a big conversation and idea that I’m getting introduced to now,” he said in an interview, according to NME . “For a long time that wasn’t a thing that we talked about, I don’t remember people talking about it… when I was growing up… I’m starting to get a better understanding of that part of my life.” Several celebrities are launching initiatives that are centered on mental health and overall wellness. In August, actress Taraji P. Henson announced that she was launching a non-profit organization that is designed to provide resources for individuals battling with mental illness. SEE ALSO: Taraji P. Last week, the food world lost a true icon when Anthony Bourdain was found dead of an apparent suicide in a hotel room in France. He was 61 years old. Days later, details about the events surrounding Bourdain’s death are slowly beginning to trickle in, but the question of what could have driven one of the most widely-envied men on the planet to take his own life remains unanswered. Fans and media outlets were quick to point out some unusual social media activity from Bourdain’s longtime girlfriend, Asia Argento, in the hours before the news of his passing became public knowledge. An image in which the actress is seen wearing a shirt that reads “F-ck Off,” coupled with photos of Argento apparently vacationing with a male friend in France prompted a widespread theory that Bourdain was distraught over relationship problems. In the final months of his life, Bourdain was an outspoken advocate of the #MeToo movement, and his activism brought him close to some of the most high-profile victims of sexual harassment in Hollywood, including the actress Rose McGowan. Bourdain and McGowan quickly became close friends, and today, she published an open letter in which she addresses both his death and the rumors about his alleged relationship troubles. “Sitting across from me is the remarkable human and brave survivor, Asia Argento, who has been through more than most could stand, and yet stand she does,” the letter reads. “She stood up to her monster rapist and now she has to stand up to yet another monster, suicide. The suicide of her beloved lover and ally, Anthony Bourdain.” McGowan goes on to claim that Bourdain and Argento were in an open relationship, and she implies he would not have been upset by the sight of Argento with another man: “Anthony and Asia had a free relationship, they loved without borders of traditional relationships, and they established the parameters of their relationship early on,” McGowan states. “Asia is a free bird, and so was Anthony. Was. Such a terrible word to write,” she adds. “I’ve heard from many that the past two years they were together were some of his happiest and that should give us all solace.” She later states: “It is in no way fair or acceptable to blame her or anyone else, not even Anthony.” McGowan says she’s angry about her friend’s death, but she also pleads for sympathy from those who feel that he took his own life out of selfishness or a lack of concern for his loved ones. Shortly after learning of Bourdain’s death, Argento addressed the matter on Instagram, writing: “His brilliant, fearless spirit touched and inspired so many, and his generosity knew no bounds. He was my love, my rock, my protector. I am beyond devastated. My thoughts are with his family. I would ask that you respect their privacy and mine.” We’ll have further details on this developing story as more information becomes available. Will we rally together again and help Barack gain a second term ? The new two-part special will give us an in-depth, behind the scenes look into the activism that many in our community choose to do; taking the time to help spread the word and encourage folks to vote: BET News has partnered with the Brick City TV producers Marc Levin and Mark Benjamin, (producers of the Peabody Award-winning and twice Emmy nominated series “Brick City”) and Emmy Award-winning and Academy Award nominated filmmaker Sam Pollard (“Slavery By Another Name” and “Four Little Girls”) to produce a two-part news documentary, “SECOND COMING?: Will Black America Decide the 2012 Election.” The documentary follows a diverse constellation of agents of political change and activism through the 2012 election cycle. Obama surrogate Kerry Washington, Usher, Samuel L. Jackson, Reverend Al Sharpton, Reverend. Jesse Jackson, Eve, Ice Cube, Yolanda Adams, pollster Cornell Belcher, Common, Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, The RZA, Salt N Pepa, DMX, Redman, Cam’ron, Bun B, Joyful Drake, Warren G and Brandon & Lorielle Broussard, the young activists behind “Barack The Vote.” Narrated by S. Epatha Merkerson the series will also focus on grassroots activists in battleground states Tarsha Williams, Charles Perry, Pastor Jamal Bryant and others who will take viewers behind the scenes of their effort to mobilize the black community to vote in another historic Presidential election. Premiering Friday October 19 & Friday October 26 at 9 PM ET/PT, the character-driven series, rich with political insight and actuality, will marry journalism and reality television in a seminal effort to capture the African-American perspective on the 2012 elections in all its complexity. The producers capture both consensus and division among black organizers, celebrities and operatives as they wrestle with the process of making change and mobilizing voters to impact the Presidential race. The docu-series will follow behind-the-scenes efforts to mobilize the black vote against the backdrop of urban youth violence, the debate over gay marriage, and the economic crisis. “This groundbreaking series is a must see for the BET audience.” Said Executive Producer Sam Pollard “The series digs deep and hits hard and is a must see for viewers in understanding how they can’t just be bystanders but fully engaged in this historic election.” We hope this series will help shed some light on many of the political issues that effect our community and will bring back that sense of hope we’ve lost since 2008′s close race. No matter what your stance is on gay marriage, women’s rights, the economy, etc., we’re pretty sure Robney isn’t going to suddenly relate to us if he wins come November. Images via WENN
