When The CSI Checks Stop Coming In: TV Star Gary Dourdan Files For Bankruptcy After Owing Over $1 Million To Collectors

Pay yo damn bills ! Gary Dourdan Files For Bankruptcy Via TMZ reports : On this episode of “TMZ: Bankruptcy Scene Investigators” … former “CSI” star Gary Dourdan throws in the towel and files for Chapter 11. The troubled actor filed papers on August 30th — and according to the docs, has a little over $1.8 mil in assets … but is in the hole to his creditors to the tune of $1.73 mil. A large chunk of that debt — $1,689,704 million — is owed to various banks, including Union Bank, which apparently holds the mortgage on his home that may be in default. As for his assets — $200 cash, $3k in a bank account, $4k in furniture, $200 worth of books, $1,500 in clothes, $500 in watches … oh and a 2006 Dodge Charger worth $7,000. Here’s the kicker … Gary says his disposable income is only $321 a month … claiming his bills ($14,562 a month) eat up just about all of the $14,883 he pulls in on average. The good news … the actor says he “anticipates major acting roles” in the future … which can help pay off his debt. The end. Case solved, pay yo bills Gary.

Kat Dennings to Play One of Two Broke Girls for CBS

Here at Movieline HQ, we’re unabashed Kat Dennings supporters — and speaking for myself, that means even the atrocious-looking Thor will probably get my disposable income — so the news that the Nick and Norah star is potentially headed to weekly television glory is a great way to close out the week. Dennings has been cast in the Michael Patrick King/Whitney Cummings-produced CBS pilot Two Broke Girls as Max, the broke-r of the two lead females who work at a Brooklyn diner while trying to raise cash for their big business venture. Sounds like How to Make It In America but awesome. [ Deadline ]

Are Disposable eReaders In Our Future?

Image via University of Cincinnati Scientists at University of Cincinnati have figured out how to use a plain old sheet of paper as a surface for electrowetting, the technology behind e-paper such as used in e-readers and similar devices. It sounds like a dream come true because, as the researchers point out, it reduces device complexity and cost. However, it could be a huge concern since it may very well result in “disposable” one-time-use electronics. … Read the full story on TreeHugger

$27,500 for Daniel Faraday’s Journal, and 4 Other Humongous Overbids at the Lost Auction

As someone who once purchased the Criterion Collection edition of The Rock , it’s hard for me to complain about how people spend their disposable (and geeky) income, but: Man . Bids flew fast and furious at this weekend’s infamous Lost auction , and some — like the $15,000 spent on the pilot script signed by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof — seemed reasonable. Others, though… well, let’s just say perhaps a bit of buyer’s remorse is happening at this very moment. Ahead, the five biggest overbids from the Lost auction.

Avatar Breaks Even More Records

After setting the record for most Blu-ray discs sold in a single day , the fact that Avatar is now the biggest selling Blu-ray of all-time should surprise exactly no one. In just four days, the highest grossing movie ever sold a ridiculous 2.7 million Blu-ray discs, which is more than previous record holder, The Dark Knight , sold in 16 months. Of course all these records beg the question: If it weren’t Avatar , what would people have spent their disposable income on during the past four months? [ LAT /Company Town ]
