New Apple iPhone 7 Slogan Translates To Phallic Phrase In Cantonese Being a global company and all, Apple really might wanna consider how their marketing will be received in other countries… Via DailyMail Apple’s ‘This is 7’ slogan for its new iPhone 7 has a rather unfortunate translation in Hong Kong. Smartphone users have been mocking the technology firm’s latest marketing line because it sounds just like ‘This is penis’ in Cantonese. China is one of Apple’s biggest markets, but the translations for its new slogan differ drastically across mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. While mainlanders and Taiwanese people predominantly speak Mandarin, Hong Kong dwellers typically converse in Cantonese, which is why the comical translation only affects them. Suffice to say, social media users in Hong Kong are LMFAO’ing ‘The slogan “7, is here” in China is the best. They got so many “7”s,’ said one Facebook user. ‘Why didn’t people say anything during the launch of Windows 7?’ queried another. ‘How about iPhone 7 Plus? Wow… David Oyelowo Felt The Call of God For His Role in ‘Selma’ David Oyelowo almost didn’t snag the role of Dr. Martin Luther King in ‘Selma,’ but what he felt was a force from above forced him to keep gunning for the part. Via JustJared : David Oyelowo hits the carpet while attending the 2015 National Board of Review Awards Gala held at Cipriani 42nd Street on Tuesday (January 6) in New York City. The 38-year-old English actor was in attendance to support his movie Selma, which won the NBR Freedom of Expression Award. Also attending the event were David‘s Selma co-star Common and director Ava DuVernay, as well as Top Five‘s Chris Rock. David recently opened up about his need to star in the critically acclaimed film. “When I first read the script in 2007, I wouldn’t cast me as Dr. King, between being English and at that point I’ve done very few American movies, but I felt a call of God to do this thing,” he said. Jimmy Iovine & Dr. Dre Sued For “Stealing” Beats Technology Looks like those amazing Christmas bonuses Dr. Dre gave his legal team are about to come in extra handy. The rapper, along with business partner Jimmy Iovine, is being sued by Monster for stealing the technology for the wildly successful Beats audio brand and leaving Monster in the dust. Via Forbes : For audio cable company Monster, the wound that Beats Electronics left is years old but still stings like a fresh stab in the back. In a lawsuit filed in San Mateo County Superior Court Tuesday, Monster CEO Noel Lee said that his company was betrayed by Beats Electronics, the company behind “Beats By Dr. Dre” headphones, when the two companies parted ways in 2012, and that Beats has gone on to try to erase Monster’s contribution to its headphones. The suit claims that rapper Andre “ Dr. Dre” Young and music mogul Jimmy Iovine conspired to steal the audio engineering that Monster built for the Beats headphones, which were a joint project. The suit alleges that Monster, not Beats, was primarily responsible for designing the headphones, and after Dre and Iovine severed ties with Monster, they tried to wipe away Monster’s role in Beats’ success. It adds that beyond Dre’s status as a celebrity, his “main contribution was to bless Monster’s headphones when he exclaimed: ‘That’s the s–t!’” While Monster was left trying to build a new product to compete with its own creation – and without the technology that Beats retained control of — Beats continued to succeed. In May, Apple AAPL -0.03% bought the company for $3 billion. Thanks to the sale, Dre walked away with an estimated $650 million before taxes in 2014, which rocketed him to the top of FORBES’ highest-earning musicians list for the year. Yikes! If this case gets proven in court, Dr. Dre might have to finally release that “Detox” album he’s been talking about for the past 15 years to make up for that $600 mil in lost cash…

In “Business Venture Sure To Fail” News: MC Hammer Is About To Compete With Google

MC Hammer is trying to make that super bread with his new search engine venture. MC Hammer, entertainer-turned-entrepreneur, demonstrated some of the capabilities of WIREDoo, which Hammer called both “Deep Search” and “Relationship Search,” at Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco on Wednesday. Hammer, cognizant of the presence of Google co-founder Sergay Brin in the audience, said that the technology isn’t meant to replace existing search, but to add value. Specifically, search queries add the notion of data relationships to results. For example a search of the word “car” might also come with the relationships to insurance, cost, specs, mileage, and who the driver will be. A search for “home” might also include relationships to community, schools, financing, insurance and so on. According to the people in attendance, Hammer’s site might actually be pretty useful and a viable contender for Google’s crown. Maybe Hammer will end up with more money than Jay-Z after all. Hey, anything is possible.

Clash of the Titans Sequel Will Be Converted to 3-D

In an interview with Cinematical , director Jonathan Liebesman said that his Clash of the Titans sequel (titled Wrath of the Titans ) would be given the post-conversion 3-D treatment, much like the derided first film. The difference? “I think what you have to remember is the first film was neither shot nor edited with 3D in mind,” said Liebesman. “[T]hey decided to convert it with six or seven weeks to go until release, which is insane; the technology was not there. That’s why we’re conceiving it from the start, from the ground up, in 3D, editing in 3D for 3D.” Sounds like a plan. My designer 3-D glasses are already on order. [ Cinematical ]
