Are people born gay?? Scientists Uncover Possible Source Of Homosexuality Ever wonder why some lesbians like to dress like men? Or why some gay men love wigs, makeup and high heels? Well, scientists claim the answer may lie answer in the genetics, or how the expression genes are controlled by “temporary switches” known as epi-marks… Via NY Daily News reports: “Transmission of sexually antagonistic epi-marks between generations is the most plausible evolutionary mechanism of the phenomenon of human homosexuality,” Sergey Gavrilets, the study’s co-author, said in a release. Researchers have long believed that sexual orientation had some hereditary component. However, scientists say that homosexuality, in terms of evolution, cannot be solely genetic, because the trait would eventually disappear given that homosexuals aren’t expected to reproduce. Epi-marks, on the other hand, are thought to have an evolutionary advantage that keeps them within the population. For instance, some epi-marks work to protect a female fetus from becoming too masculine if testosterone spikes in late pregnancy. “These epi-marks protect fathers and mothers from excess or underexposure to testosterone — when they carry over to opposite-sex offspring, it can cause the masculinization of females or the feminization of males,” William Rice, the study’s lead author, told U.S. News & World Report. Rice said that epi-marks are “highly variable” and only those that are especially strong would potentially lead to homosexual children. The evolutionary biologist said that while his theory still needs to be tested on parents and their children, it is the most plausible explanation so far. Basically sex-specific epi-marks are usually “erased” from generation to generation. So, a mother’s gender specific characteristics can be passed to a son. Politicians have long appropriated pop culture to lend their campaigns relevancy and catchy hooks, so it wasn’t unprecedented when Republican nominee Mitt Romney began using the popular Friday Night Lights catchphrase “Clear eyes, full heart, can’t lose” in his bid for the Presidency. That doesn’t mean filmmaker Peter Berg has to be happy about it. In an open letter to Romney, Berg — who directed 2004’s Friday Night Lights , adapted from H.G. Bissinger’s book about a small Texas town obsessed with football, and created its subsequent spin-off television series — slammed the former Governor of Massachusetts for using the now-famous FNL line. “Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series,” wrote Berg, who described the citation as plagiarism. Via EW : Governor Romney: I created the TV show “Friday Night Lights” and came up with the phrase “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose.” I was not thrilled when I saw that you have plagiarized this expression to support your campaign by using it on posters, your facebook page and as part of your stump speeches. Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series. The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and “Friday Night Lights” is in the character of Buddy Garrity — who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan. Your use of the expression falsely and inappropriately associates “Friday Night Lights” with the Romney/Ryan campaign. Mitt, we all wish you and your family all the best. We are grateful for your support of our beloved show, but we are not in any way affiliated with you or your campaign. Please come up with your own campaign slogan. Sincerely, Peter Berg. To be fair, President Obama ‘s campaign also used the slogan, albeit less overtly and on Tumblr . Gossip website Starfeine broke the news and obtained the photographic evidence via a snapshot of Cyrus headed to the hospital, holding the injured finger wrapped in gauze. “She cut her finger while cooking,” Cyrus’ rep told Us Weekly. “[She] had to get a few stitches. She’s doing fine.” Cyrus later tweeted an update about the incident via a back-and-forth Twitter conversation with fan site MileyCyrus.bz and let everyone know she was doing fine, aside from being peeved that paparazzi followed her to the hospital. “@MileyCyrusBz as you can tell by the horrible faces I’m making I obviously didn’t know they were there,” Cyrus tweeted in response to the paparazzi shots. “Pretty messed up following me to ER. I’m all stitched up & have on a splint so I’m good,” she added via a follow-up tweet . “As you can tell by my expression, didn’t feel so good. Curse u blender!” We’re not exactly sure what Cyrus was doing sticking her hands into a blender, but we’re happy she’s all stitched up and on the mend. Starfeine claimed the 19-year-old singer/actress was accompanied by a substantial support team on her trip to the emergency room.
