5 American (Or Canadian) Pop Stars Who Have Showed Off Their Spanish Chops With Latin Collaborations

Source: George Pimentel / Getty Drake has been the talk of the town all day since releasing a brand new track titled “Mia” with Bad Bunny . The up-tempo record features Aubrey singing in Spanish, as Bunny follows up with a long verse of his own. The visual, released simultaneously, sees both stars enjoying an evening block party, equipped with dancing, hookahs, and a game of dominoes. Bad Bunny feat Drake – “Mia” But 2018 is far from Drake’s first time teaming up with a Latin-American superstar. Back in 2013, Drizzy teamed up with former Aventura lead singer  Romeo Santos for “Odio,” in which the Canadian also showcased his Spanish singing skills. This initial collaboration was especially fitting following the lyrics from Drake’s 2011 smash hit “The Motto,” where he rapped, “Spanish girls love me like I’m Aventura.” What foreshadowing. Romeo Santos feat Drake – “Odio” Though Drake is known for his ability to “adapt” into other cultures like they’re his own, he’s not the first–and won’t be the last–to experiment with some bi-lingual singing skills. Let’s take a look at other huge stars who have crossed over into collaborations with Latin sensations. Before Romeo and Drake came Romeo and Usher .  Mr. Raymond doesn’t actually show off any bi-lingual chops on his track “Promise” from Romeo Santos’ 2011 album  Fórmula, Vol. 1 , but the collaboration was a big deal for both artists, nonetheless. Romeo Santos feat Usher – “Promise” We can’t talk about North American pop-stars crossing over without talking about Justin Bieber . The Canadian heartthrob hopping on the remix to Daddy Yankee  &  Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito” is probably the most successful Spanish crossover of all-time–and with the original video boasting 5.5 billion views on Youtube, it’s one of the most successful singles ever, in general. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat Justin Bieber – “Despacito (Remix)” Keeping it in the family, Luis Fonsi’s brother  Jean Rodriguez is actually the one who coached Beyoncé  on her Spanish chops before she hopped on J Balvin’s “Mi Gente.” Though the release of this song (and Bey’s involvement in it) had everybody freaking out, this wasn’t Mrs. Carter’s first time around the block. The superstar has made her fair share of Spanish remixes to her very own songs including “Si Yo Fuera Un Chico (If I Were a Boy),” “Oye (Listen),” and “Irreemplazable (Irreplaceable).” J Balvin & Willy William feat Beyoncé- “Mi Gente” Though it wasn’t a collaboration with a Latin musician, Kendrick Lamar paid tribute to his Los Angeles roots by rapping his a$$ off en Español for his feature on labelmate Schoolboy Q ‘s track “Collard Greens.” Schoolboy Q feat Kendrick Lamar – “Collard Greens” Those five aren’t the only North American artists to dabble in some Spanish, check out these honorable mentions to get well-versed in the bi-lingual world of American music. Justin Bieber’s Next Album Is ‘Ridiculous’

Manager Scooter Braun tweets from studio where singer is working on Believe. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel / WireImage With Justin Bieber in full-on album recording mode, his longtime manager, Scooter Braun, has heard just what the teen star is up to and wants everyone to know that Believe is a game-changer for the singer. “Wow!! In the studio with @justinbieber and #Believe is going to be ridiculous!!!” he tweeted about the 17-year-old’s 2012 release. Braun’s message came the same day that Bieber announced that he’s officially working on the project. “Start recording full time for #BELIEVE today. let the fun begin! #newMusic,” he tweeted on Tuesday, hours later adding, “#studio.” But it seems that he’ll take a break to hit up the Consumer Electronics Show, which is currently under way in Las Vegas. “Gonna see what is coming next. #gadgetNERD,” he proclaimed. While Bieber has said that he wants his next release to recall Justin Timberlake’s Future Sex/Love Sounds sonically, in a recent interview with V magazine, he noted that what he’ll be singing is a bit more PG than the topics Timberlake covered on that album. “I’m not going to try to conform to what people want me to be or go out there and start partying, have people see me with alcohol. I want to do it at my own pace,” Bieber says in the issue. “I don’t want to start singing about things like sex, drugs and swearing. I’m into love, and maybe I’ll get more into making love when I’m older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody.” Bieber may not want to get too graphic on this album, but vocal producer Kuk Harrell did note to MTV News that he will be maturing on it in his own way. “The only conversation we’ve had about Justin’s album that we’re about to do is it’s really important that it’s the proper transition because we’ve seen him [with] ‘Baby,’ now we’re watching him grow up,” said Harrell, who also worked with the singer on Under the Mistletoe. “And we can’t just throw him into the adult game right away. It has to be the proper transition. There’s a record in between.” Are you looking forward to Justin’s next album? Tell us on our Facebook page! Justin Bieber Kicks Off New Year With New Track

Pop star debuts ‘Happy New Year,’ a swaggerfied slow jam featuring Jaden Smith. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel / WireImage Justin Bieber isn’t new to creating holiday songs using his new-millennium, R&B swagger, as evidenced on his Christmas album, Under The Mistletoe . And this weekend, he gave New Year’s a try. The singer tweeted a New Year’s-themed track, “Happy New Year,” which features his pal Jaden Smith rapping. The slow jam is certainly swaggerfied but also reflective, featuring lyrics that both play up the singer’s pop-star image and look ahead to a more hopeful year. “I’m gonna make your cheeks red when I kiss your neck/Girl I’m never leavin’ ’cause you are the best baby,” he sings. “I wanna give you everything/Never feel ’cause girl you’re coming home with me.” In a spoken breakdown, he says, “2012 is the year to be better, stronger and closer to the people around you. So grab someone special, and just, you know.” Smith also shows some bad-boy personality and proves that rapping runs in the Smith DNA. He raps, ” ‘Cause 2012 is the year of the love/And we gon’ start it off/We can get a plane today and get a car toma’/We don’t do it small at all/No girl tell me what I gotta to do/I can be the beat that you rockin’ to/I can do anything, nothing is impossible, especially with you girl/And I never need a new girl/This love is true girl/Aye welcome to the crew girl.” Not only was Bieber gracing fans with new tracks over the weekend, but he also took the stage during “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2012” in Times Square, not far from where his lady love Selena Gomez was hosting “NYE in NYC 2012.” The twosome later partied together at Glass House, E! News reports. A source says, “He…danced with Selena, showing off, picking her up and swinging her around like it was ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ ” Bieber recently debuted another track “Be Alright,” during his holiday special, “Justin Bieber: Home For The Holidays.” He’s expected to drop his new album, Believe , later this year. Demi Lovato Heads Back To Work

‘First day back to working,’ singer tweets, without revealing details of project. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images Demi Lovato is ready to work again. The star, who recently checked out of a treatment center after dealing with personal issues, tweeted on Tuesday that she’s back to doing something, without revealing what her next big gig is. “First day back to working. I can’t wait to share with you guys what I’m doing today,” she wrote on Twitter . “It’s a big day for me. So excited! I love you all!!!” While she didn’t say what she was doing, she did reveal whom she was doing it with. “Wow what a very long but successful day today!! I’m SO blessed to have my friend @Alexavega with me ALL day for support!” she wrote, tweeting a photo of her and the “Spy Kids” star together. “Seriously so blessed for the friends in my life. Love them, AND love you guys too!!” Her reps remained mum on what the project is when contacted by MTV News, but E! News reports that Disney reps confirmed that Lovato is not back on the “Sonny With a Chance” set. Earlier this month, Lovato teased a new project in a similarly mysterious way, not getting into the specifics of what she was planning next. “I wanted to let you guys know that I’m excited to get back to work. I can’t wait to tell you guys what the future holds,” she said. “I can’t wait to see you in person. I love you all and I couldn’t have done this without you.” In addition to the new gig, Lovato recently revealed some new body art. “The journey that I went through and the support of my fans was so meaningful to me that I wanted to thank my fans in a way that I know can never be forgotten,” the explained. “So I went ahead and I got a little heart tattoo on my wrist. “It’s something that my fans were actually drawing on their wrists while I was still in treatment. Some people even got tattoos of it, so I wanted to show you guys that I will never forget the support that you guys gave me,” Lovato added.
