Frank Ocean Sued Over "Lost" By Producer

Frank Ocean is being sued. No, not by Chris Brown . Producer Micah Otano claims he was deprived of credit for work on Ocean’s hit “Lost,” which was featured on his Grammy-winning album channel Orange . Frank Ocean – Lost Otano citeds breach of contract, fraud in the inducement, rescission and restitution, copyright infringement and declaratory relief in his suit against Ocean. He insists he co-created the song upon which “Lost” is based and “solely performed the lead synthesizer parts on ‘Daylight’ as well as piano and other parts.” The lawsuit further states that in joint ownership of the track, Otano and producer Malay (also named in the suit) agreed on co-producer credit for it. Unfortunately, Otano says “Malay did just that, stealing Otano’s performances, passing them off as his own, and using them on the Frank Ocean song.” Def Jam and Universal Music Group are also named in the lawsuit against Frank Ocean , one of the breakout hip-hop stars of 2012 and 2013.

Carrie Underwood As Maria Von Trapp?! Sound Off On NBC’s ‘Sound Of Music’ Redo

Carrie Underwood may be a talented, Grammy-winning (heck, everything-winning) country music superstar and the perky, blonde success story that justifies American Idol ‘s iron grip on pop culture — but can she make the hills come alive as Maria von Trapp in NBC’s Sound of Music ? That’s what Chicago & Hairspray producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron must believe, because the pair (who are also producing the upcoming Oscars telecast ) aren’t just tapping the reigning Queen of Country to fill Julie Andrews’ iconic clogs, they’re also taking the ballsy step of doing it in a live broadcast. A live broadcast: That rare beast so prevalent in the early days of television when performers didn’t need auto-tune and could pull off the highwire act of beaming their performance into millions of homes as it happened, flubs and all. “Speaking for everyone at NBC, we couldn’t be happier to have the gifted Carrie Underwood take up the mantle of the great Maria von Trapp,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt (via THR ). “She was an iconic woman who will now be played by an iconic artist.” Maybe it’s the shock of hearing that anyone would dare remake one of the greatest musicals of all time — or that Underwood, who’s certainly built an empire for herself cobbled together from platinum-selling albums and songs about keying her boyfriend’s car and guest appearances on How I Met Your Mother , has the hubris to say, Yes, I can be the Julie freaking Andrews of a new generation — but Underwood as the wide-eyed nun fleeing Nazis in the Swiss Alps doesn’t quite compute. Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp sounds about as right as Nick Jonas as Marius in Les Miserables . (Then again, Zadan and Meron cast Jonas as a Broadway superstar on NBC’s Smash , so… yeah.) [Watch Underwood perform “The Sound of Music” on CBS, h/t @gerradhall.] What do you think of Underwood as Maria, and NBC’s holiday live-broadcast remake of The Sound of Music ? Sound off below, my little lonely goatherds? [ THR ] Follow Jen Yamato on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Rage Against the Machine: Raging Against Paul Ryan!

Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan has cited Rage Against the Machine as one of his favorite bands in a number of interviews. According to band member Tom Morello, the admiration is far from mutual. In a blistering Rolling Stone op-ed , Morello absolutely BLASTS Mitt Romney’s VP pick as “the embodiment of the machine our music rages against.” Morello compares Ryan’s appreciation of RATM to N.J. Gov. Chris Christie’s liking for Bruce Springsteen … or Charles Manson’s love for The Beatles. Painting him as “antithetical” to progress, Morello lambasts the Congressman’s “guiding vision of shifting revenue more radically to the one percent.” He goes on to observe that Paul Ryan has plenty of “rage,” but claims it’s “A rage against women, a rage against immigrants, a rage against workers, a rage against gays, a rage against the poor, a rage against the environment.” Ouch. The Grammy-winning guitarist has a history of outspoken activism, but he’s far from alone in wanting to separate his music from the GOP ticket. Wednesday, Silversun Pickups tore into Mitt Romney for playing their hit “Panic Switch” at an event … and joked that the title symbolizes his campaign. Sorry, Mitt and Paul. Ty Murray’s Baby Son Kase Townes picture

On July 11, the couple welcomed son Kase Townes after an unexpected emergency c-section that left the new parents slightly shaken, but happy to end up with their “mellow and chill” baby boy. “They always say, ‘Make a plan and God laughs,’ right?” says the Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, 37. “We wanted a natural birth and I was committed to that. ‘Green Lantern’ Tops Weekend Box Office

But Ryan Reynolds’ Hal Jordan failed to gather as much green as observers may have hoped. By Ryan J. Downey Ryan Reynolds in “Green Lantern” Photo: Warner Bros. The big-screen debut of DC Comics’ “emerald knight” may have been #1 at the box-office over the weekend but it failed to gather as much green as most observers had hoped. “Green Lantern” generated an estimated $52.6 million in its debut weekend, less than the opening numbers for superhero flicks “Thor” and “X-Men: First Class” earlier this year. The heavily marketed potential franchise starter, which stars Ryan Reynolds, cost an estimated $200 million to produce. To put the numbers in perspective, fewer people saw “Green Lantern” on opening weekend than the film adaptations of lesser known superheroes like “Daredevil” and “Ghost Rider.” And critics were not kind to the film. “Green Lantern is a new primer on how not to make a comic book movie … flat FX, smirky acting, clunky writing and clueless direction,” Rolling Stone wrote. “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” was also something of a disappointment relative to previous Jim Carrey comedies. The film, based on the classic book of the same name, opened with $18.2 million, which wasn’t enough to beat last week’s #1 movie, “Super 8.” J.J. Abrams’ throwback homage to ’80s movies like “E.T.” earned another $21.2 million in its second weekend for a $72.7 million total. “X-Men: First Class,” was #4 over the weekend with $11.5 million for a $199.9 million total. While the comic flick’s numbers are lower than most of the movies in the mutant-hero franchise, the reboot/prequel hybrid has enjoyed the best critical response for an “X-Men” movie since “X2.” “The Hangover 2” rounded out the top five with $9.6 million for a $232.6 million total. And this weekend’s new releases include Disney/Pixar’s “Cars 2” and the Cameron Diaz comedy “Bad Teacher.” Michael Bay’s “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” follows on Wednesday, June 29. Amy Winehouse Cancels Dates After Disastrous Belgrade Show

Despite recent trip to rehab, singer seemed intoxicated at Serbian music fest. By Gil Kaufman Amy Winehouse (file) Photo: Getty Images/ Dave Hogan Even after going to rehab, troubled singer Amy Winehouse can’t seem to get her act together. The 27-year-old, who has been plagued by substance abuse issues for much of her career, has canceled a series of European appearances after a disastrous kick-off show on Saturday at Belgrade, Serbia’s Forest Fest. Appearing unsteady on her feet and seemingly drunk — after reportedly showing up more than an hour late — Winehouse repeatedly left the stage during the 90-minute performance, seemed to forget the lyrics to many of her songs, dropped the mic, clutched at her stomach and face at points and reached out to hug her bandmates as fans booed the woozy set. To make matters worse, she addressed the disgruntled crowd of 20,000 by saying, “Hello, Athens.” Video of the set shows Winehouse to be glassy-eyed and nervous as catcalls interrupt her erratic vocals during what the local Serbian press described as a “scandal” and a “disaster.” On Sunday, Winehouse canceled planned appearances at festivals in Turkey and Greece. “Despite feeling sure that she wanted to fulfill these commitments, she has agreed with management that she cannot perform to the best of her ability and will return home,” her spokesperson explained in a statement. “She would like to apologize to fans expecting to see her at the shows but feels that this is the right thing to do.” The disastrous show came just weeks after Winehouse entered an alcohol rehab program, according to People, and British reports claimed that alcohol had been banned from the 12-date tour. The singer has reportedly been working on the follow-up to her Grammy-winning 2006 breakthrough, Back to Black, but no release date has been announced for the disc. Related Artists Amy Winehouse
