Read more from the original source:

W hile Democrats did not get the blue wave they hoped for during yesterday’s midterm elections, there were some major wins such as regaining control of the House of Representatives. However, there are 19 wins that not enough people are celebrating — 19 Black women who ran for judicial seats in Harris County, Texas won last night. This is the biggest victory for Black women in the county’s history. See Also: Bill Cosby Sentenced To 3 To 10 Years In Prison For Sexual Assault Conviction The women call themselves the #Houston19. Back in August , one wrote on Facebook, “I’ve waited for the reveal of this photo of 19 judicial candidates for several weeks — 19 Black women running for judge in Harris County, Houston, TX. This entire time I’ve thought of what I’d say the day we were able to share this moment in history with everyone. But really I’m humbled. Never did I imagine that the day I decided to run to be judge, I’d become a part of a club of phenomenal Black women, sisters-in-law, gifted, brilliant, strong — everything I hope to be!” See the beautiful photo below: Now they are officially winners. Sandra Peake, Judge Ramona Frankin, Germaine Tanner, Angela Graves-Harrington, Cassandra Hollerman, Tonya Jones, Dedra Davis, LaShawn A. Williams, Latosha Lewis Payne, Linda M. Dunson, Toria J. Finch, Erica Hughes, Lucia G. Bates, Ronnisha Bowman, Michelle Moore, Sharon Burney, Shannon Baldwin and Lori Chambers Gray were all elected, and mostly by double digits. A huge congratulations and a reason to celebrate last night. That said, we are still pushing for every vote in Georgia to be counted so the true victor of the gubernatorial contest can rise up—not the won who is claiming a win because of voter suppression. Andrew Gillum Reportedly Has Trump Scrambling In Last-Ditch Move For DeSantis

Follow this link:

A fter  Andrew Gillum ‘s recent streak of victories in Florida’s gubernatorial race, Trump has reportedly planned to make last-ditch pleas for votes for controversial GOP candidates. Apparently, Trump’s aggressive strategy comes as his team fears a potential election wipeout with Republicans in the state that could hurt his re-election campaign. RELATED: 5 Takeaways From Andrew Gillum’s Florida Debate Rematch Against Ron DeSantis The president will try several things to defend his buddies, Senate candidate Rick Scott and Ron DeSantis , the GOP Florida gubernatorial nominee who Gillum bested in recent debates. Trump is scheduled to visit the state at least twice, sources shared with Politico . Floridians who haven’t cast absentee ballots will also receive presidential text messages, and discussions are underway about overrunning the state with robocalls from Trump. GOP members and Trump’s administration know that Florida is a key swing state and that early voting is gaining steam. They also presumably recognize that DeSantis has been eyed as an early bet to lose the high-profile governor race by several social media users. The White House is mounting a political rescue mission in Florida, fearing a wipeout in the key swing state next month could damage Trump’s reelection hopes https://t.co/O6DuOQKimd — POLITICO (@politico) October 26, 2018 Both DeSantis and Scott are trailing their Democratic rivals, according to recent surveys reported by Politico. Perhaps Trump and GOP members realize what a wipeout would mean for them, especially if Gillum, Tallahassee’s current mayor, wins the gubernatorial race. A Gillum victory, undoubtedly, would make a huge statement for candidates of color and be a celebrated win among African Americans. As governor, Gillum would also be able to drum up support for the eventual Democratic nominee for the 2020 presidential race. As the official midterm election date gets closer, Democratic efforts will likely increase to mobilize base voters. CNN Panel Cracks Up At Kanye West’s Coon Campfire With President Trump

Source: SAUL LOEB / Getty News outlets looking for any reason to spin Kanye West ‘s meeting with President Donald Trump as something important led to a hilarious moment last night (Oct. 10) on CNN . Former South Carolina state representative Bakari Sellers threw some shots at Token Yeezy’s visit with the Orange Overlord of Chaos, which caused fellow panelist Scott Jennings, who is white, to react with his eyebrows that had host Don Lemon cracking up. Mediate reports : A CNN panelist Tuesday night called Kanye West “the token Negro of the Trump Administration.” The remark was as part of a discussion about the news that West will meet with Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday — a visit which comes after the rapper’s most recent shows of support for the president. CNN’s Don Lemon asked his panel — which featured liberal commentator Bakari Sellers, conservative commentator Tara Setmayer, and conservative commentator Scott Jennings — for their take on whether this lunch will be about policy or celebrity photo-ops. The outlet points at Sellers saying, “Kanye West is what happens when Negroes don’t read,” with Setmayer explaining to Jennings it was a reference to a Chris Rock joke. Setmayer then made a reference to Dave Chappelle’s racial draft skit in regards to West, which Jennings excitedly said he knew of as an apparent fan of the show. Lemon gamely tried to hold his composure although he was less successful than some may have hoped. Sellers has been catching some backlash online too, going toe-to-toe with fellow Trump broom pusher Candace Owens. Oh Candace, bless your heart. Kanye is what happens when negroes don’t read. He actually admittedly chooses not to. We could have a conversation about anti-intellectualism, CJ reform or any topic I covered last night, but your Trump talking points might not be well equipped. https://t.co/SzfU6Bjvji — Bakari Sellers (@Bakari_Sellers) October 10, 2018 Watch the CNN clip below. . @Bakari_Sellers : “My issue with Kanye West is quite simple — is that anti-intellectualism simply isn't cool.” https://t.co/FVeCRODqXl pic.twitter.com/rhH5nWSubZ — CNN Tonight (@CNNTonight) October 10, 2018 — Photo: Getty

Gillum Takes High Road During Hurricane Michael While GOP Throws Low Blows

F lorida’s GOP party will likely have to lick their wounds after Andrew Gillum has begun fighting back against their attack ads. Gillum had reportedly issued a cease-and-desist letter to TV stations to stop airing messages from Rob DeSantis , his Republican opponent for the state’s governor race, after suspending his campaign amid Hurricane Michael . RELATED:  Andrew Gillum Suspending Campaign Activity But For All The Right Reasons Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, had turned his attention to the tropical storm, which made landfall on Wednesday. However, he found himself on the receiving end of ads that criticized him for his handling of 2016’s Hurricane Hermine, which caused power outages in Tallahassee. The state’s GOP party had begun running the ads as Michael hit the ground, with DeSantis’ campaign being primarily responsible for the ads, Think Progress reported. Andrew Gillum's campaign for Florida governor has sent a cease-and-desist letter to TV stations airing his opponent's attack ad—all while the dangerous #TropicalStormMichael bore down on the state https://t.co/cWUQvVxngR — The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast) October 11, 2018 It’s unusual for political candidates to continue campaigning during natural disasters, however, it’s not impossible. There have also been ads supporting DeSantis that continued to play on Wednesday, reaching residents within the hurricane’s ground zero. Gillum has called out the decision to air the ads at such a sensitive time and in the middle of a potentially life-threatening storm. “We can’t recall a time where candidates for statewide office have not pulled down negative ads during hurricane season,” the gubernatorial candidate said to MSNBC. “You’ve got a whole region of our state, where folks are fleeing for their lives, anticipating what is a life-threatening event impacting this state. I again would encourage my opponent to just subside with the politics.” Florida’s Republican Party decided to walk back the ads, they said on Wednesday, according to  Politico . The decision, however, came after former Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administrator and Florida Emergency Management Director Craig Fugate asked  the state’s candidates to stop running negative ads. Many in the nation have agreed that the focus should be on residents during Hurricane Michael, not on campaign ads.
