What seemed to begin as a coming out speech touched on celebrity culture, privacy, Honey Boo Boo, Mel Gibson , her ex-partner Cydney Bernard and their children, and had some speculating she was talking retirement (a suggestion she refuted backstage). The 23rd Bond pic opened October 26 in Britain and was its biggest 2-D opening weekend, Deadline reports . Jodie Foster to Receive Golden Globes’ Lifetime Achievement Award The Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. said it will give the two-time Oscar and Globes winner its Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 70th annual Golden Globes ceremony on January 13th, Huffington Post reports . Peter Jackson Makes Cameo in Airline Safety Video Peter Jackson has made a cameo appearance in the on board safety film for Air New Zealand. The airline’s new safety video was made as an ode to Jackson’s upcoming Hobbit films, BBC reports . Specialty Release Preview: The Bay , A Late Quartet , Jack and Diane , This Must Be the Place Box office repercussions of Hurricane Sandy likely will continue this weekend in the Specialty market. Two releases, A Late Quartet and This Must Be the Place were set for launches at the Sunshine Theater in Manhattan’s Lower East Side which is still without electricity. Con Edison notified customers in the area today that power is estimated to return Saturday at 11PM. Magnolia Pictures will roll out Jack And Diane whose director Bradley Rust Gray lured a nice cache of talent, Deadline reports . Showtime to Debut Roman Polanski Documentary Roman Polanski: Odd Man Out will bow in 2013. The film is a follow-up to Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired by Marina Zenovich. The latter recounts the filmmaker’s arrest in 2009 in Switzerland en route to the Zurich Film Festival, facing extradition to the U.S., THR reports .

IFP to Develop and Operate “Made in New York” Media Center Independent film advocacy group Independent Filmmaker Project (IFP) will develop and operate a new Media Center in New York City. Around the ‘net… Cinematographer Harris Savides Dies Harris Savides, the acclaimed cinematographer who worked frequently with Gus Van Sant and David Fincher, has died at 55. Savides died Wednesday night, his representatives at The Skouras Agency confirmed Thursday. Savides was known for vividly recreating the hazy hues of 1970s cinema in films like Fincher’s Zodiac , Ridley Scott’s American Gangster and Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere , and for mesmerizingly fluid, long takes with Van Sant in movies including Last Days , ‘ Elephant and Gerry , A.P. reports . Ben Affleck Eyes Live By Night as Next Directing Gig The director/actor is in talks with Warner Bros. to make Live By Night which, like Argo , he will write, direct, produce and star in. The story is based on the novel by Dennis Lehane. Set during Prohibition, the focus is on Joe Coughlin, the black sheep son of a police captain who gets involved in escalating levels of organized crime, Deadline reports . Jodie Foster to Direct Money Monster Foster will direct the drama about a TV personality whose insider trading tips have made him the money guru of Wall Street. A viewer, however, loses all his money on a tip from the insider and takes him hostage on air. Ratings soar as the country is gripped by the drama. Production is set for early 2013, Deadline reports .

Harvey Weinstein to MC Toronto Asian Film Summit The Weinstein Company chief will act as the master of ceremonies for the closing banquet of the event, hosted by the Toronto International Film Festival that will spotlight the relationship between East and West. Previously announced guests include Jackie Chan who will attend as Guest of Honor and MPAA Chairman Senator Chris Dodd. “We’ve received tremendous support and interest from the industry and we’re confident this event will help foster deeper relationships and generate new business opportunities between key film players in the East and West,” said TIFF CEO Piers Handling. Sassy Pants Heads to Theaters North American rights to the coming-of-age comedy/drama have been picked up by Phase 4 Films. Haley Joel Osment, Ashely Rickards (MTV’s Awkward ) and Anna Gunn (AMC’s Breaking Bad ) star in the film about teen Bethany who flees her over-protective mother and goest to live with her dad where she forms a bond with his much younger boyfriend. The film, which made its world premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, will release the title in theaters and VOD this fall. Around the ‘net… Cosmopolitan Editor Helen Gurley Brown Dead at 90 The former Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief died at 90 in New York shortly after being admitted to a hospital. She edited the magazine for 32 years and was the author of the groundbreaking Sex and the Single Girl . During her tenure at Cosmopolitan she became known for encouraging women to have sex regardless of marital status. She said her goal was to let tell readers “how to get everything out of life – the money, recognition, success, men, prestige, authority, dignity – whatever she is looking at through the glass her nose is pressed against,” BBC reports . Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master to Head to Toronto The Toronto International Film Festival’s Artistic Director Cameron Bailey tweeted that The Master will join the lineup at the event, which opens September 6th. The film, which debuts in Venice, stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams in a story said to be inspired by the early days of Scientology, THR reports . Billy Ray to Write Sinatra for Martin Scorsese Universal Pictures has tapped Billy Ray to write the script for the Frank Sinatra biopic that Martin Scorsese will direct. Scorsese is currently filming Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf Of Wall Street , Deadline reports . Jodie Foster to Direct & Produce Mob Drama This is her first move behind-the-camera for television. She’ll direct and executive produce Angie’s Body for Showtime. The concept centers on a shrew, sexy and sometimes lethal woman who runs a family-based crime syndicate, Deadline reports .
