Racist Rides: Pittsburgh Public Buses To Have Backwards Bigoted “Ziggin Zaggin” Slogans Removed

What is “Ziggin” spelled backwards? Yeah… Allegheny Port Authority To Remove Racist Slogans From Public Buses Via TribLive Port Authority of Allegheny County said Wednesday it will remove promotional slogans on nine buses that appear to spell a racial slur when read backward or viewed in a mirror. Transit agency spokesman Jim Ritchie said a driver complained Tuesday after seeing the message “Ziggin Zaggin” on a bus in her vehicle’s rear-view mirror. “Port Authority certainly did not intend for this message to offend anyone,” agency spokesman Jim Ritchie said. “However, due to recent complaints about how this message appears when read backward, we have decided to remove the message from our vehicles,” Ritchie said. “We apologize to anyone who may have been offended.” “Ziggin Zaggin” was part of a larger promotional campaign that put messages such as “Rockin’ Rollin’,” “Movin’ Groovin’,” and “Movin’ Shakin’ ” on the sides of buses in 2003. All of the buses bearing those slogans are within a year of being retired from Port Authority’s 700-bus fleet. Ritchie said agency workers would peel off the decals. If the outline of the letters still can be seen when the letters are gone, Ritchie said the agency would “find a way to cover it with advertising of some sort” within the next couple of weeks. The work will “probably cost us nothing extra,” Ritchie said. Is this petty or do you think people have the right to be offended by this slogan? Image via CBS (Pittsburgh)

‘Sherlock Holmes’ Mistake Turns Into Action Highlight

‘A Game of Shadows’ director Guy Ritchie recalls how one shot was turned into his favorite action sequence. By Kara Warner Noomi Rapace, Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” Photo: Daniel Smith/ Warner Bros There’s a lot to like about Guy Ritchie’s big-screen versions of the adventures of Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous literary hero Sherlock Holmes, the latest of which, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” just arrived in theaters. One of the most likable elements is that Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) is a bit of a badass, which Ritchie has showcased with as many action sequences as possible. Those who’ve seen “A Game of Shadows” know that the “forest escape” scene is the most impressive of the bunch. In a nutshell, Holmes, Watson (Jude Law) and Madam Sim (Noomi Rapace) are running through a forest, trying not to get hit by the sniper pursuing them or one of the many bombs being hurled their way. The sequence has that patented Ritchie finesse. It features a mix of real-time action and slow motion so the audience can fully invest in all the stunning detail, even if that detail is people being blown to bits. When MTV News caught up with Downey and Ritchie, we asked how that sequence — which was written simply as “they run through the forest” in the script — came to be. “It was the height of the winter, and there was a phantom camera on essentially a remote-controlled, high-speed track,” Downey recalled of the setup. “So we were trying to sync ourselves with the remote-controlled track. It’s really interesting stuff. I think Guy really had an idea for how he wanted [it] to look and feel, and we accomplished it, thank God. It was freezing out there!” Ritchie revealed that although he had planned every detail to make the scene as big as it could be, a technician’s blunder forced him to make some unplanned changes that actually improved the sequence. “I threw a lot of moving parts at it. We had ideas, and all in all, it came together in a way I hoped it was going to come together. One of the technicians missed one of the shots, which was the most fundamental shot of Robert and Jude running through the woods. I’ve only got one shot of them doing that, because the guy forgot to record the rest of it,” he said. “So I string this shot out, but what it meant is that I could scream at someone else and realize there was a lot more that could be extracted from this scene, so I went back for three or four more days and absolutely wrung its neck,” Ritchie explained of stretching the one shot of Downey and Law to fill time. ” … Somewhere, some poor technician got fired somewhere because he forgot to record it, but really, I’m indebted to him.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

‘Sherlock Holmes’ Sequel Is ‘More Sophisticated’

‘We all raised our game, creatively,’ director Guy Ritchie tells MTV News of ‘Game of Shadows.’ By Kara Warner Robert Downey Jr. in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows” Photo: Warner Bros If you’ve caught a trailer for the upcoming “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” which hits theaters Friday, you might have noticed that there is a lot going on. Holmes ( Robert Downey Jr. ) and Watson ( Jude Law ) have carried their bromance over from the 2009 original, with Holmes having issues with Watson’s pending marriage and his wily love interest Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams). Work-wise, the curiously successful Holmes and Watson duo now have to contend with a mysterious new female character (Noomi Rapace) and a formidable and familiar future supervillain, Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). When MTV News caught up with Downey and director Guy Ritchie, we asked them to explain what new excitement “Game of Shadows” offers that we didn’t see in the first film. “I think it’s a superior product, and I’m very tough on these sorts of things,” Downey said. “I think we return to one of the great original face-offs-with-a-supervillain stories in Arthur Conan Doyle’s lexicon, and I think that it’s a little bit more thoughtful. I think the female roles are much more central. It’s a more nicely balanced bit of entertainment.” Ritchie admitted that the success of the first film meant he had pleased audiences enough that he could make this movie for himself in a way, zeroing in on his sensibilities and what he likes in an action film. “We all raised our game, creatively. Rob and the rest of the team took it pretty seriously. We think we’re onto something here, and we don’t want to take it for granted,” Ritchie explained. “We try to give you a more sophisticated plot and more sophisticated action. All in all, we tried to basically put this film on ‘roids.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

The couple “couldn’t be happier,” insiders say. “They’ve been beaming all day and can’t wait to take him home.” Ritchie, of course, shares a son with Madonna. He and the iconic singer split in 2008. But he’s clearly bounced back rather well. [Photo: WENN.com]
