The Soup: Canceled By E! Somehow Not Canceled in 2012!

Despite uneven ratings and countless personnel changes over the years, E! network stalwart The Soup maintained a small but loyal following for an astonishing 21 seasons. Sadly, it was announced today that E! is pulling the plug on the low-budget reality show clip aggregator, and The Soup will ladle out its last serving of droll Kardashian-bashing on December 18. We imagine some of you are in mourning, and others in shock that the show was still on. It’s hard to overstate The Soup’s influence on other late night basic cable series, as TV personalities such as Daniel Tosh and Chris Hardwick (former host of the spinoff Web Soup) have admitted to borrowing the formats for their Comedy Central series straight from The Soup’s playbook. Despite the popularity of Millennial-friendly host Joel McHale (who co-starred on the critically-adored Community for much of his tenure on The Soup), the show’s ratings had been in steady decline, as the Internet began to offer countless options for reality-based snark. Beginning as Talk Soup in 1991, the show featured hosts Greg Kinnear, John Henson, Hal Sparks and Aisha Tyler before McHale began his 12-year run in 2004. “The Soup has delivered countless laughs and unforgettable episodes, and we are grateful to the talented team’s fearless wit and clever approach week after week,” said E! exec Jeff Olde in a statement. “Joel took the show to new heights for more than a decade, and his irreverent humor and unique brand of comedy as captured so perfectly on The Soup will be missed.”   Here’s hoping Kim and Kanye  make a cameo to laugh at themselves in the finale. Yeah, that’s probably not gonna happen… View Slideshow: 12 TV Shows That Should Be Canceled Like Now

Merry Friggin’ Christmas: Trailer For Robin Williams’ Final Film Released Online

After news broke that Robin Williams had committed suicide back in August, fans mourned the loss of one of the sharpest comedic minds the world has ever known. While his existing body of work will be enjoyed for generations to come, it seemed impossible to imagine that someone so lively and animated as Williams would never again grace the screen with his distinct blend of manic energy and real human emotion. Fortunately, before he died, Williams wrapped filming on a dark holiday comedy titled Merry Friggin’ Christmas. The trailer for Robin’s final film was released online earlier today. Merry Friggin Christmas Trailer In the film, Williams plays the cantankerous father of Joel McHale and Clark Duke who must make an emergency last-minute road trip with his adult children in order to “save Christmas.” The actor was reportedly working on a number of projects in the months before his death, but Merry Friggin’ Christmas is said to be the last film that he completed before his unexpected passing. While Williams has been the subject of many moving rembrances  from fans and friends alike, we can’t think of a more fitting tribute to one of the funniest men who’s ever lived than to watch him do what he does best on the silver screen one last time. Robin Williams: His Most Memorable Roles 1. Mork (Mork & Mindy) The role that started it all. Robin Williams starred as an alien on the late 1970s sitcom Mork & Mindy.

WATCH: LOLs, Sadfaces Ensue When Comedians Read Twitter Insults Aloud

Because it’s always good to remember that when you’re judging famous people on Twitter , they sometimes read it (and weep), Jimmy Kimmel corralled a gaggle of comedians and comic actors to read some of the meanest Tweet-critiques they’ve received for the camera. I think we can all take a few universal lessons from this video: Namely, that celebrities like Jason Bateman , Presidential candidate Roseanne , and Andy Dick really are like the rest of us little Tweeters — well okay, maybe not Andy Dick. Also: Will Ferrell reads his @ messages while on the can, too! If that can’t bring us together as a Tweeple, what will? [via Jimmy Kimmel ]

VIDEO: Latest Oscar Promo Turns Anne Hathaway Into a ‘Rump Shaker’

James Franco and Anne Hathaway (and the ABC promo department) have done well in creating a sense of guarded optimism about the job the pair will do hosting the Oscars on Sunday night. Which is why you should think twice before watching the latest promo for the show. No, it’s not romantic and beautiful, like the 19 seconds of the Grease parody that James Franco sent out to Twitter on Wednesday; it’s awkward and cringe-worthy. Unless the idea of seeing Anne Hathaway-as-Madonna-as-Evita singing “Rump Shaker” is your idea of a party. Then, watch away! Popping and locking at your desk is optional.

Do you know who would really, really like to guest star on Glee ? Broadway legend (and apparently Lady Gaga’s inspiration), Liza Minnelli. At least that is what the icon told Jimmy Fallon last night.
