Joe Jonas Wants Fans To Dance To His Solo Album

‘They’ve been wanting this for me for a long time,’ he tells MTV News of support from Jonas Brothers Nick and Kevin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Matt Elias Joe Jonas Photo: MTV News The Jonas Brothers always seem to stand by one another, even if that means stepping away from the trio to try out new projects. Last year, Joe and Kevin gave Nick their blessing when he released a solo LP. And now that Joe is working on new music , his brothers are showing him the same support. “I think there’s a lot of emotions that I feel about doing my solo project. I think I was nervous in the beginning,” Joe told MTV News when we visited him and producer Danja at the studio. “I wanted to have my brothers’ support, and the fact they’re both so excited for me and they’ve been wanting this for me for a long time [is great].” As part of Nick Jonas and the Administration, Nick released the bluesy, pop rock album Who I Am in 2010, but Joe’s project will likely have a different sound. “To be able to go on a musical journey for a while and finally, with finding Danja and working with him, we’ve been able to collaborate on something that really works for me,” Joe explained. “And [to] find me and not try to mold it into something it’s not, to try and be myself and my music and kind of tell stories and be honest and just have something … [that] when people hear it, hopefully they’ll be able to dance to it and have a good time.” While their solo musical directions may differ, Joe said he learned some things from Nick. “I think the biggest thing that I saw from [Nick], he just had a good time,” he said. “He made a record that was for him and this one is for me and my fans. To be able to get in here everyday and just vibe out, we’re all just having a great time in here. The biggest piece is that I’m on the journey. … It’s just gonna be a fun vibe to everything.” Are you looking forward to hearing Joe’s solo material? Tell us in the comments! Justin Bieber’s Black Eye Is Too Good To Be True

Last night, Justin Bieber posted this sweet pic of his shiner on Twitpic . Gnarly! You should see the other guy! Just kidding it was a 10-year-old girl asking for an autograph, just kidding it was Justin’s swagger coach when Justin refused to pretend to be a 10-year-old girl again, just kidding… The truth is actually far more terrifying: JustJaredJr confirmed that Justin had been tweeting from the set of CSI , where he’ll be reprising the role of Jason McCann, child terrorist . Which means that black eye is just a very good makeup job, and all that mob of tweens that’s already been dispatched to kill whichever of the Jonas Brothers did this to him (probably Kevin), will have to be called off. Are Miley Cyrus And Nick Jonas Recording A Duet Album?

Cyrus producer Shakur Green reportedly tweets that the exes are working on a joint LP. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus and Nick Jonas Photo: Rob Hoffman/JBE/Getty Images In 2009, Nick Jonas and Miley Cyrus released the breakup ballad “Before the Storm.” The track, which was recorded after the two had split and right before they briefly reconciled, was featured on the Jonas Brothers album Lines, Vines and Trying Times. Now, it seems that the duo might be trying to make that magic happen again. Music producer Shakur Green, who worked with Cyrus on her Time of Our Lives EP, tweeted that he’s heading into the studio to work with the teen stars. “Returning to the studio w/ Miley Cyrus & Nick Jonas on 1/14,” he wrote in tweets posted on the AnythingDisney blog , which gained access to the producer’s protected Twitter account. “Can’t release any additional information about the project other then it’s going to be one of the top albums of 2011,” he added. “We’re only recording 7-10 records. She has other producers she working with besides myself!” Although he kept the details somewhat scarce, he did reveal one major piece to the puzzle: “I will share this info: It’s going to be a double disk duet album!” A rep for the stars hadn’t responded to MTV News’ request for comment by press time. Cyrus did join the boys onstage for one show in June 2009 to play “Before the Storm.” At the time, when MTV News caught up with Nick, he expressed how much he really loved the song. ” ‘Before the Storm’ is probably one of my favorite songs on the record,” Nick said. “I think it’s probably one of my favorite songs because it has a great story to it. It’s a duet with Miley, which is great.” What do you think about Miley and Nick possibly teaming up for a whole album? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Miley Cyrus Jonas Brothers

Teena Marie’s Influence Found In Mary J. Blige, Hip-Hop, More

Late soul veteran paved the way for several of today’s hitmakers. By Mawuse Ziegbe Teena Marie Photo: Larry Marano/Getty Images R&B great Teena Marie died over the weekend, but her enduring legacy can be found in the legions of soul stars who followed in her footsteps. Marie joined the iconic Motown label in the late ’70s and spent the next three decades building a reputation as a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist with a gift for penning lyrics and belting with soulful abandon. Her influence — from her top-flight musicianship to her pioneering image as a white, female R&B artist — can be found in many of today’s hitmakers. Mary J. Blige The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has pointed to Marie as an early influence when the budding superstar was coming up in her scrappy Yonkers, New York, neighborhood. “Tina Mari inspired me vocally as a child. Her songs I sang in the mirror with a hair brush. I’m so hurt,” she tweeted on Sunday. “I’ll love u forever Tina Mari. Portuguese Love, Casanova Brown, Square Biz, I need your lovin, all of your music will live forever through me. In my heart she’s Tina, So rest in peace Tina, i love u. Every girl that grew up in the hood , with her blasting through the windows, Cars and radio waves can Feel me.” Faith Evans Like Marie, former Bad Boy singer Faith Evans boasts a bold voice and a headline-making relationship with a labelmate and music icon. Marie hooked up with Motown funk architect Rick James early in her career and would go on to spark a romance with the R&B great. James also served as a mentor to Marie, and the two teamed up for memorable collaborations such as James’ Street Songs jam “Fire and Desire.” In addition to churning out soulful hits with Bad Boy, Evans is known for marrying Brooklyn MC Notorious B.I.G. soon after meeting her charismatic labelmate. Marie has even commented on the similarities between the two vocalists in the bio for the soul legend’s 2009 album, Congo Square, which featured their collabo “Can’t Last a Day.” “I’ve always loved Faith and her vocal style. She reminds me of me. Her correlation with Biggie — having a career with him and without him — reminds me of me and Rick,” she said. “I feel like she’s a younger me. Of the younger ladies, she’s the one I love most.” Alicia Keys Marie was also a masterful musician, often manning everything from the keyboards to guitar on her albums and heading behind the boards as a producer. She helped establish a blueprint for female R&B stars who are actively involved in various aspects of the production process, such as pianist and producer Alicia Keys, who tweeted after Marie’s death, “God bless Teena Marie & her Family!Sending Blessings &prayers I was jus sayin tht fire & desire is 1 of the most beautifully performd songs!” Pink Marie’s race was somewhat controversial when she first debuted on Motown as a white woman belting soul-stirring R&B. Her picture was left off the album packaging her first LP, and many fans assumed Lady T was another new black artist making her mark in the R&B scene. However, she was ultimately accepted because of her undeniable talent and conviction in her voice. She has paved the way for many contemporary artists such as Joss Stone and Pink, who initially hit the scene with an R&B-tinged sound. After hearing of Marie’s death, Pink re-tweeted a missive from Go-Go’s bassist Kathy Valentine that read, “THIS SUCKS– heard that Teena Marie passed away. RIP. she was an original and one of a kind. sad.” As Marie told Essence in 2009, “I’m a black artist with white skin. At the end of the day you have to sing what’s in your own soul.” Hip-Hop While she made her name as a soul veteran, Marie’s music has popped up in hip-hop cuts from many of the game’s finest lyricists. Marie’s 1981 jam “Square Biz” was revamped for rap supergroup the Firm’s (Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ, Nature, Cormega) 1997 single “Firm Biz,” and Mase reworked the track’s jocular bass line for the Harlem World album cut “Love U So.” The chorus for the Fugees’ 1996 smash “Fu-Gee-La” features similar crooning to Marie’s hit “Ooo La La La” from the 1988 album Naked to the World. Even hip-hop stars who may not have reimagined Marie’s catalog for their own hits, such as Game , Big Boi and ?uestlove , recalled Marie’s influence and legacy on Twitter. Demi Lovato 2011 Solo Tour Still On Track

After dropping out of the Jonas Brothers ‘Camp Rock’ tour in October to enter treatment, Disney star confirms she’ll be back next year. By James Dinh Demi Lovato Photo: Gary Miller/ FilmMagic When Demi Lovato checked herself into a treatment center for “emotional and physical issues” in October, the Disney starlet was forced to check out early from her joint “Camp Rock” tour with the Jonas Brothers . But the teen star is determined to hit the road once again to promote a new album in 2011, according to The Associated Press . In an article about concert promoters’ plans to make ticket prices more affordable in 2011, the AP revealed that Lovato’s camp have confirmed that the pop star’s plans for a solo 2011 tour to promote a new album are still on track. When speaking about the high ticket prices, the 18-year-old starlet said, “I have best friends that aren’t in the industry and are dealing with just buying groceries and things like that, so I want to do my part.” Back in November, a rep for Lovato explained that the singer/actress was disappointed that she couldn’t wrap up the Jonas Brothers tour, saying, “[Demi] regrets not being able to finish her tour, but is looking forward to getting back to work in the near future.” While Lovato pulled out from that tour with six scheduled days left, the star was not replaced for the remaining set of shows in South America. Things seem to be looking up for the teen sensation. Over the weekend, Lovato was spotted spending time with her family at a restaurant near her treatment facility in Woodridge, Illinois. In addition to her family bonding, the Disney actress has reportedly come to a settlement regarding the altercation between her and dancer Alex Welch, whom she allegedly punched. ‘Little Fockers’ Celebrates At The Holiday Box Office

‘Fockers’ won a meager first-place prize, while ‘True Grit’ blasted its way to second place. By Josh Wigler Ben Stiller in “Little Fockers” Photo: Universal Studios/DW Studios ‘Tis the season to be jolly, but while the holiday spirit was present in millions of households this past weekend, it wasn’t felt with nearly as much fanfare at the movies. It was a fairly quiet weekend at the box office this holiday season, with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro’s “Little Fockers” leading the pack with an estimated $34 million from Friday through Sunday and a five-day total of $48.3 million. But while Jack still has his eye on Greg, few people entered the circle of trust this go-around, as “Fockers,” the second sequel to the critically acclaimed “Meet the Parents,” failed to match the success of its predecessor “Meet the Fockers,” which earned $70.5 million in its first five days in 2004. Indeed, the second-place showing for “True Grit” was more impressive than the first-place “Fockers” in many respects. For one, the Jeff Bridges-starring Western drew $36.8 million since opening on Wednesday of last week, nearly crushing its entire $38 million production budget in a single session. “True Grit” also marked the single-best opening for any Coen brothers movie to date, easily surpassing the $19.1 million “Burn After Reading” earned in 2008. “Tron Legacy” remained on the gaming grid this weekend with a third-place finish worth $25.6 million. The movie suffered a steep 54 percent drop from its opening performance last weekend, leaving some to wonder whether Disney’s decision to revitalize the science-fiction franchise was a sound one. The weekend’s biggest disappointment was Jack Black’s “Gulliver’s Travels,” which debuted Saturday and ended the weekend in seventh place with $7.2 million. Releasing the film on Christmas Day was a risky gamble on Fox’s part, and despite the message that “Gulliver” has to offer, size really does matter when it comes to business, and unfortunately for the studio, the opening numbers on “Gulliver” are simply too small to consider the film anything but a flop. The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Little Fockers” ($34 million) #2 “True Grit” ($25.6 million) #3 “Tron Legacy” ($20.1 million) #4 “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” ($10.8 million) #5 “Yogi Bear” ($8.8 million) Upcoming Releases It’s going to be another quiet weekend at the box office next week, with smaller-budget dramas “Another Year” and “Blue Valentine” sneaking in as the weekend’s only new releases with a combined total of 10 theaters between the two of them. Demi Lovato Spends Christmas With Family

Plus: Tour dancer says she came to an ‘agreement’ with Lovato after alleged altercation. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images While rumors that Demi Lovato would be out of treatment by Thanksgiving were false, it seems the singer/actress was able to spend Christmas Day with her family. The “Sonny With a Chance” star was spotted with her family on Christmas getting food near her treatment facility in Woodridge, Illinois, according to Celebrity-Gossip.net . Wearing a leopard-print jacket, sunglasses and army boots, Lovato “seemed in good spirits,” according to a source. The site also reported that Lovato went back to the treatment facility later that evening. Lovato sightings have been rare since she entered the facility in early November. She left her tour with the Jonas Brothers after an alleged altercation with dancer Alex Welch. Earlier this month, photos taken prior to her treatment leaked online of Lovato partying with her friends , including Welch. Welch recently told People that she and the Disney actress came to a settlement in connection with the altercation. “I’m happy,” she said. “We came to an agreement and I’m ready to move on.” A rep for the Disney star had no comment regarding the settlement between the two. Earlier this month, Welch spoke about the disagreement , noting that she really wanted Demi to say sorry. “To this day, I haven’t gotten an apology. I’ve heard nothing,” Welch said. “That’s sad if you think that person is your friend. “I felt, honestly, I didn’t say anything and didn’t think twice about it,” Welch recalled. “We were on the plane with the Jonases having this awesome time, and I didn’t get a call or text from Demi or a ‘hey, you got a problem with me,’ nothing. And she walks up and punches me and, literally, walked away and got in her seat,” she continued. “No one should walk up and do that and brush it over, it’s not right.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato
