There’s a good chance American Idol ‘s finale didn’t thrill you this year. There are five solid reasons to see this concert, and I’m not just saying so because I’ve already bought my ticket. Spoilers ahead.

Adam Lambert Picks His ‘American Idol’ Favorites, Plans Another Visit

‘I hope to come back for the finale,’ he tells MTV News. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Kelly Marino Adam Lambert Photo: Dr. Billy Ingram/WireImage After spending a week as a guest mentor on “American Idol,” Adam Lambert learned a few things about this year’s crop of contestants. First and foremost, he wasn’t all that shocked to see Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia get the boot after the pair turned in “sleepy” performances. “You know, I think at this point in the competition, it comes down to ‘Do you want to be there, or do you not want to be there?’ ” Lambert told MTV News on the red carpet of the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday in Los Angeles. “You’ve got to step it up, get some caffeine going. They were a little sleepy.” Secondly, he already has a favorite to win the season-nine crown — or, more specifically, four favorites. He also thinks everyone should start packing lasers, like he did for his performance of “Whataya Want From Me” on “Idol.” “There’s some amazing voices this year. I think Crystal [Bowersox], Casey [James], Lee [Dewyze] and Michael [Lynche], for me, those four really stand out as authentic, pure, amazing vocals,” he said. “But everyone was really sweet and really friendly and really receptive. I had a great time mentoring, and I had a really good time putting on my laser show. I got lasers! I was so excited. I was like a little kid.” And since he had such a great time on the show, Lambert said he hopes he can make another appearance during the season-nine finale. He wanted to show up for this week’s “Idol Gives Back” event, but his schedule won’t allow it. “I hope to come back for the finale. Unfortunately, I’m going to be gone for ‘Idol Gives Back,’ ” he said. “I leave this Sunday. I’m going to be in Europe for three weeks, promoting my album. … It comes out in the U.K. at the end of the month, and I’m so excited to see how it does over there.” What do you think about Adam’s “Idol” assessment? Do you want to see him back on the show for the finale? Let us know in the comments below! Crystal Bowersox Confirms "Moment of Doubt," Near Idol Departure

She’s the clear season nine favorite on American Idol , but Crystal Bowersox has never looked comfortable on stage. The folksy singer admitted many months ago that she had never watched an episode of Idol , and she’s been outwardly shaken up when certain contestants – such as Lilly Scott and Katie Stevens – were eliminated this year. Therefore, it didn’t come as a major shock this week when a report leaked out that said Bowersox was close to quitting the competition, but was convinced to stay by Ryan Seacrest. On Facebook yesterday, Crystal confirmed this rumor, writing: We all have moments of doubt. As much as I miss my kid, the big picture is this: im doing this for him and my fans. I’m having the time of my life! Sounds like Bowersox will be sticking around – and thank goodness for that. On the most lackluster season to date, we don’t even want to imagine tuning in to Idol each week and not at least having Crystal to look forward to.

Katie Stevens Did What Was ‘Best For Me’ On ‘American Idol’

‘They all know what they’re talking about, but ultimately, I need to do what I love,’ she says of the judges. By Katie Byrne Katie Stevens on “American Idol” Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images After some iffy performances in the “American Idol” semifinals, many fans questioned Katie Stevens making the top 12 over other female contestants like Lilly Scott and Katelyn Epperly. Well, the 17-year-old was out to prove those critics wrong in the finals with her powerful performances of the Rolling Stones’ “Wild Horses” and the Beatles’ “Let It Be.” But Simon Cowell lambasted Katie’s take on Elvis’ “Baby What You Want Me to Do” for being too loud and “annoying,” and she was sent packing, along with Andrew Garcia , on Wednesday night. We caught up with the high-schooler on Thursday (April 15) to find out what she thought of Kara and Simon’s back-and-forth about what kind of artist she was and much more. Q : Simon and Kara had a real tug-of-war going on, fighting over whether you should sing country or pop/R&B. What was it like being stuck in the middle of that? A : I think where I went at fault at the beginning of the competition, during top 24, was when I was trying to please the judges and I wasn’t pleasing myself and doing what I loved. I decided going into top 12 that I was just going to be myself. So everything that I did at that point was what I loved to do. I think that kind of showed, so the judges started giving me better comments. And Simon telling me he thought I was country — I mean, they all know what they’re talking about, but ultimately, I need to do what I love and do what I feel is best for me. And I kind of side more with Kara and the pop with R&B leanings. In an album, I would like to record things like Kelly Clarkson, where she has the soulful voice with kind of pop/R&B and a rock background. I hope to record that kind of album soon! Q : What was the most difficult aspect of being on “Idol”? A : Each contestant, we’d go out there, and we’d try to do our best each week, and it’s very hard knowing that you’re going to be judged afterward, because you don’t know what to expect. You don’t know if they’re going to give you good comments or bad comments, so you just try to manage your nerves as best you can. The singing part was probably easiest, but it was nerve-racking to go into the judging part of it. So definitely the judging was most difficult for me. Q : You mentioned that your dad had such a hard time with the results shows that he skipped them altogether. What was your parents’ reaction when you were eliminated this week? A : They have been behind me since I started to sing when I was little. Obviously, they saw that I was upset, but my mom even said to me yesterday … “You know what, Katie? If you started out and you were at the stadium, and they told you, ‘OK, Katie, we’re gonna let you be on the show, but you’re only gonna make it to the eighth spot,’ would you have done it?” And I said, “Absolutely.” So they basically told me how proud they were of me and how I should have no regrets about anything, and I don’t. I have no regrets, and I’m so proud of myself that I was able to have strength enough to go through this at my age. I’m very proud of everything I’ve accomplished. Q : After Michael Lynche was given a second chance , were you disappointed or relieved that the judges’ save wasn’t on the table for you this week? A : I love Big Mike. And I was so happy that he got saved and all of us contestants were able to spend another week with him. I mean, it was weird, because I had this feeling that it was gonna be me when I was standing next to him. And I’m so proud of him and all the other contestants. And I was privileged to be able to spend time with them and work with all of them. I was definitely happy to be able to sing at the end. Obviously, it’s a little emotional, but I tried as best I could, and that wasn’t the last time that America’s gonna see me. Just gotta keep that in mind. Q : What was the best piece of advice Adam Lambert gave you as a mentor ? A : He told me to always stick to what I love and what I believe in. It was great to have him as a mentor, because he’s been through the “Idol” process. So he was able to give us feedback on what he did and how he was able to evolve throughout all the pressures and everything. And it really helped us try to home in on that and do the best that we can. Were you sad to see Katie go? Are you excited to hear her post-“Idol” music? Let us know in the comments below! ‘American Idol’ Fans Surprised By Resilience Of Aaron Kelly, Tim Urban

No one, however, is shocked to see Katie Stevens and Andrew Garcia go. By Gil Kaufman Aaron Kelly performs on “American Idol” on Tuesday Photo: Fox Some weeks, “American Idol” fans are up in arms about the latest elimination. And then there’s this week, where despite losing two potential “Idol” superstars, most fans and experts seem to agree that America pretty much got it right by sending Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens to the “Idol” boneyard . “No surprise,” was the simple response by MTV News reader Linda. She was echoed by fellow commenter Anita, who wrote, “Not surprised at the results. Only surprised Mike [Lynche] wasn’t in the bottom three this week. Still doesn’t feel like he means what he says/sings.” Reader Josolani did find it hard to believe that Stevens’ fellow teen Aaron Kelly was still safe, not to mention often wobbly Tim Urban, who Simon Cowell proclaimed had gone from “zero to hero” during Elvis week. “Tim is a nice guy with limited talent, and he must be surprised he came so far,” Josolani wrote. Just about everyone saw the Garcia boot coming, but Rickey Yaneza, webmaster of the “Idol” fansite Rickey.org , said he was not expecting Stevens to go. “I’m a fan of Katie, so I thought she shouldn’t have gone and maybe could have stayed longer,” he said. “She was improving week-to-week, and I think she could have kept doing it. But someone has to go every week, and so if not now, maybe next week.” Yaneza thought Casey James was actually the one who fell a bit flat and should have been on the chopping block. “He was very safe again and not very interesting,” he said. “And Aaron Kelly’s always in trouble, so I thought he would go too.” Perhaps, superfan Yaneza suggested, his urgent call to his readers to vote for Kelly saved the teen — for one more week, anyway. Though she had predicted Garcia’s ouster, MJ Santilli of MJsBigBlog.com was a bit disappointed by Stevens’ departure. “I’ve been hard on her most of the season, criticizing her pageant-like performances,” Santilli said. “But in the last two weeks, she had improved and seemed poised for a breakthrough. I thought of the two teens, Aaron Kelly was the one who should have been sent packing. His performances are spotty, and he’s not on the improvement arc Katie had begun before she was cut off.” If nothing else, the loss of Stevens is part of a pattern that Santilli said is a disappointing one in season nine, which was touted early on by the judges as a potential showcase for a group of strong female singers. “Aaron is a boy, and males have the advantage in the voting contest,” she lamented. “I’m certain a percentage of his votes have to do with the cuteness factor and nothing to do with his singing. … A top seven made up of five boys and two girls. So much for the year of the girl.” Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. In Memoriam: American Idol’s Newest Losers Andrew Garcia and Katie Stevens

Idol ‘s double-homicide last night had the air of an overdue spring cleaning. It was as if the voting public said, “What’s this bland 17-year-old girl doing stocked with the linens? I’ll give her to Amvets.” Nonetheless, we did lose two “talented” (read: in tune) vocalists somewhere in Adam Lambert’s green smoke last night. They deserve a proper eulogy like any other victims of the Urbanator .
