2010 ESPY Awards Honor Kobe, Landon And Lindsey, Spoof LeBron

Host Seth Myers and others skewer sports oddities from James’ special to Paul the octopus. By Kyle Anderson Landon Donovan at the ESPY Awards Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images The worlds of sports, movies, music and television came together under one roof on Wednesday, the quietest sports day of the year, for ESPN’s annual ESPY Awards. Dozens of stars — including Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant, American World Cup hero Landon Donovan, New Orleans Saints Quarterback Drew Brees and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn — gathered at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles for a night of sports highlights and wacky comedy, orchestrated by host Seth Myers. Bryant, Donovan, Brees and Vonn each won some of the night’s biggest awards. Kobe, fresh off the Lakers’ latest championship and his second Finals MVP, scored the prize for Best NBA Player. Donovan won two trophies, one each for Best MLS Player and Best Moment in Sports (his game-winning goal against Algeria in the World Cup beat out the New Orleans’ Saints Super Bowl victory, Phil Mickelson’s win at the 2009 Masters and Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette’s performance at the Winter Olympics). Brees was voted Best Male Athlete, Best NFL Player and Best Championship Performance, while Vonn took home the prizes for Best Female Athlete and Best Female Olympian. Much of the humor during the evening — provided by the likes of Will Ferrell, Jon Hamm, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan, Zac Efron, Mark Wahlberg and Luke Wilson — was directed at LeBron James (who was also in attendance) and his recent one-hour special, “The Decision,” which ESPN aired last week. “Did it really need to be an hour?” Myers asked. “Somebody time me: ‘Miami.’ How long did that take? A second!” The 2010 FIFA World Cup was also the source of much humor. Ferrell came out for some vuvuzela-related jokes and Samberg appeared on the show as Paul, the German octopus who correctly predicted the winners of a handful of matches. But the highlight of the night was the surprise award given to President Barack Obama. His presence in the building was kept a secret, but he received a standing ovation when he approached the stage to accept his Lifetime Achievement ESPY, given for his “contributions and commitment to American sport.” What was your favorite moment from the 2010 ESPY Awards? Landon Donovan Did Not Father Love Child

During the World Cup last month, U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan was “informed of the possibility” that a British woman was pregnant with his child. Now, he knows the truth, and he’s off the hook. “I will not be a dad any time soon, which is good news for me,” Donovan, 28, told E! Online at the ESPY Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. Donovan is separated from his wife, actress Bianca Kajlich , and made news when he did not deny a report that the UK woman was carrying his baby. GOOOOOAL! Landon Donovan is not the father! He told Sports Illustrated at the time that if the love child was his, “I will provide the appropriate support.” Looks like a moot point now, however. Landon Donovan has spent most of his pro career in the U.S., but played on loan for the Liverpool (UK) club Everton for several months last winter.

Bianca Kajlich and Landon Donovan split

Landon Donovan, 28, quietly split with the Rules of Engagement actress Bianca Kajlic, 33, in July 2009 but gave her a shout-out and blew her a kiss during a post-game interview after he helped keep Team USA#39;s hopes alive in a crucial match. Last week#39;s emotional phone call between Landon Donovan and his estranged wife Bianca Kajlich wasn#39;t just a spur of the moment reconciliation. “I#39;ve known Bianca for eight years. We have been and will always be best of friends,” the soccer star

Landon Donovan Says ‘Finality’ Is Hardest Part Of Losing World Cup

USA soccer star talks about the importance of volunteering at New York conference. By Kyle Anderson, with reporting by Akshay Bhansali Landon Donovan Photo: MTV News If Tuesday night’s forum for the National Conference on Volunteering and Service had happened a month ago, undoubtedly the biggest audience response would have gone to former first daughter Barbara Bush or Ben Nemtin from MTV’s “The Buried Life.” But then Landon Donovan’s 2010 FIFA World Cup heroics happened and captivated a suddenly soccer-loving American public, which meant that he scored the biggest and most prolonged cheers from the crowd of students and young people gathered in the spirit of spreading the word about giving back. Donovan talked about the importance of public service, something he said he got from his parents. “I come from a background with teachers everywhere, and my mom taught special ed for 29 years, so if there’s a definition of giving and service to a community, I think being a special-ed teacher is way up there,” he told MTV News after speaking to the group. The soccer star doesn’t just talk the talk, either. He has been active in a number of different charities and service organizations that he has managed to help through his participation on the U.S. national soccer squad. Most recently, the Los Angeles Galaxy player has been working with a group to try to stamp out malaria in Africa. “The people from United Against Malaria approached me and asked me if I wanted to be a part of their campaign, and for me it was perfect,” Donovan said. “No better way to get awareness than a World Cup. Everybody was watching — the first World Cup in Africa. Ten dollars buys a net that literally saves a family’s lives. The biggest thing is getting awareness out there. Not just awareness in other countries but also awareness in Africa — letting people know it’s as simple as going out and buying a net to help save yourself.” Donovan also shared his musical obsessions (he digs hip-hop but tends to listen to more laid-back stuff like the Fray before games) and talked about how he dealt with the United States’ elimination from the tournament at the hands of Ghana in the round of 16 last Saturday. “We’ve all lost plenty of games in our lives, but when you lose in a World Cup, it’s different and it’s more disappointing,” he explained. “The finality of it all is the hard part. You realize that everything you’ve put in for so long is gone and you have to wait another four years. That’s the part that’s most difficult to take.”

Report: Landon Donovan Knocked Up British Chick

U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan may be facing a crisis much bigger than his team’s elimination from the World Cup this past weekend – a forthcoming love child. A newspaper in the UK will allege that a British woman is pregnant by Donovan, who is separated from his wife, actress Bianca Kajlich, but not divorced from her. His relationship with Kajlich became the subject of great interest last week after they shared an emotional phone call following his winning goal against Algeria. Donovan, who played for the Liverpool football club Everton this winter, blew her a kiss during an interview, fueling speculation that the couple might reconcile. “It would surprise no one if Landon and Bianca were back together very soon,” said one of her friends. “They have remained in contact and are very close.” Landon Donovan is separated from wife Bianca Kajlich. The fact that he may have fathered a love child with someone else may not aid his bid to reconcile with her . The identity of Donovan’s baby mama is unclear at this time, as is how Bianca will feel about his attempts to win her back if this love child rumor proves to be legit. Regarding the pregnancy rumor, Donovan did not deny it might be true, telling Sports Illustrated’s Web site: “I was informed of the possibility during the World Cup.” “If I need to take responsibility, then I will provide the appropriate support,” he added. “This is a private matter, and I will refrain from further comment at this time.” Donovan has spent most of his career in the U.S., but played on loan in Liverpool earlier this year, becoming a fan favorite – apparently with one woman in particular. He was a hero for the USA at the World Cup, scoring three goals and guiding the team to the knockout phase, where they were eliminated on Saturday by Ghana.
