Jenelle Evans is married to an admitted dog killer . Due to David Eason’s violent, disgusting actions, Jenelle and her husband lost custody of their children for about two months this spring and summer. But now little Kaiser and Ensley (along with 11-year old Maryssa) are back in the reality star’s custody — and it’s like nothing ever totally awful and disturving ever happened. At least in the eyes of Jenelle and David. Speaking to Us Weekly at the Jenelle Evans JE Cosmetics Launch on Monday, Evans addressed the temporary loss of her son and daughter, telling the tabloid: “It’s been very great because it’s really keeping us humble. “[It’s] been having us focus on just staying at home, focusing on making them happy, making sure that’s a No. 1 priority.” A very nice sentiment, we’d all agree. But will Evans and Eason really put these kids first? Truly raise them in a calm and safe environment for a change? Yes, Jenelle vows. “We want to make them happy,” Evans continued in this same interview , adding of her controversial makeup line: “In the background, I have a big support team that’s out here working for me behind the scenes, and a lot of people don’t see that. I have to be a mom and live in North Carolina, but behind the scenes I am doing a lot.” This marks the first real job Jenelle has had since she was fired by MTV for Eason’s aforementioned murder and the subsequent removal of her kids. Why anyone would take beauty advice from Jenelle Evans, well… that’s a different, confusing story. Evans and Eason — the latter of whom now MAKES WEAPONS FOR A LIVING — share a two-year old daughter named Ensley, while Evans coparents five-year old son Kaiser with her ex Nathan Griffith. For his part, Eason has custody of daughter Maryssa, 11, from a previous relationship. Those are a lot of mouths to feed. … and, just like that, Britney Spears’ new hair color doesn’t seem like a very big deal any longer. Not after multiple outlets have confirmed Kevin Federline recently accused his former father-in-law of child abuse. The former professional dancer — who was married to Spears for two years and who shares kids Sean Federline, 13, and Jayden James Federline, 12 — with the global superstar, has filed an official police report against Jaime Spears. In documents obtained by The Blast, it has been reported that Kevin filed said report on August 25, the day after an alleged physical altercation between Jamie and his and Britney’s oldest son, Sean. This incident supposedly went down at Jamie’s home in Ventura County while he was watching his grandkids. According to TMZ insiders, an altercation between Jamie and Sean turned physical at one point… with Mr. Spears putting his hands on his grandson in violent fashion. It was not by accident, either, these same insiders explain. TMZ writes that Jamie broke down a door to get to his grandson and grabbed him once he was in the room. It’s unclear at this time exactly what precipated to confrontation — not that it matters, of course. The action described above is wildly inappropriate and likely illegal, if the report is true. Sources close to the investigation tell TMZ that there were no visible bruises or injuries to the 13-year old. Nevertheless, this incident was severe enough to Federline that he reported it the next to day to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. While we await further details, we can at least report investigators have already interviewed witnesses and turned over their findings to the District Attorney’s Office. The district attorney is the person who will now determine if there’s enough evidence against Jamie Spears to file charges. Spears and Federline stunned the world when they exchanged vows in 2004; they took fans by less surprise in 2006 when they filed for divorce. This police report filing comes just days after Federline and Spears formalized a custody agreement in which Kevin will have custody of their two sons 70 percent of the time. This has been the general arrangement for about a year, but it is now legal. Prior to this set-up, Kevin and Britney — who have been on very solid terms for many years — shared custody of their kids equally. UPDATE : As you could have guessed, this alleged altercation between Jamie and Sean took place during Britney’s allotted time with the children. We cannot say for certain where she was at the time, but she allegedly took Sean and Jayden away from their grandfather at one point and brought them back to her home. Federline was called later to pick them up and the boys stayed the evening of August 24 with their father. If Jamie is charged, the crime will more than likely be considered a misdemeanor. Jamie has served as the conservator of his daughter’s estate for nearly a decade. He has often had a turbulent relationship with Federline, especially of late. Earlier this year, Jamie and Kevin went at it in court over an increase in child support for the former DJ as he took over the majority of custody while Britney dealt with mental health issues. T he rising cost of higher education has created financial burdens for several students throughout the country. According to a study conducted by Morning Consult , four in 10 students skipped meals to be able to afford textbooks and course materials and three in 10 students decided to opt out of a course due to the high price of required textbooks. The United Negro College Fund has teamed up with the tech-ed company Cengage to address the growing issue through the creation of a program that will provide HBCU students with free access to textbooks. Black students have been significantly impacted by the expensive cost of textbooks. Research shows that 60 percent of African American students decided not to purchase textbooks because the prices were too high, and 52 percent say that the cost affects their finances. Furthermore, 32 percent of Black students have to sacrifice trips home to spend time with their loved ones so they can pay for their textbooks. Through the program, UNCF and Cengage will select 1,000 students to have free access to Cengage’s digital subscription platform which features over 22,000 eBooks and other course materials. “Every student should have an equal opportunity to succeed, and having the right learning materials can have a critical impact on performance,” Michael Hansen , CEO, Cengage, said in a statement. “The high cost of textbooks have prohibited this for many students. This is why we launched Cengage Unlimited – to make quality learning more affordable. UNCF has helped thousands of learners, enabling opportunity for minority students through its financial support and public advocacy. We are proud to partner with UNCF to ease some of the financial burden these students face and ensure they are equipped with the tools they need to reach their full potential.” The leadership team at UNCF believes that this initiative will be instrumental in alleviating the financial burdens faced by HBCU students. “We must continue to invest our time and money in better futures for young people around the country. Andrew Glennon has been through A LOT with Amber Portwood. The reality stars have a baby son together, of course, which means they are bonded for life and have already been through the ups, downs and challenges of newborn parenthood. But Portwood also says she came close to hanging herself last summer, only for Glennon to recognize something was the matter with his wife and refuse to leave her side. Since then, Amber has continued to battle her mental health problems, while Andrew has remained by her side. However, everything came to a violent head for the twosome on the morning of July 5… when Amber was arrested for felony domestic violence after allegedly attacking Glennon with a shoe. And a machete . Fast forward just about a month and where does Glennon stand on the relationship? We're summarized his recent chat with Daily Mail TV below… 1. Okay. Let’s Go Over What Happened… Early on July 5, Andrew and Amber argued because, he claims, the couple and its son missed a July 4 fireworks show due to traffic and Amber blamed her boyfriend. 2. How Did Amber React? Poorly. She is accused of hurling a shoe at Glennon and of then threatening suicide. 3. More Than Just Threatening, Actually Glennon says Portwood swallowed a bunch of Klonopin pills, only to then throw them back up before it was too late. 4. Glennon Proceeded to Text 911 He told authorities that he feared for both his life and the life of his child. 5. This Wasn’t All, Though Glennon alleges that he locked himself and James in the bathroom, only for Amber to use an actual machete in her attempt to break down the door. 6. Source: Peter Cade / Getty Instagram Might Be Getting Rid Of Their Public Like Count Sometime Soon Some of us like to act like we don’t care about Instagram likes–and some of us actually, really don’t care. But others have built entire careers off the number of likes they can pull in per picture, so there’s definitely something important about the number under that little heart icon on all of our pictures. While the number of people who double tap certain photos seems pretty arbitrary, a lot of people are starting to think more and more that the attention we pay to social media can be harmful to our self-esteem, mental health, and other factors in our real life. That’s why Instagram could be getting rid of this feature for good. Instagram is expanding its test of a feature that hides their public “like” counts. The test began in Canada in back in April, and, starting on Wednesday, the test expanded to Ireland, Italy, Japan, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand. At this point, this is still just an experiment, and Instagram hasn’t said whether or not the feature will come to the US–but this gradual implementation into different areas could be the platform’s way of introducing a really big change. As for the tests going down in these 7 countries, Instagram users can opt out of the test, but it’s on by default. “Likes” aren’t shown in any public part of the app, including on public-facing grids or on the main feed, but the person who posted an image can still see the “like” count privately. After the initial idea was announced, Elle ran a story titled “Instagram Is Experimenting With Hiding Likes, Which Would Make It Much Harder to Be an Influencer,” which points out that brands care a lot more about hiring influencers with high engagement rates (a high percentage of likes compared to their follower count) on their posts than they do about how many followers someone has. On the contrary, marketing blogger Charles Tumotto Jackson argued that influencers would be fine — probably just pivoting to a higher reliance on Instagram Stories. That’s where they can use the swipe-up feature to link directly to purchasing pages, and “everything becomes measurable and even more transparent than it used to be.” Plus, like mentioned above, the influencers themselves can still see how many likes are being brought in, which is something they can show to a brand just like the back-end analytics already provides–proving once more that their business and livelihood probably won’t be affected by this change as much as people think. Whether you’re trying to build your influencer game or you just frequent the platform to see what your friends are up to: how do you feel about public “like” counts possibly being no more?
Amber Portwood is facing A LOT of trouble with the law. She has been charged with three felonies after allegedly attacking boyfriend Andrew Glennon… while he was holding their one-year old son… and she did so with a machete. Yes, a machete . As a result, Portwood has plenty to worry about moving forward. Will she return to jail, after spending 17 months behind bars in 2013 for an attack against ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley? Will she lose custody of little James, now that Andrew has filed for custody ? Will she be fired from Teen Mom OG? There’s very recent precedent for the latter to happen, as Jenelle Evans (Amber’s long-time rival) was given the boot by MTV just this past spring after her kids were taken away by the state in the wake of her own domestic violence scandal. So while we must leave the answers to the first two questions above to the legal system, we’re at least well-versed enough in the celebrity gossip universe to try our hands at the third. And that’s what we’re doing below. And that’s not just my way of spouting what the kids like to call a “hot take.” Hear me out: By most accounts, Amber is a mean, angry, violent person whose worst qualities have only been exacerbated by her life of ease and wealth. The only reason I would argue she should not be fired is that I firmly believe the time has come for MTV executives to take an even bigger step and cancel the Teen Mom franchise entirely. Yes, the time has come to bid adieu to reality TV’s most problematic series. We suppose you could make a case that that title belongs to 90 Day Fiance , but we get the feeling that Colt and Larissa’s relationship would have been just as f-cked without the presence of a camera crew. In the case of Teen Mom, however, it seems that wealth and fame have had overwhelmingly negative impacts on the lives of the stars and, more importantly, their children. No one embodies this phenomenon more than the OG of the OGs, Amber Portwood. And, so, there’s no more appropriate time to pull the plug on the whole failed experiment. Sure, it’s somewhat unfair to the other Teen Moms, who would be indirectly punished for Amber’s indiscretions, but with the possible exception of Chelsea Houska, are any of their hands really clean at this point? These shows have been on so ridiculously long that just about every cast member has been caught in some sort of deeply regrettable behavior at one point or another. And one thing that’s certain to cause even further damage to the Moms’ battered reputations would be continued involvement in a show that supports perpetrators of domestic violence. Which is why we encourage them to join us in calling for an end to Teen Mom OG, Teen Mom 2, Teen Mom Unplugged, and every other iteration on MTV’s dream board. YES by Simon Delott We really just need to rundown the facts here. Andrew Glennon has accused Amber Portwood of domestic violence… but not just from the nightmare that (allegedly) went down on July 5. According to Amber’s long-time boyfriend, she’s hit him before. She’s threatened him before. She’s also threatened to hurt, or even kill herself, before. To make matters worse, in this latest case, this entire horror show went down in front of the couple’s one-year old baby. Amber was reportedly so intent upon abusing her partner that she was willing to risk her own child’s well-being. Just think about that for a moment. Let’s not forget that this is not Amber’s first violent rodeo, either; she previously served prison time for a domestic violence arrest against Gary Shirley. Apparently, somehow, that still wasn’t enough to deter her from an alleged attack against her most recent baby daddy. There is no excuse, ever, for striking a loved one or a member of your family. We won’t question Andrew’s motives for staying as long as he did, but we’d encourage anyone who is hit by a partner — even once — to get out of that relationship as quickly and efficiently as possible. But back to this question: No, she shouldn’t appear on our screens any longer. She probably shouldn’t be allowed to care for her son again for a very long time again, either. YES by Hilton Hater It’s one thing to glorify the life of a teenage mother. This was the reason why the entire franchise came under fire early on, as many critics reacted in shock and horror to a show that gave a platform (and lots of money) to young women who had simply gotten pregnant by accident. Yes, a child is a blessing and all that stuff. And, no, I’m not here to shame any teenage mother. But almost no 16-year old is equipped for parenthood, the argument has gone, and a program such as Teen Mom runs the danger of making this situation almost attractive , promising fame and fortune to those who get pregnant at such a young age. However, we now have reality shows that glorify quickie weddings and engagements; that glorify drinking and arguing and fighting and being really rich and narcissistic and filming yourself having sex with Ray J and being overweight — and one needs to basically push for the elimination of reality television as a genre if one wants to eliminate Teen Mom from the fold. That may be an interesting question to ponder for some other time. For now, though, we’re just here to talk about Amber Portwood and this seems like a really obvious one. Like we said at the outset: It’s one thing to glorify the life of a teenage mother. It’s another thing to glorify the life of a (former) teenage mother with admitted mental health issues who is prone to violence, even in the wake of her young child. I wish Amber the best and I hope she receives the help she very clearly needs. But I hope she gets it without any cameras around.
Jed Wyatt, the subject of Bachelorette spoilers galore, finally decided to come forward and address his past month of scrutiny. Did he really just think all of it would just blow over? Did he think we’d forget how he went on The Bachelorette to win Hannah Brown’s heart while he had A GF BACK HOME ?! No, Jed. We didn’t forget. But we appreciate your overdue statement. Monday’s Bachelorette episode was hometowns , which is a really big deal because Hannah gets to meet the family of her final four men, which yes, includes Jed. But before all of Bachelor Nation continues to tear Jed apart following the episode, because let’s be real it pains us all to see his relationship further with Hannah at this point, he decided to ask for “kindness” from his followers on social media. Wyatt made a statement via Instagram on Monday where he basically asked for sympathy, though he said he is not able to directly address the claims at this time. “Hi ya’ll. Several of you have reached out with messages and questions,” his post began. “Please know I’m not able to answer right now, but as soon as I’m able to, I will.” “Until then, I ask that you please understand how much the actions being taken towards myself, my family, the men on the show, and above all, Hannah, are affecting all of our mental and physical health,” he shared. “It goes beyond what is said online,” he continues. “Threatening letters and phone calls have been sent to our homes. My parents and sister and being verbally attacked in public.” He then asks a simple favor of his followers. “I beg you to remember what seems like a harmless action is damaging to real people.” “I want to thank all of you who have reached out or reserved judgment until I am able to speak openly and I can only ask for your patience and kindness until then,” he concluded. While no one should ever be attacking anyone via phone or online (obviously!) Jed also should have realized early on what group of fans he signed up to deal with here! You never want to upset a room full of women (and yes, men too) under the influence of lots of red wine. In case you somehow missed the initial reports, they pretty much proved that Jed was dating Haley Stevens right before he left for the show. She even said in her statement, “He called me when he landed in L.A. He said, ‘I love you, and I’ll call you when I get back.” Stevens also mentioned how Jed only went on the show for his music career and that his plan only involved getting to the final four so he could get a good following. Well, Jed made it to the final four and while we pray it ends here, it looks like he has a very good chance of being the final suitor that gets down on one knee at the end of this thing. The songwriter has stayed extremely silent about the whole situation, maybe he is contractually obliged or maybe ABC has some live taping planned where Chris Harrison sits him down like he’s Oprah, who knows… But either way, it’s not fair to bring Jed’s family into this and we hope they will find peace following their son’s lousy move. And hopefully, we will be hearing from him soon so we can finally get his side of the argument!
