Conditions at the jail are so bad, the local sheriff now refuses to send arrestees there. https://t.co/vYvhKfdaEn — The Appeal (@theappeal) April 16, 2019 Family Of Jamycheal Mitchell Reaches $3 Million Settlement, Hampton Roads Regional Jail Being Investigated The family of a Virginia man who died in jail has been granted a settlement. Jamycheal Mitchell passed away at the Hampton Roads Regional Jail in Portsmouth, Virginia, on August 19, 2015. He was behind bars for months after he was arrested on charges of trespass and petit larceny for allegedly stealing a 2-liter bottle of Mountain Dew, a king size Snickers bar and a Zebra Cake which accumulated to about $5 worth of snacks from a 7-Eleven. The Appeal recently released an extensive story about Jamycheal’s alleged abuse in the jail. The website notes that Jaymycheal was ordered to receive mental health treatment after he was declared unfit to stand trial. The Virginia man had a history of severe mental disability including a diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. The treatment did not happen however and he was incarcerated at the Portsmouth correctional facility up until his death. He was allegedly treated poorly all the way up to his demise. “While incarcerated at the jail, correctional officers allegedly struck Mitchell on the knuckles with a flashlight, hurled profanities, mocked him, and called him “dirty,” all as punishment for being uncooperative. When Mitchell was found dead in his cell in August 2015, he was covered in urine. Portsmouth’s chief medical examiner said the cause of death was a “probable cardiac arrhythmia accompanying wasting syndrome of unknown etiology.” His family settled lawsuits against the jail and NaphCare, the company that provided medical services for the jail, for approximately $3 million. Now Hampton Roads Regional jail is continuing to be investigated and the DOJ threatened to sue them if they did not improve conditions in particular for those with mental health issues. The DOJ also criticized the incarceration of 62 people with severe mental illness at Hampton Roads who had booking histories of “minor offenses,” such as shoplifting, trespassing, and violating their probation. Unfortunately, the DOJ’s yet to take action, a delay that could possibly be in part because of the government shutdown. The Appeal reports; “In its December 2018 report, the DOJ gave the jail just over a month and a half to implement its recommendations. The agency also said it would sue if the jail did not “satisfactorily” improve its conditions during that time period. But when the deadline passed in February, the federal government had just emerged from the longest shutdown in history. As of early this month, the DOJ had not followed through on its threat to sue Hampton Roads. (The agency did not respond to The Appeal’s request for comment.) The jail continues to work with the DOJ on its recommendations, Hackworth said. He told The Appeal that he is awaiting more clarity from the agency on its more than 40 recommended remediations, such as auditing of administrative records regularly for completeness and accuracy, ensuring there are improved intake screenings and health assessments, and ending restrictive housing for people who say they are suicidal.” Now The Virginian Pilot reports that an unfortunate fight has broken out between Jamychael’s family members for the settlement money. Jamycheal’s mother’s side of the family is reportedly fighting with his father’s side. “The mother’s side argues they were closer to Jamycheal and deserve most, if not all, of the money. The mother believes she should receive the “majority,” with the half sister receiving a “reasonable” portion. The maternal half-sister wants an equal split between the two. The father’s side said they were all equally close to him. Therefore, they believe they should all receive equal portions: about $215,000 a person. We pray that Jamycheal’s family finds some middle ground and that the DOJ continues to look into a facility where 68 in-custody deaths took place between 2003 and 2018.

Yeezy’s Sunday Services are always a star-studded event, but in the name of Coachella, today’s performance is sure to have some insane surprises and special guests. Back in November, Alaskan Bush People stars Noah Brown and Rhain Alisha announced their pregnancy . This week, Noah and Rhain welcomed their baby boy — and have revealed his name. You can see an amazing photo of this Alaskan Bush Grandbaby, below. In a statement to People , the family shared the wonderful news. “Rhain and I are thrilled to announce the arrival of our son Elijah Connor Brown,” Noah proudly announces in a statement. Little baby Elijah was born on February 26. The wee one weighs in at 7 pounds 5 ounces and, at birth, measured 20 inches in length. “Mom and son are healthy and happy,” Noah adds. Speaking of his son, Noah says “he’s already working on his howl!” “Rhain is a wonderful mother already,” Noah praises. He continues: “I am truly in awe of her.” “And,” Noah affirms. “We are both very grateful and excited to welcome him to our family.” “He’s happy, healthy, and just perfect,” Rhain gushes with glee. That is so sweet!! And, thanks to Noah’s teenage sister Rain, we have a picture of the precious child. “Dear Elijah Conner, I first met you at 3:30am Tuesday February 26th,” Rain writes on Instagram. “And I will never be the same,” she says. “You have forever changed my heart,” Rain shares. “And I will spend the rest of my life protecting loving and teaching you all I know.” “May the road rise to meet you, and the wind always be at your back, and the rains fall softly on your fields,” Rain quotes. “May God hold you gently in the palm of his hand,” the quote concludes. “Love you Eli,” Rain gushes. “And I love you Noah and Rhain, you are amazing parents and you will only get better with time.” Speaking to People, Billy Brown celebrated becoming a grandfather. “The day is finally here,” he says excitedly. “We’re grandparents!” “Ami is over the moon and we all feel so blessed,” Billy says. There was a time when no one in the family believed that Ami would be alive today to expereince being a grandmother. “We can’t wait to meet the handsome young man,” Billy announces. “And have them all back on the mountain soon.” Noah has at times seemed to have a strained relationship with his family. Though happily engaged to Rhain, he already had a life in mind for himself and his fiancee. He has appeared as more of a guest star on recent seasons of Alaskan Bush People . It is perfeclty normal and healthy for an adult man to have his own life — and we somehow suspect that Billy and Ami aren’t complaining. Sure, they’re not seeing their son as much as they might like. But on the plus side, they got a grandbaby out of the deal! Sounds like a fair trade to us, you know? Congratulations are in order for the entire family, but especially for Noah and Rhain. Like one helicopter aviator who bravely landed his chopper on The Alps, a.k.a. the highest and most extensive mountain in Europe, in order to save an injured skier. Nicolas Derely , who’s a friend of the fallen skier, miraculously had enough bars on his phone to call for help and to record the pilot’s epic landing. CNN reports, A helicopter from the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne (French Mountain Police) delicately nudged its nose towards the steep slope. The pilot managed to plant the aircraft’s right landing skid into the snowy incline to allow three members of the rescue team to disembark and treat the injured man. The medics fitted a leg brace on Bruno before the helicopter returned to perform the daring procedure again. With the helicopter’s rotor blades just inches away from smashing into the snow, the skier was winched away to a nearby hospital. The injured skier is safe and recovering from his failed kneww. His friend, Nicolas, now has over 1 millions hits on Facebook thanks to the video. #WinWin
Danielle Mullins Jbali may have been replaced by a slew of new 90 Day Fiance stars , but she still has her fans. And she’s now turning to those fans for help with a crisis. She is asking her fans and followers to help her out of a tight spot — to the tune of $5,000. Danielle Mullins has taken to Facebook to issue a plea to her fans who have stuck with her since her time on 90 Day Fiance . “I feel like no matter what I do,” Danielle shares. “I can never get ahead.” A lot of people feel that way these days. It’s been a couple of generations since the minimum wage was, as originally intended, enough for people to survive. “I am trying to go to school to better myself and get a better job,” Danielle writes. “I have even had to get another job,” she shares. “Because the employer I work for now cut my hours to 20 hours…” Danielle is currently at risk of losing her home. “I bought this trailer,” she shares. “Hoping that it would be a home for me and my girls.” Now, Danielle reveals, “I will probably have to leave my home.” Heartbreaking — and not what you expect to hear from a reality star. Danielle explains that this is “because I had some financial issues the last few months and got behind on my lot rent.” The Ashley got a hold of a screencap from Danielle’s private Facebook page. “The trailer park I rent my lot from won’t take partial payments,” she explains, adding that it “charges me to have our dogs.” Charing someone extra for them to have dogs on a plot of ground sounds like an excuse to make money. “And,” Danielle claims, the park “has harassed my guests all summer when they park on the road.” We’re not sure where they’re supposed to park, but we’d suggest that they park there, instead. “They took me to court,” she reveals. “And I managed to come up with lot rent and the past due amount, the court costs, and more.” But her problems were not solved. Danielle writes: “and likely they won’t accept it.” “I work my tail off doing Cameos [which are made-to-order videos for fans, by the way],” Danielle mentions. She continues: “what hours I work, promoting products and selling autographs to come up with money.” “We will probably have to leave my home ’til I can come up with the money to move it,” she laments. A residential trailer isn’t an RV that you can just drive to a new location. Danielle implores her fans and followers: “please pray for me and my girls.” If you’re thinking that Danielle must have been spending recklessly to fall behind that way … you are mistaken. “I got behind on lot rent for my home that I own,” Danielle wrote elsewhere. “I have had two replace one of my bathroom floors due to black mold,” she shared. “I had two water line breaks, and then my hours got cut,” Danielle explained. She continued: “The mobile home park took me to court and I came up with the money but it is the matter of them accepting it or not.” Sometimes, a landlord would prefer that you just leave if they don’t believe that you’ll pay reliably. “If they don’t accept it,” Danielle says. “I will have to leave the home I own and find a way to move my trailer out of the park.” Danielle Mullins’ GoFundMe page tells her story: “Danielle went back to school, took on a second job, and is trying to do the right thing,” the page says.
