It’s Thursday and Oz The Great and Powerful has topped $300 million worldwide at box office, according to Deadline . So, the Franco File is going to celebrate with a clip of what is arguably the best part of the movie: the black-and-white pre-CGI opening credits sequence. Alas, there’s no footage of our hero, the artist James Franco half-assing it through the Emerald City, as David Edelstein might put it , or yelling “Look at this shit!” over and over at the Alamo Drafthouse. But his name is prominently displayed in old-school fashion right at the beginning of this thing, with lots of hypno-wheels spinning in the background — which is exactly how we think of James. Enjoy. Here’s a bit of Magic City casting news that should have you pulling a magic wand out of your pants- Sherilyn Fenn will be a regular on the show’s second season. The nudity strewn gangster drama has been a constant source of skinspiration since its bush baring opening credits first rolled, and it seems like the perfect place for Ms. Fenn to break her 17-year nudity dry spell. After starting her showbiz career as a Playboy Club bunny, Sherilyn took a starmaking turn in the wooded weirdness of Twin Peaks . Her topless debut came in the 80’s horror flick The Wraith (1986), and soon after she went full frontal for the country fried romance Two Moon Junction (1988). Now 20 years after she infiltrated the Twin Peaks brothel, One-Eyed Jack’s, she’s heading back to the cat house as a former call-girl who now runs her own brothel in the second season of Magic City . Sherilyn will play Madame Renee, an ally and confidant of her main investor, Ben Diamond ( Danny Huston ). Here at Skin Central we’d be willing to pay any price for another look at those fantastic Fenn funbags. Magic City’s second season debuts in 2013, and we have only the highest of hopes for the TITanic twin peaks on Sherilyn’s chest. Winking and bopping and hip-swiveling from its opening credits to its last gasp, Kim Jee-won’s lo mein western The Good, the Bad, the Weird is an entrancing study in excess. As the camera swoops alongside through 1930s Manchuria to a hurtling locomotive about to be beset by multiple heists, you can just feel Quentin Tarantino’s zipper strain. It’s safe to say this is the first Chinese western (albeit a Korean film) — not a “Chinese western” as the wuxia pian martial arts epics are sometimes called, but a western with outlaws, hired guns, frontier trains, shoot-outs, desert towns and cowboy hats, as genre-genuine as Clint Eastwood’s poncho. Which, of course, is Italian.
