I don’t usually do many posts on Malin Akerman these days, but these pictures of her in the latest issue of Maxim Australia are too hot to be ignored. And while I’ve seen a lot of things in my years on this site, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a gorilla suit handbra. I’m impressed, and definitely a little jealous. So yes, add “sweaty dude in a gorilla suit” to weird stuff I’ve been jealous of in the past few weeks, along with a Spongebob statue and a dolphin . I’m not proud of any of this. After a troubled, 20-year road from script-development to screen, Passion Play is coming to select theaters. Then, just in case you blink, it will hit DVD three weeks later . Word of mouth out of Toronto was that the film was a disaster, and the theater-to-DVD release window pretty much backs that up. But after watching the trailer, I can’t help but wonder: Can a film with Mickey Rourke falling in love with an angel played by Megan Fox while trying not to get killed by Bill Murray be totally worthless?
Judd Apatow flick would be Fox’s first studio film since leaving ‘Transformers’ last year. By Eric Ditzian Megan Fox Photo: Jean Baptiste Lacroix/ Getty Images In what would mark her return to studio filmmaking after departing the “Transformers” franchise last May, Megan Fox is reportedly in negotiations to join Judd Apatow’s upcoming Universal comedy . According to The Hollywood Reporter , Fox is eyeing a co-starring role in the project, which is a spin-off of “Knocked Up” and will have Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann reprising their characters from the hit 2007 comedy. Her potential role, at this point, is being kept a secret. MTV News’ request for comment from Fox’s rep was not immediately returned. The production would be Fox’s first studio flick after parting ways with Paramount and “Transformers” last year. At that point, she’d already wrapped “Jonah Hex,” which went on to bomb at the box office, and “Passion Play,” which never received a theatrical release. Since then, she’s stepped in front of the camera for Jennifer Westfeldt’s indie “Friends With Benefits.” At the Oscars last month, Apatow told us the as-yet-untitled comedy was currently in rehearsals and that the story will take place four or five years after the events of “Knocked Up” (though in the vein of “Get Him to the Greek” after “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” the new comedy won’t be a sequel). “The rest is a secret because it doesn’t come out until 2012 and if you already knew what it was about for a year and a half, you wouldn’t even want to see it,” he laughed. We can, however, expect that, as Apatow put it, “some familiar people” will show up in the new flick. Perhaps by now, “Knocked Up” star Seth Rogen has heard if his services will be needed, because when we asked the actor about it in January, he had no idea. “[Judd] mentioned it to me off-handedly a year ago, and then I just read about it just like everybody else. I was like, ‘Oh man, it looks like it’s really happening,’ ” Rogen explained. “So, I don’t know,” he added. “I’m going to call him today and see what the deal is.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
So the winged woman-meets-jazz trumpeter romantic fable Passion Play premiered Friday night here in Toronto, and say what you will about the headscrather of a story, the vision of Mickey Rourke in a love scene with Megan Fox — with wings — or Bill Murray’s hairpiece-aided deadpan gangster cutthroat. But nearly two decades after screenwriter Mitch Glazer began developing his directing debut (inspired in part by his wife, actress Kelly Lynch), it’s ultimate realization — with this cast on this stage all at once — prompts one to ask what’s worth waiting 20 years for? I mean, even Avatar only took 12 or so. Glazer and Lynch met Movieline this weekend to discuss.
Bummed you won’t be in the audience for tonight’s world premiere of Passion Play at the Toronto International Film Festival? Here’s some consolation. The first clip of Mitch Glazer’s Southern-set drama has appeared online and it answers this question: What would Mickey Rourke’s face look like if he saw Megan Fox sprout wings? Click ahead to find out.
‘I haven’t done the same thing twice, and I want to keep moving in that direction,’ ‘Jonah Hex’ actress tells MTV News. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Megan Fox Photo: Bill Sloyer/ MTV News Sometimes, it’s hard to fathom that Megan Fox ‘s prominent place in the pop-culture conversation only dates back to her 2007 breakout role as Mikaela Banes in director Michael Bay’s “Transformers.” Since then, she’s appeared in four films and has two more completed projects on the way, including this weekend’s “Jonah Hex.” And if Fox has her way, she’ll be kicking around on the big screen for several more years to come. “If I’m lucky enough,” Fox told MTV News about her hopes to make her acting career a longtime commitment. “I mean, I would love the opportunity to do that. But that’s not really up to me; that’s up to the world.” Surely, the world would throw its support behind Fox’s desires to stay on the big screen, if only because of her incredibly entertaining offscreen antics (see: her notorious Michael Bay feud ). But Fox doesn’t believe she’s a provocative personality , so much as a misinterpreted one. “I don’t feel like I’ve ever necessarily said anything that was provocative,” she said. “I think that people take relatively innocent statements and turn them into provocative things. … People have no idea how to react. It’s not that the statement itself is outrageous.” As for what the future holds for Fox aside from “Jonah Hex,” the actress will be seen opposite Mickey Rourke in “Passion Play,” a film in which she plays a winged circus performer. Additionally, she remains attached to “Fathom,” an action film based on the comic book created by the late Michael Turner. Beyond those commitments, Fox has only one concrete plan: mixing it up. “I don’t have anything specific, like, a specific genre film that I want to do,” she said. “I just want to keep doing things that are completely different, because so far, I haven’t done the same thing twice, and I want to keep moving in that direction.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Jonah Hex.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . ‘Mickey is such a beautiful, wonderful human being,’ she tells MTV News of her ‘Passion Play’ co-star. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Megan Fox Photo: MTV News Megan Fox has enjoyed her fair share of high-concept movie roles in the past several years, with characters ranging from a demonic succubus in “Jennifer’s Body” to a gun-slinging prostitute in “Jonah Hex.” But her upcoming turn as a winged circus freak in director Mitch Glazer’s “Passion Play” might be her most surreal yet — thanks largely to the assistance of co-star Mickey Rourke. “Mickey is such a beautiful, wonderful human being,” Fox told MTV News. “He’s so genuine and so sweet and so talented. I just love him to death. I kept telling him that he needs to have kids, because I think he’s going to be an amazing dad. I hope he does that soon.” The words “genuine and sweet” might not be the first to come to mind for moviegoers who know Rourke best for his menacing turns in “Iron Man 2,” “The Wrestler” and “Sin City.” But Fox confessed that she feels a bond with Rourke because they are both celebrities who march to the beat of own drummers and say what they feel. In fact, Fox’s admiration for Rourke goes so far that she got inked up in his honor. “I actually got a tattoo that is sort of in honor of him,” she revealed. “It’s on my ribs. I don’t know if it’s been photographed yet, but it’ll come out eventually, I’m sure. I just love him very much and think he’s very special.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . After leaving ‘Transformers 3’ behind, upcoming roles for the actress include ‘Jonah Hex,’ ‘Passion Play’ and more. By Josh Wigler Megan Fox in a poster for “Jonah Hex” Photo: Warner Bros. There are conflicting reports regarding exactly why “Transformers 3” will proceed without Megan Fox in the passenger seat, with some indicating that Fox was dropped from the picture , while representatives for the actress insist that “it was her decision not to return.” Regardless of the reason, Fox is out of the picture — no more Mikaela Banes for Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Witwicky. But even with the “Transformers” franchise out of her life, Fox still has plenty of work in the pipeline. From high-profile action flicks to lower-budget indie fare and even a few rumored projects, the 24-year-old actress won’t be wanting for work now that her Michael Bay days are behind her. Fox is heading back to the big screen sooner than you might realize with next month’s “Jonah Hex,” director Jimmy Hayward’s adaptation of the DC Comics series about a scarred gunslinger (Josh Brolin) seeking vengeance on the man who killed his family. Fox plays Leila, a gun-toting prostitute and confidant of Brolin’s Hex who finds herself entangled in the Civil War veteran’s quest for revenge. “Jonah Hex” hits theaters on June 18. Additionally, Fox has already finished filming a considerably smaller-scale project called “Passion Play,” written and directed by “Scrooged” screenwriter Mitch Glazer. Fox stars as Lily, a caged circus freak with angelic wings growing from her back. A troubled trumpet player (Mickey Rourke) saves Lily from the clutches of gangster Happy Shannon (Bill Murray), provoking a relationship Fox described to MTV News as “clearly not going to be a typical [love story].” The actress is attached to other projects as well, including “The Crossing,” a thriller from writers Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Fox will star as part of a couple returning from a vacation in Mexico when their car is jacked and her husband is kidnapped. Fox’s character is subsequently forced to smuggle heroin across the border in order to save her husband’s life. Perhaps the film with the most personal investment for Fox is “Fathom,” based on the Aspen Comics series created by the late Michael Turner. The story focuses on Aspen Matthews, a marine biology graduate who unknowingly comes from a race of humanoid ocean dwellers known as the Blue. Fox has repeatedly stated that she’s a lifelong fan of “Fathom,” telling MTV News: “I want someone who loves her and loves the comic to play her. … I was sort of fiercely protective of it, because I didn’t want it played by someone who doesn’t give a sh– about it.” Beyond her actual commitments and attachments, Fox has been rumored for a wide variety of other movies including “Red Sonja,” a comic book adaptation about a fierce female warrior. The project was previously developed by Robert Rodriguez with Rose McGowan in the title role, though recent reports suggested Fox would take over the role. The actress’s representatives have denied her involvement with the project .
