Amy Adams’ Rep Calls Valentino Funeral PR Stunt "Truly Appalling"

Amy Adams attended Philip Seymour Hoffman ‘s funeral last week Valentino made the mistake of using the event as a way to promote of one of their luxury handbags. The fashion house sent an email announcing their new Garavani Rockstud Duble bag after Adams toted it to the late actor’s wake.  Now Adams’ rep is speaking out against the tasteless stunt, saying: “Amy Adams is not a paid spokesperson for Valentino, and the suggestion she would use this moment to participate in a promotion is truly appalling.”  Valentino Apologizes For Amy Adams PR Blast From Philip Seymour Hoffman Wake A rep for Valentino expressed regret for the gaffe in a statement that read: “We sincerely regret releasing a photo to the media this morning of Amy Adams with a Valentino bag.” “We were not aware the photograph was taken while she was attending the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was an innocent mistake, and we apologize to Ms. Adams, who was not aware, or a part of, our P.R. efforts,” spokesperson Mona Swanson went on.  Let this tacky fashion faux pas now known as “bag-gate” be a lesson to PR companies out there.

Philip Seymour Hoffman to Be Digitally Added to Mockingjay Part 2

At the time of his death, Philip Seymour Hoffman had completed filming on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. But the actor – who came on board Catching Fire in the role of head gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee – still had a few scenes remaining when he died of a heroin overdose last week. According to Page Six, however, Lionsgate will not recast the actor or even cut key scenes from the final installment of The Hunger Games franchise. They will actually add him in via CGI . “You can do digital things, you can have conversations where you’re not focusing on him but the people he’s talking to,” an insider tells The Hollywood Reporter of how this will be accomplished. It should be interesting to see, although very sad, of course, that it needs to be done. Appearing on Today this week, Elizabth Banks expressed surprise and sadness over the loss of her big screen co-star. “I really am in shock,” she said. “He is an absolutely amazing actor, respected by everyone and part of our family at The Hunger Games.” Philip Seymour Hoffman Photos: Through the Years Open Slideshow 1. Britney Spears and Lady Gaga: Backstage Bonding in Vegas!

Pop princesses of the world unite! Lady Gaga supported her fellow mega-star Britney Spears by catching her “Piece of Me” show in Las Vegas. And Mother Monster snapped an adorable pic of the two ladies just chillin’ backstage, being their fabulous and super-famous selves.  “She looked so gorgeous, the show was so much fun, and her dad gave us THE BEST BBQ. It was a #MonsterParty !” the “Applause” singer captioned the photo.  Hey, we want in on some of this kind of monster party. And some Spears BBQ wouldn’t be too bad, either. Seriously, can we get on a list?  Brit Brit kicked off her Planet Hollywood residency in Vegas this past December. She’ll be performing there for two years and nearly 100 concerts. It’s been reported that she’s been lip-syncing her set , but, hey, if the show’s good enough for Gaga, it’s good enough for us!

Philip Seymour Hoffman: Deadly Heroin Strain to Blame For Overdose?

Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death appears to be heroin related, according to investigators, though the cause of the actor’s death has not been made official. Officials confirmed Philip Seymour Hoffman dead Sunday at his New York apartment and a deadly strain of the drug as one of the operating theories. To be clear, law enforcement sources do not know any specifics about the heroin found in the Manhattan apartment where Seymour died at the age of 46.  There were 10 bags found of the drug, however, eight of them empty. Here’s where it gets particularly interesting (and very scary): Authorities have been tracking a new strain of heroin that has killed dozens on the East Coast. Already in 2014, the heroin laced with fentanyl – an extremely potent drug prescribed for terminal cancer patients – has been making the deadly rounds. The strain is 100 times more powerful than morphine , according TMZ, and is so potent that it sometimes shuts down the respiratory system altogether. Sometimes called “Theraflu,” “Bud Ice” and “24K,” the heroin strain has been linked to five deaths on Long Island, 22 in Pennsylvania and 19 on Rhode Island. That’s all in January 2014. It’s become a major thing of late. We reiterate that police are not saying this is what caused Hoffman’s death, but officials say “everything’s in play” until they get results from toxicology. We’ll have those results for you when we know them. R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman Photos: Through the Years Open Slideshow 1. WATCH: Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master Gets a New Riveting Teaser

Paul Thomas Anderson ‘s The Master continues to intrigue with the latest teaser revealing a look at Philip Seymour Hoffman as the enigmatic figure Joaquin Phoenix encounters — a mustachioed character who, in a new teaser entitled “Hopelessly Inquisitive,” describes himself as “a writer, a doctor, a nuclear physicist, a theoretical philosopher” and stands poised in startling contrast to the skulking Phoenix. Though it feels as if pieces of Anderson’s plot haven’t yet fallen completely in to place, the film follows “the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as ‘the Master’ (Hoffman) whose faith-based organization begins to catch on in America, and a young drifter who becomes his right-hand man (Phoenix).” But even with an elusive collection of revealed character motivations and set-up, the clips revealed thus far for the period drama have been utterly enthralling. Phoenix’s physicality alone, glimpsed in the briefest of scenes here, is animalistic and transformed, whether he’s emerging from the landscape to hitch a ride on a passing truck or roaring in Hoffman’s face, “I know you’re trying to calm me down, but just say something that’s true!” In other words: It doesn’t really matter what The Master is about, or if it has anything or nothing at all to do with Scientology , does it? Damon Lindelof on Prometheus’s Ending and a Handy, Spoilery Alien Infographic

The Prometheus post-mortem continues (really, the fact that it’s still provoking discourse says something… right?) with screenwriter Damon Lindelof talking end-of-movie spoilers with TIME Magazine. Namely, what does it mean that you-know-who does you-know-what with the whatsit at the end? Kidding! Dive in to hear the LOST veteran address the certain future of our heroes, plus: An infographic that breaks down Prometheus ‘s DNA in one handy chart. Spoilers throughout! First up, TIME talks with Lindelof about the smoke monster. I mean the android, David (Michael Fassbender), who pulls some seriously heinous moves in Prometheus at the behest of one master, only to seemingly switch allegiances at the end. Can Shaw (Noomi Rapace) trust David’s head to direct her where she wants to go, i.e. the space beyond space, from whence the Engineers of doom hail? Lindelof says yes, because David has a robot crush on her . I think they’re going where she wants to go. His fundamental programming has been scrapped. Weyland [the man who built and programmed him] is dead and so now his programming is coming from God knows where. Is he being programmed by Elizabeth, or is it his own internal curiosity now that Weyland isn’t telling him what to do any more? He’s always been interested in Elizabeth, remember that: He’s watching her dreams when she’s sleeping in much the same way that he watches Lawrence of Arabia . He’s a strange robot that has a curious crush on a human being , and when Weyland is eliminated, I think he is genuinely interested in what she’s interested in. He reaches out partly for survival, but partly out of curiosity, and I think he’s sincere that he’ll take her wherever she wants to go. Right. Well, interspecies relations have taken stranger routes in the Alien universe. Speaking of which, artist Carlos Poon whipped up a handy infographic (via the folks at Dangerous Minds ) to help your brain keep track of the origins of species in Prometheus . Alright gang, mysteries solved! Right? RIIIIGHT?? [ TIME , Dangerous Minds ]

Catching Fire Casting: Philip Seymour Hoffman in for Hunger Games Sequel?

After inheriting the reins of the Hunger Games franchise from director Gary Ross, Francis Lawrence is making casting moves as the YA series sequel, Catching Fire , comes into view. According to THR, the first new cast addition may be Philip Seymour Hoffman , who has reportedly been offered a key role that will figure into the next two installments in the franchise: New Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. If you recall, Wes Bentley’s Seneca Crane didn’t fare so well at the end of The Hunger Games, having failed to do his job in allowing Katniss Everdeen to become a symbol for rebellion. His position now vacated, Crane is replaced in Catching Fire by Heavensbee, who has a few surprises of his own to reveal. If you’ve read the books or know what happens in Catching Fire and beyond, the casting of this character in particular is all more intriguing, given what transpires in the plot-heavy next installments. Without spoiling it, I’ll just say this: Seeing someone of Hoffman’s caliber in the role makes Catching Fire (and the trilogy-ender Mockingjay) very promising, indeed. No confirmation yet as to whether or not Hoffman is a go for Plutarch Heavensbee; filming, meanwhile, is set to begin in September. [ THR ]
