The Voice Winner: Crowned! Controversial!

… And then there was one. Major source of controversy and annoyance on The Voice, that is. On Tuesday night’s season finale of this beloved NBC singing competition, Blake Shelton and John Legend’s teams battled it out one last time. Maelyn Jarmon represented the latter, while Team Blake was filled with a trio of impressive country artists: Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts and Andrew Sevener. Only one member of this concluding quartet could come out on top in the end, of course, so roll that drum of yours and prepare to learn the answer in 3… 2… 1: CONGRATULATIONS TO MAELYN JARMON!  The 26-year-old singer — who has become known for her powerhouse vocals — delivered Legend his first-ever The Voice victory, adding to a list of accomplishments for the superstar that includes an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. But this night wasn’t about Legend, of course. It was about his protege, Jarmon. “I really love Blake and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know him this year. He’s a very arrogant bastard,” Legend told reporters at the winner’s press conference following the show, adding: “I had a feeling he was going to kiss someone’s ass after this show and I was right.” Thanks to Jarmon, of course. She surprised many viewers by defeating Rigdon, who finished in second place; along with Roberts, who placed third; and Sevener, who placed fourth. Ever since the blind auditions, Jarmon has captured the attention of the coaches and viewers across the globe with her amazing voice and inspiring story. At two years old, Jarmon had tubes inserted into her ears to treat recurring ear infections. Sadly, the tubes ended up damaging her eardrums and left her deaf in her right ear and with only 80% hearing in the left ear. Still, she fought on and overcame extraordinary odds to follow a career in music. “I’ve considered it a superpower since I was young,” she told reporters on Monday night ahead of the finale. “It was never discussed as a disability through my house. It was never really talked about much at all. What a great attitude, right? And yet… many fans of the show did not feel great about the final vote. They took to social media to vent about the outcome. “This is a crock of crap. Andrew Sevener was better than the rest of the finalists,” wrote one angry Tweeter, while another thought Shelton was “ROBBED.” Seems a bit harsh, right? Do you agree with these assessments? Or do you think the right artist was crowned The Voice champion? The star-studded finale also featured performances by Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie, BTS, the Jonas Brothers, Halsey, Khalid, OneRepublic and Hootie & the Blowfish. Adam Levine, meanwhile, had predicted Jarmon would win — while we simply remain in awe of her positive view in light of all she has been faced with in her life. “I didn’t know how [the show] was going to turn out because I had never been on this kind of platform or worked with in-ears before and that had its own challenges,” she continued to the press prior to the finale. Concluded Jarmon at this time: “Last week, my in-ears went out halfway through my performance, and I couldn’t hear anything anymore. When that has happened to me before this show because I sometimes can’t hear, I’ll go based off feeling. “I was able to do that in that moment because of my practice with that in the past. It has been, sometimes, an issue but mostly an advantage.” This is a deserving winner. Don’t you concur?

Artie Lange: Arrested For Drug Court Violation After 100 Days of Sobriety

Sad news out of the comedy world today, as Radar Online is reporting that troubled comic Artie Lange is headed back to jail following an unspecified probation violation. The news comes just two days after Lange tweeted an encouraging update about his sobriety. “Lange is non-compliant,” said a spokesperson for the Essex County Sheriff’s Office in New Jersey. “Consequently, he will be taken into custody by officers from the Essex County Sheriff’s Office,” the official added. “He will be returned to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.” The representative added that reports of Lange’s progress and commitment to sobriety have been exaggerated, saying: “All the stories gave the impression he was doing great, but that is not the case.” Those positive progress reports included a tweet on Friday that showed Lange, smiling and holding Howard Stern’s latest memoir while working at a New Jersey gas station. “Pumping gas and reading Howard Sterns new book, which is great by the way,” a rep for Lange tweeted on the comic’s behalf. “I read in 2004 Trump interview with me there. I’m reading about the POTUS when a guy yells at me ‘yo fill it with regular’ lol, my crazy life!” Lange was a co-host on Stern’s satellite radio show for several years before being let go as a result of his substance abuse issues. During his press tour for the book, Stern confessed that he felt guilty for firing Lange at a time when his friend was most in need of support. “I get sad talking about Artie. He was a tremendous contributor. But we had to move on,” Stern told The New York Times . “I got my fingers crossed for the guy. And it wasn’t a clean break.” Clearly, Stern joins Lange’s many thousands of loyal fans and comedy colleagues in hoping for the best for Artie — and being continually disappointed by developments like today’s. Lange has been arrested numerous times over the course of the past three years, and on each occasion, his brushes with the law seemed to serve as needed wake up calls. Artie was most recently released from jail  in February, and he immediately headed to an in-patient rehab clinic. He was unable to use social media during his time in treatment, but with the help of friends and representatives, he was able to post encouraging messages about his commitment to recovery. The 51-year-old comic had reportedly accumulated 111 days of sobriety before his latest violation. Our thoughts go out to Lange and his loved ones during this difficult time. Chris Harrison Claps Back at Kelly Ripa: My "Disgusting" Shows Pay Your Salary!

Earlier this week,  Kelly Ripa offered her opinion on The Bachelorette — and the usually-bubbly morning show host did not hold back in her harsh assessment of ABC’s lucrative reality franchise. “You guys, you know how I feel about the show, it disgusts me,” Ripa said during Tuesday’s Live With Kelly and Ryan . “I can’t stand the idea of 25 exceptional women fighting over one ordinary fella, in my opinion,” she added. “You know how I feel, ladies, we are too special to be arguing over a guy.” Ripa then pointed the finger at her studio audience, blaming them for the show’s popularity. “All of you women watch that gross, gross show,” she said. It was The Bachelorette that prompted Ripa’s rant, but asked about The Bachelor, she stated her belief that the OG dating competition is “just as creepy.” “It’s all creepy,” Ripa concluded, summing up her thoughts on the long-running franchise. For obvious reasons, the show’s host, Chris Harrison, and creator, Mike Fleiss, were none too thrilled with Ripa’s remarks. And both took to Twitter to share their thoughts about their fellow ABC employee. Harrison was up first, and he went full scorched-earth by siccing his followers on Ripa: “Look out #BachelorNation Kelly Ripa is coming after you and your ‘disgusting’ Monday night habit,” he tweeted. Ripa never responded, but you can bet her mentions lit up like a Christmas tree after that one. Anyone who remembers Mike Fleiss’ feud with Khloe Kardashian knows that he’s not your typical showrunner. Fleiss once again cemented his place as one of the most outspoken figures in modern media when he suggested that Ripa wouldn’t have a job if it weren’t for him. “Easy, Kelly Ripa,” he wrote. “The Bachelor franchise pays your salary.” Harsh, but not without some basis in fact. After all, The Bachelor and The Bachelorette both draw audiences that are several larger than Ripa’s, and without such primetime juggernauts, the network would likely be forced to make some cuts. Sadly, current series star Hannah Brown has yet to speak out on Ripa’s commentary. Of course, with all the Bachelorette hot takes flying around this week, she certainly wouldn’t be able to respond to everything. No one can remain in Beast Mode at all times. This is a thorny debate, and if you find yourself wanting to know what happens on the show without actually tuning in, you can always check out our Bachelorette spoilers ! Selena Gomez: Social Media is POISON for My Generation!

Selena Gomez has a massive social media following, even if she only uploads photos occassionally, usually for special events . Social media has been very good to her, but she is the first to admit that her experience is not universal. In fact, Selena says that social media can be intensely toxic to the young people who use it the most. Selena Gomez spoke at the Cannes Film Festival, where she is promoting her new film, The Dead Don’t Die . She admits that she is “scared” of social media’s effects on the youngest internet denizens. “They’re not aware of the news or anything going on,” Selena said in the press conference. “It’s selfish — I don’t wanna say selfish because it feels rude,” she quickly corrected. “But it’s dangerous for sure.” While social media can help others connect with friends and others with whom they have a lot in common, it can hurt self esteem and enable bullying. “I think our world is going through a lot, obviously,” Selena added. “But for my generation, specifically,” she continued. “Social media has been terrible.” Millennials who were already adults or near-adults when Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram launched may feel differently. Selena lamented that it is now “impossible” to guarantee that any social media is 100% safe for all users. She noted that she tries to remain conscious of the younger members of her audience whenever she posts. Selena explained that she always seeks to avoid putting pressure on teens and tweens with her photos and text posts. Keep in mind that Selena, one of the most followed people on the planet, is not biting the hand that feeds her. “I’m very grateful I have the platform in any way,” Selena clarified. “I can still share things I’m passionate about,” she affirmed. “I don’t do a lot of pointless pictures,” Selena noted. She is referring to how many influencers share almost excessive photos to create more Content(TM) for Engagement(TM). “I like to be intentional with it,” she explained. “I see these young girls,” Selena described. “I’ll meet them,” she continued. “And they’re just devastated dealing with bullying and not being able to have their own voice.” In-person cruelty when you’re young is bad enough. It shouldn’t follow you when you’re on your own home, using social media. “It can be great in moments,” Selena acknowledged. “But,” she said. “I would just be careful and allow yourself some time limits when you should use it and when not.” Selena has spoken on this important topic before. “It is not that healthy to be on [social media] all the time,” she observed. Some people aren’t impacted by bullying online, of course. Others use social media for work. But in general, we all need a break from time to time. “I noticed with me,” Selena cited. “I got kind of depressed looking at these people who look beautiful and amazing.” Selena, girl, you look beautiful and amazing! “And it would just get me down a lot,” Selena admitted. “Taking breaks is really important,” she affirmed. “Just know that most of it isn’t real,” Selena advised her youngest fans of what they see on social media. “And I hate to say that, I don’t mean to be rude,” Selena politely added. “But it’s very unrealistic in a lot of ways.” That’s true. Fortunately, a lot of people — even famous people — have found ways to clap back at those who attack them online. View Slideshow: 29 Stars Who Shamed Their Body-Shamers

Roc Nation Submits Evidence Against Judge Brinkley’s Lawyer In Meek Mill Case

Source: Meek Mill 2011 MTV2 Sucker Free Awards held at Fountainbleau Hotel Miami Beach, Florida – 11.11.11 Featuring: Meek Mill Where: Miami Beach, Florida, United States When: 11 Nov 2011 Credit: WENN  The legal battle behind Meek Mill’s unjust allegeldy probation violation sentencing continues. His team has presented new facts that justify the obvious. Complex is reporting that Roc Nation has submitted new evidence that proves that they were not trying to falsify statements from A. Charles Peruto Jr, the lawyer representing the judge overseeing Meek’s case. In late 2018 the attorney filed a suit against the management agency and Amazon over his appearance in the Free Meek documentary. He volunteered to appear in the film to formally discuss the case but was caught talking reckless. He admitted that Brinkley appeared to look “f***ing awful” for not granting the MMG rapper a new case. Charles also flatly said defending her was difficult given her rulings exposed as being biased against the Philadelphia MC. Peruto filed a lawsuit against the two companies claiming the audio was altered. The court documents stated “These illegally intercepted and digitized oral communications were then edited and leaked to the press so that Peruto’s off the record words would be manipulated against him and his client, Judge Brinkley”. Well the Roc is stood ten toes down on their claims and have since hired experts that have verified that the off the record statements were not doctored. “Even though they are recompressed into different formats, their content accurately reflects the dialogue recorded in the original evidence files” the new filings read. Presiding judge on the Roc Nation / Amazon suit, Judge McHugh, will soon rule if Peruto’s lawsuit can proceed or will be dismissed. — Photo: Brian Stukes/Getty Images

Meghan Markle: Did She Choose an "Unusual" American Name for Baby Boy?

Well, as you’ve no doubt heard by now, Meghan Markle welcomed her first child today. Based on his comments to the press, we know that Prince Harry is excited about fatherhood , but Meghan is still lying low, recovering, and spending time with her bouncing baby boy. Of course, royal-watchers are all over the world are overjoyed with the news that the delivery went smoothly, and both mother and son are resting comfortably. But many also find themselves consumed by burning questions. Sure, some of the big ones were answered today, but several others remain — including the all-important mystery of what Meghan and Harry will name their child . As is always the case with this sort of thing, the question of the baby’s name means big business for the global gambling community, with thousands placing their bets on the favorites. The most common predictions are names that have traditionally been favored by the royals — Arthur, Henry, George, and the like. But this time around, several dark horse candidates have proven to be popular and it seems that’s all thanks to Meghan. Yes, many believe that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will break with tradition in order to honor Meghan’s American roots. One prominent purveyor of this theory is royal expert Victoria Arbiter, who repeated her hypothesis to CBS this week just prior to the announcement that Meghan had welcomed a boy” “I don’t have an inside track on the actual name but I think when it comes to names we are looking at a very strong name because that is who Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are,” Arbiter said. “But I also think we are going to see a name that works on both sides of the pond. “For example, something like Eleanor, Eleanor of Aquitaine was a 12th-century queen, she was highly influential and well respected.” Obviously, that one went out the window as soon as we realized we were dealing with a prince and not a princess. (Although if Meghan and Harry wanted to defy convention, naming a boy Eleanor would certainly do the trick.) Fortunately, Victoria had some theories regarding boys’ names, too: “When we come to boys Alexandra is the Queen’s middle name, Alexander is the masculine form,” Arbiter added. “Alexander Hamilton is one of the founding fathers in the US,” she continued. “So I think there are a lot of names here that work with the British Royal Family tree but also have strong roots in the US.” So there you have it — smart money is on Alexander, it seems. And you might still have time to place your bet. Harry and Meghan say they have yet to pick a name — and given how private these two are, it might be a week or more before they reveal it to the world. Race Matters: Chase Employees Under Fire For Calling The Cops On The Mayor Of Mount Vernon

Source: Lars Niki / Getty Mount Vernon Mayor Says He Was Racially Profiled By Bank Employees The Mayor of Mount Vernon, New York , Richard Thomas, blasted Chase bank employees this week  for allegedly racially profiling him at a branch in White Plains. Mayor Thomas held a press conference on Monday, April 29, to denounce the actions of JP Morgan Chase workers for calling the police on him a week earlier. According to Thomas, he was at the bank along with his chief of staff and a Mount Vernon Police detective as Thomas sought access to Mount Vernon’s online banking records. “The response by the White Plains Police Department was resolved amicably after one of the responding officers recognized the Mount Vernon Police detective,” press advisor Lou Migliore stated, according to Westchester News 12. “Mayor Thomas believes that race played a role in the Chase employees calling the police. The two staffers who accompanied Mayor Thomas are Black and Hispanic.” The mayor continued to fume during a press conference Monday afternoon and called the bank’s actions unacceptable. “As a mayor and as a young, well-educated black man living during this turbulent time in society where police are being called on black people for going about everyday life, this is unacceptable,” Thomas wrote in a letter to Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. “We’ve seen this happen to two black men at a Starbucks in Philadelphia. We’ve also seen this happen to Oregon Rep. Janelle Bynum while she was campaigning. Now it happened to me.” Thomas also said that he filed a formal complaint with Chase over the incident. “We’ve seen a situation happen where the police are called on people of color, particularly Black people, for no apparent reason,” he continued during the press conference. “And one person said he has a gun, and it was kind of like, ‘What? What?’ Because when we came we announced who we were. We made it clear that the mayor travels with security for security purposes.” A representative from JP Morgan Chase responded to the criticsm and denied that Thomas was racially profiled. The bank countered by saying one of the employees saw a plainclothes detective with a firearm on him but did not know he was a police officer. “Our staff acted appropriately,” responded bank spokesperson Joseph Evangelisti. Thomas denies any claims that he and his staff caused a disturbance and that his detective never brandished his gun.

Why We Can’t Get Enough Of Lauren London’s Character On ‘Games People Play’

Read more here:

Source: Michael Tullberg / Getty Lauren London made her return to television in BET’s new juicy drama, Games People Play Tuesday night, starring in the role of basketball wife Vanessa King. London’s performance was relatable as she unveiled the ugly truth of being married to a successful basketball player who struggles with an addiction and infidelity, all while flashing her mesmerizing smile. Source: BET / BET While the cast is made of black Hollywood all-stars (including a few celebrity guests), it’s Lauren London’s character that we can’t get enough of, as Vanessa effortlessly makes us empathize with the often-idolized lifestyle of a glamorous yet constantly cheated on basketball wife. It’s clear that London’s own experience as a doting mother of two comes through in her role of Vanessa King, as she prioritizes her family both on and off screen. “Being a mother has changed my outlook on life,” the 34-year old actress recently told The Grio, “and I think that naturally filters into my work.” In the series premiere, we’re introduced to Vanessa and Marques King (Sarunas J. Jackson), a good looking and successful couple who seemingly have it all but struggle to keep their marriage in tact due to Marques’ compulsive cheating. In spite of their struggles, we see that Vanessa clearly loves her husband, or “King” as she calls him, and even puts her dreams of becoming a high-powered attorney on hold to become the perfect wife and mother that’ll help take her husband’s professional basketball career to the next level. Like so many wives and mothers in real life, Mrs. King is devoted to keeping her family together, but her constant sacrifices can’t seem to stop her husband from messing around with known side-chicks and groupies behind his wife’s back. As an escape from Marques’ persistent unfaithfulness, Vanessa turns to her sorority sister and gossip blogger friend, Nia Bullock (Karen Obilom), for support and a sense of familiarity in her new Los Angeles home. But in the age of social media and click bait, there’s no escaping that reality as Marques’ extramarital affairs will soon be made public through an exclusive interview with his mistress done by Vanessa’s BFF, Nia. Now, Nia is conflicted on whether to remain loyal to her girl or impress her boss by running the exclusive story about Marques’ cheating. The pilot episode started off with a bang and we can only anticipate that more drama will unfold in the weeks to come. Catch “Games People Play” Tuesdays at 8pm (EST) on BET.
