Alex Trebek suffered a heart attack yesterday and was taken to Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles, but the Jeopardy! is expected back on his feet soon. What THG wishes for Alex Trebek. What is… a full recovery? “Trebek is in good spirits and is undergoing further testing,” Sony Pictures TV said in a statement today. “He is expected to fully recover and be back on Jeopardy! when production begins taping in July for the new season, the show’s 29th.” The popular trivia series just won a Daytime Emmy for Best Game/Audience Participation Show last night. It’s the program’s 14th overall. In December 2007, Trebek also suffered a heart attack, but returned to host Jeopardy! just a few weeks later.
Saturday night honored the best in non-prime time TV as the Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. “Daytime” is classified as 2 a.m. until 6 p.m., so there was a lot of ground to cover for Anderson Cooper and Oscar the Grouch, who served as co-hosts. Despite two soap operas biting the dust this year ( All My Children and One Life to Live ), the annual award gala was a positive one across the board. Notably, despite a ratings dip and rumors of Ann Curry’s firing , NBC’s Today Show nabbed the award for Outstanding Morning Show program just the same. It’s the third for Today , breaking a tie with Good Morning America. Game on. Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa won for best talk show hosts, Jeopardy won best game show for the 29th time (yes, 29th) and so much more. Media coverage surrounding Amber Portwood ‘s decision to go to prison because she can’t hack it in rehab has more or less ignored one key component: Her daughter, Leah. The Teen Mom star was sentenced to five years in prison last week after she dropped out of a drug-treatment program the court ordered her to complete. She could’ve toughed it out, though; Portwood is off to prison because she felt rehab was simply too hard and thinks going to jail is the only way to get clean. Portwood said in her jailhouse interview last week that an overdose drove her to take the five-year sentence – handed down because of her repeated drug arrests, but initially suspended pending completion of the program. The saddest part of this saga, which has become an afterthought, is that she effectively chose to be locked up and away from her three-year-old girl. With the final season of Teen Mom starting tomorrow, this is unlikely to be swept under the rug any longer. The premiere shows Amber going to rehab. In the second episode, she’s in treatment and thinks she’s making some real progress, making her downward spiral even more depressing to endure. Maybe Gary Shirley having custody of Leah isn’t the worst thing, but why would you choose to go to prison and not be a part of your child’s life? Like everything else in Amber’s world, it defies comprehension.
Casper Smart will be accompanying Jennifer Lopez on tour this summer. But you won’t need to purchase a ticket in order to see this dancer in action. E! News has confirmed that Oxygen has purchased a reality show from J. Lo that centers around her dancing tour troupe, and will be led by the singer’s 25-year old boy toy. As the group’s supervising choreographer of the group, Smart will be highlighted on the series, but he won’t be the only mover, shaker and grinder to appear on the show. Look for it to take viewers behind the scenes of Lopez’s tour. It’s unknown if Jennifer herself will make any appearances, but the program will premiere in early 2013. Think you’ll tune in? Mel Gibson was secretly recorded ranting against Joe Eszterhas over the latter’s draft of their ill-fated film project The Maccabees , and the audio has leaked online. Screenwriter Eszterhas, who recently alleged in a nine-page letter that Mel Gibson hates Jews and wants to stab Oksana Grigorieva , says his son taped Mel. Eszterhas’ family was in Costa Rica at Mel’s house in December. He was tasked writing a first draft of The Maccabees , which didn’t go over well with Gibson. That’s putting it mildly: Mel Gibson Rant (at Joe Eszterhas) Eszterhas’ 15-year-old son, Nick, recorded the Oscar winner with his iPhone, and he was “adamant” his dad release it to the media. So he did, to The Wrap. “Why don’t I have a first draft of The Maccabees? What the f–k have you been doing?” Gibson can be heard yelling in the two-and-a-half-minute tape. Gibson also can be heard yelling, presumably referencing Oksana, that “I am earning money for a filthy little c–ksucker who takes advantage of me!” It’s worth noting that while he scarily rants like a bona fide crazy person, the most inflammatory comments Mel is accused of making do not appear. It’s unclear if there are additional audio recordings. Eszterhas has accused the actor of anti-Semitism and said his only true intention with making The Maccabees was “to convert Jews to Christianity.” In a letter to Gibson, Eszterhas (who is Jewish) claimed he continually referred to Jews in front of him as “Hebes,” “oven-dodgers” and “Jewboys.” He also claims that Mel called the Holocaust “mostly a lot of horses–t” and made horrific comments about Grigorieva, John Lennon and others. Gibson’s initial response to Eszterhas denied the claims that he made the offensive remarks he was accused of making, calling them “utter fabrications.” A rep for the actor-filmmaker tells E! that there will be no comment forthcoming on Eszterhas’ recording, and that Gibson has “nothing more” to say. As for The Maccabees , Warner Bros. previously said that they are still “analyzing what to do with the project” that has been shelved indefinitely. Gibson’s infamous rants against Oksana were one of the biggest stories of 2010, and it looks like he still has a good amount of pent-up anger.
Following a record-setting 38-year career as the head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers, Pat Summitt resigned from her legendary post yesterday. The announcement came less than a year after Summitt’s diagnosis of early onset dementia-Alzheimer’s type. “I’ve loved being the head coach at Tennessee for 38 years, but I recognize that the time has come to move into the future and to step into a new role,” Summitt said in a statement, adding: “I want to help ensure the stability of the program going forward. I would like to emphasize that I fully intend to continue working as head coach emeritus, mentoring and teaching life skills to our players, and I will continue my active role as a spokesperson in the fight against Alzheimer’s through the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund.” Summitt – who was named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in 2011 along with Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski – will take on the job/title of “head coach emeritus,” be permitted to sit behind the bench during games and serve as a supervisor to the program she helped build. Veteran assistant coach Holly Warlick has been promoted to the lead job.
It has a stupid title, we can all agree on that. But the Parents Television Council believes the problems with Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 – a new ABC sitcom that stars Krysten Ritter as a mean young woman in New York City and James Van Der Beek as her BFF – go far beyond it’s name. In a new statement, the PTCs says this series “is a sexist mixed-bag of hedonism, drug-use, alcohol abuse (including the main character plying a 13-year-old boy with alcohol to get him drunk) and explicit levels of promiscuity that are shocking even by today’s broadcast TV standards.” The organization is urging advertisers AT&T and Volkswagen to boycott the program. The PTC, of course, once trashed Glee for its depiction of teenage sex and also bashed Rihanna for her “Man Down” video. What do you think? Is Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 inappropriate television?
For his 18th birthday – TODAY!!! – Justin Bieber delivered an amazing fit for his fans: he appeared on Ellen and revealed details about his upcoming new single . But the singer’s manager also made a surprise on the program and shocked his client with a present of his very own: an electric car! On behalf of himself and Usher, Scooter Braun produced the environmentally friendly Fiskar Karma in order to celebrate a celebrity who does so much for other people. Case in point, Scooter told the audience: Justin visited with a Make-a-Wish Foundation child every single day he was on tour last year, with only one rule – no cameras allowed. Watch Bieber react with genuine gratitude in the following video: Justin Bieber Birthday Surprise
Earlier reports stated that former husband Bobby Brown was unwanted at Whitney’s funeral. However Bobby said that was false and did arrive to the funeral as planned. However Bobby misunderstood or flat out did not care about how many invites he had. Just 20 minutes after Bobby arrived you can see him depart with his nine person entourage after getting into an argument with family members at the funeral. Bobby walked up and touched the casket then walked to the back of the church. Allegedly he had a seat up near his daughter but the rest of his entourage would have to make other arrangements. Along Bobby’s side was also his son Landon and other friends and family members. Reports are saying the family did not want Brown to even attend the funeral siting he was one of the main reasons Whitney had her untimely passing. However after Rev. Al Sharpton stepped in and tried to calm the situation down Bobby was frustrated and departed the church (as seen in video below caught by TMZ). And before stepping back in the church Rev. Al tweeted “spoke with Bobby Brown, trying to calm him down and not distract from the services. Today is a day about Whitney!” 1.1024958#ixzz1mlX3Pj2y
