When Cate Edwards learned that her father, former presidential candidate John Edwards, was cheating on her mother, Elizabeth, she was crushed. The 31-year-old daughter of the disgraced former U.S. senator adds that he personally admitted to her that he had had an affair with Rielle Hunter . “I guess he and my mom decided that that was how it needed to be done. So yeah, I was devastated. And I was very disappointed,” Edwards said. “I mean, these are my parents. I had grown up with a lot of love in my family. And it was hard to see them go through this,” Cate said in an interview on Today . Asked if she was mad, Cate Edwards said, “Yeah, of course.” She gave a dignified response when asked about the “unpleasant things” Rielle Hunter wrote in her book, What Really Happened, John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me . “I just thought it was … a poor choice, I guess, is all I can say.” Cate spoke fondly of her mother, Elizabeth Edwards, who passed away after a brave struggle with cancer, saying, “I miss her in sort of big ways and small ways.” “The big things that go by, like my wedding. She wasn’t able to be there. But we got to talk about it. I felt incredibly lucky that I got the chance to even have that conversation with her. “I carried out some of her vision which was great, to sort of feel her presence there even though she wasn’t there. And then there are small things. I mean, I get away with bad grammar.” “I never used to get away with bad grammar.”
Disgraced politician John Edwards suffered a heart attack scare in February and has been warned by his doctors to stop drinking, a tabloid report claims. Edwards “was at home when he started to feel pain and tightness in his chest,” a family source told the National Enquirer, the thorn in his side for years. The magazine claims that (who else) the 59-year-old former Senator’s girlfriend and baby mama, Rielle Hunter , came to the rescue in his time of need. “He was certain that he was having a heart attack, so he called Rielle,” the source said. “She rushed over from her place and drove him to the emergency room.” Edwards was warned that he needs to stop drinking, allegedly, and that his health may be in sharp decline in large part because of his alcohol intake. After reportedly being released from N.C. Memorial Hospital, Edwards returned to the Chapel Hill, N.C., estate he once shared with his late wife Elizabeth. He now lives there with his two youngest kids, Emma Claire, 14, and Jack, 12. He and Rielle are not living together, but may still be together … who knows. We’d say that none of this is true (and we might be right), but we said that about their affair initially when the Enquirer reported it, and look what happened.
Rielle Hunter’s new tell-all What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter, and Me contains many seedy revelations, but this one may take the cake. Elizabeth Edwards kept a photo of John Edwards and Rielle as her screensaver to not-so-subtly torment her cheating husband, Hunter claims in her book. In a book excerpt printed in People , Hunter, who bashes Elizabeth Edwards repeatedly, described how the cancer-stricken wife first reacted to their affair: “Elizabeth requested all the tapes (I’d made of the campaign, as a videographer). On one tape she saw Johnny walking into a room and his reaction to seeing me.” “She apparently told him that he never once looked at her the way he looked at me. So she took that bit and put it on her computer as a screen saver.” “The poor woman thought she was tormenting her cheating husband, using the image as a painful reminder of his foolish, political career-killing indiscretion.” “But in an attempt to punish John, Elizabeth was ultimately just tormenting herself.” If one can be tormented in the afterlife by events here on Earth, she likely is by Hunter and her book. Especially this excerpt near the end: “I’m still in love with John. That didn’t go away, shockingly enough. Marriage? I have no idea. I’m not a big fan of the institution, but never say never.” Except that Rielle Hunter and John Edwards just broke up. Oh well.

Rielle Hunter, the mother of John Edwards’ love child and the woman with whom he conducted a scandalous affair, is about to publish a memoir, “What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me.” (Photos: AP) The news was announced on Friday, one day after Edwards was found not guilty of funneling about $1 million from his 2008 presidential run to Hunter through Andrew Young, a loyal campaign staffer. The jury deadlocked on five other counts, and the judge ruled a mistrial. According to People magazine, which first reported on the book, Hunter’s memoir will be published in on June 26 by the boutique press BenBella Books. Said the company’s president, Glenn Yeffeth, “We are delighted to publish Rielle Hunter’s memoir. A lot has been said. But no one has heard the truth of what really happened until now.” Readers will surely be curious about how the 80′s party girl who is featured in the novels of literary Brat Packers Jay McInerney and Bret Easton Ellis tells her own tale. That tale is a long one. Hunter was born Lisa Jo Druck to a Florida lawyer who ran a horse farm. After dropping out of college in the mid-80′s, she moved to New York, where she dated McInerney. She would appear in his 1988 novel “Story of My Life,” where Alison Poole, the character obviously based on Hunter, is portrayed as “an ostensibly jaded, yayo-addled, sexually voracious 20-year-old.” Poole also appears in Ellis’ “American Psycho” and “Glamorama.” Later, Druck moved to Los Angeles, where she married the lawyer “Kip” Hunter III in 1991, changing her name to Rielle Hunter three years later. She divorced her husband in 2000. In the intervening years, she became involved in Internet videography, rising to some prominence in the field. Supposedly, she met Edwards, then a rising star in the Democratic Party, at the Regency Hotel in New York in 2006, pitching herself as a potential campaign videographer. In it, they describe Edwards’ increasing and increasingly irrational infatuation with the loopy Hunter, even as his wife Elizabeth is dying of breast cancer. It fell to the National Enquirer to first reveal their affair in 2007, leading to near-endless denials from Edwards, despite mounting evidence against him. Edwards made incomplete admissions starting in the summer of 2008, finally fessing up to fathering a child with Hunter in 2010. His wife died shortly thereafter. One of the juicer moments in Hunter’s book will probably be her response to the revelation that Edwards called her a “crazy slut” to Young in 2007 after being informed that he was the father of the child now known as Quinn. Vampire Diaries stars Zach Roerig and Candice Accola have broken up. The two cast members, who kept their relationship off-screen very low-key, first got together in the fall of last year. Apparently it’s over now , though. No reason was given for the split, first reported by Us Weekly . In October of last year, Accola tweeted a photo of Roerig, writing, “Cheering on my man at his second paddle board race! He kicked some major a**.” Roerig also tweeted a photo of Accola in a bikini on the beach with “Go Zach!” written across her stomach. “My number one cheerleader!” he wrote. That was about it for public acknowledgements of their romance, however. Accola, 25, plays bubbly vampire Caroline Forbes on the hit CW show. Roerig, 27, plays Matt Donovan, always a fan favorite … in TVD death pools. The show definitely keeps its romances in house. After a jury found John Edwards not guilty on one count and declared itself deadlocked on another five charges on Thursday, the two-time Presidential candidate accepted full responsibility for his “sins” even as he maintained he did nothing illegal. The politician, who is unlikely to be retried for alleged campaign finance fraud, spoke emotionally about his 4-year-old daughter with mistress Rielle Hunter . Despite his sensational and stunning fall from grace, Edwards professed his love for “my precious Quinn, who I love more than any of you could ever imagine.” John Edwards Found Not Guilty “I am so close to and so, so grateful for [her] … I’m so grateful for Quinn.” It was Edwards’ alleged efforts to use illegal campaign contributions to cover up his affair with Hunter that stood at the center of his federal corruption trial. After praising the jury as “an exemplar of what jurors are supposed to do,” he said, “I want to make sure that everyone hears from me and from my voice.” “While I do not believe that I did anything illegal, or even thought I was doing anything illegal, I did an awful, awful lot that was wrong,” he said. “There is no one else responsible for my sins. I am responsible. And if I want to find the person who should be held accountable, it is me and me alone.” Edwards then praised his parents and children, including grown daughter Cate Edwards , who sat next to him throughout the trial, and spoke of his future. He said he wants to be a good father and to work with poor children. “I don’t think God’s through with me,” the 58-year-old former U.S. Senator said. “I really believe he thinks there are still some good things I can do.”

The Modern Family beauty has split with her boyfriend of two years, Nick Loeb, according to The New York Post, which cites sources who say the couple argued all weekend before pulling the plug on its relationship. Vergara proceeded to attend Monday’s Met Ball in New York City alone. “Sofia was confiding in friends at the ball that she and Nick have split ,” an insider tells the newspaper. “They have been fighting a lot recently and have been on the brink of splitting many times. It is not yet clear if they are over for good, but they are done as a couple for now.” Loeb is the grandson of one of the Lehman brothers and served as a partner in his family’s firm until it went under as part of the financial crisis. John Edwards has never spoken publicly about his feelings for Rielle Hunter , but thanks to his federal corruption trial, plenty of other people are. His former speechwriter, Wendy Button, testified Tuesday. She said Edwards admitted he loved Hunter, though the relationship was “complicated.” Edwards spoke about Hunter when answering mock questions as he practiced what he would say when admitting he fathered Rielle’s love child. “Do you love Rielle?” Button testified she asked Edwards. With Button playing the role of a reporter, the two-time presidential hopeful said, “Yes, it’s complicated.” This was July 2009, according to Button. “Do you still see her?” Button also asked. “‘Yes, she’s the mother of my child,'” Button says John replied. “Is the affair still going on?” she asked. “You’re not entitled to all the details,” Edwards answered . Those questions are ones Edwards, 58, could be asked again if he takes the stand at his trial. The former U.S. Senator is charged with covering up the affair and love child with the help of illegal campaign contributions from wealthy donors. The packed courtroom was riveted as Button took the stand about her conversations with Edwards in July of 2009, when she offered to help him draft a statement admitting he fathered Hunter’s daughter, Frances Quinn, now 4. Last month, Edwards’ former aide Andrew Young said when the politician learned Hunter was pregnant, he reacted by saying “She’s a ‘ crazy slut .'” Young testified that Edwards said, “There’s a one-in-three chance [the child] was his.” John, who was married to the terminally ill Elizabeth Edwards at the time, vehemently denied, but later confirmed his paternity of the child. His adult daughter, Cate Edwards , was so upset by some of the revelations at his trial that she walked out in tears at one point last week.

The season three runner-up, DeGarmo, and the season five finalist, Ace Young, fell in love in 2010 when both starred in a production of Hair – and are finally speaking out now about their relationship. Unlike most couples, these two first saw each naked long before they reached the bedroom, as the aforementioned play requires actors and actresses to bare it all. But “I was already interested in her as a person before I got to see her with no clothes on,” Ace said . “But [that] sealed the deal.” After DeGarmo toured the country with a different show, she returned to California, crashed on Young’s couch – “more like, I crashed in his bed,” she says – and never left.
