CNN reports that the Louisville International Airport will become the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport. The decision comes after a reportedly year-long study on a renaming that was voted on Wednesday (Jan. 16). “This tells the world how proud we are to associate ‘The Greatest’ with not only our great city, but our great airport,” said Jim Welch, chairman of the Airport Authority Board, via a press statement . Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942 in Louisville. An airport in Kentucky is being named after a proud Black man. How dope is that? Muhammad Ali belonged to the world, but he only had one hometown. Bernstein / Getty Rudy Giuliani’s current turn as the attorney for President Donald Trump already has a number of bloops and blunders but his most recent one could have far-reaching repercussions. The former New York City mayor essentially said that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, but continued to absolve the president of any wrongdoing. The Hill reports : “I never said there was no collusion between the campaign. Or between people in the campaign,” Giuliani said on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time,” after host Chris Cuomo said it was false to suggest there was no collusion between Trump’s presidential campaign and the Kremlin. Giuliani added that he has only said Trump, rather than his campaign, did not collude with the Russians. “There is not a single bit of evidence the president of the United States committed the only crime you could commit here, conspiring with the Russians to hack the [Democratic National Committee],” Giuliani said. Giuliani’s statement comes just as special counsel Robert Mueller concludes his investigation into possible collusion, and has already connected five persons formerly aligned with Trump and 20 Russians to the probe. D eputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein ’s job was in jeopardy Monday, as he awaits a meeting with President Donald Trump that could end with the White House in deeper turmoil. See Also: Here’s Everyone Charged In The Trump Russia Investigation Rosenstein will remain in his post for now and meet with Trump on Thursday, the Washington Post reported. The number-two person at the U.S. Justice Department, who’s overseeing the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, was expected earlier on Monday to be removed from his post, according to USA Today . Trump, who has long sought to fire Rosenstein over special counsel Robert Mueller ’s Russia probe, could set off a series of events that ends in his impeachment if he decides to fire the deputy attorney general, USA Today note. Rosenstein denied the claims from anonymous sources in Times’ report. His suggestion to wear a wire reportedly came in the aftermath of the chaos from Trump’s controversial decision to fire FBI Director James Comey , who was leading the Russian collusion investigation. After Trump dismissed Comey in May 2017, Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel in charge of the Russia investigation. The removal of Comey was seen as possible obstruction of justice evidence against Trump. The deputy attorney general began overseeing Mueller’s probe because Trump’s former political ally, Attorney General Jeff Sessions , recused himself in 2017 from the case. Rosenstein has defender Mueller every time the president has hinted at firing the special counsel. Removing Rosenstein has been viewed by many as a first step to replacing him with someone who will follow the president’s wishes to end the Mueller investigation. But there could be political fallout from replacing Rosenstein. Even some Republicans have urged the president not to make that move, especially ahead of the midterm elections. It would be seen by many voters as the president’s attempt to end the Russia probe and lead to calls from the left and right for his impeachment. If Trump does fire Rosenstein, Solicitor General Noel Francisco would assume oversight of the Russia investigation, according to the Times. Francisco was a partner at Jones Day in 2016. The law firm represented the president’s 2016 campaign. Consequently, there could be a conflict of interest if Francisco oversees the Russia probe. CLARY / Getty Michael Cohen , the former attorney for President Donald Trump and a close member of the business mogul’s inner circle, found himself at the center of a federal investigation for a number of charges. In his first interview since his home was raided by the FBI, Cohen shared that his loyalty is his family and country first, not President Trump. Back in April, Cohen’s home and office were both raided in connection to a federal investigation into wire fraud, bank fraud, and campaign finance violations. Since then, Cohen has kept himself out of the public eye while awaiting new developments. ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos sat down with the former Trump fixer for a 45-minute discussion. From ABC News : But in his first in-depth interview since the FBI raided his office and homes in April, Cohen strongly signaled his willingness to cooperate with special counsel Robert Mueller and federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York — even if that puts President Trump in jeopardy. “My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will,” Cohen told me. “I put family and country first.” We spoke for 45 minutes Saturday evening at a Manhattan hotel, where Cohen has been staying for the past several months. And during that time, the question of whether Cohen might flip on the president has been the subject of intense speculation. You can find them at malls, churches, schools, community centers and maybe even just walking down your block, depending on where you live. But the overarching point here is that you can find them easier than ever, which wasn’t really the case just a few years ago. Oscar’s day of reckoning is finally here… Oscar Pistorius Sentenced Bladerunner Oscar Pistorius is going to prison for five years for the death of his girlfriend Reva Steenkamp. Despite being found not guilty of premeditated murder , the Olympian was found guilty of culpable homicide. BBC News reports: South African athlete Oscar Pistorius has been given five years in jail for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. In court in Pretoria, Judge Thokozile Masipa also gave Pistorius a three-year suspended sentence for a firearms charge. Pistorius has now been taken to the cells. Prosecutors had called for a minimum 10-year term, and the defence argued for community service and house arrest. Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide but cleared of murder. Defence lawyer Barry Roux said his client was expected to serve 10 months in prison, with the rest under house arrest. The BBC’s Andrew Harding, in court, says the parents of Reeva Steenkamp, Barry and June, tell him they are happy with the sentence and relieved the case is over. Hmmmm…five years for culpable homicide? Is that fair or foul????
This isn’t gonna go over well… NFL May Be Forced To Reinstate Ray Rice In November Via CBSSports Former Ravens running back Ray Rice remains suspended indefinitely following the publication of the video of him striking his now-wife, Janay, in a casino elevator, but he could be reinstated within the next four weeks, sources said. An appeal hearing date has been set, with a final decision expected to come in an expeditious manner thereafter, and all of that could be resolved by mid-November, which would conceivably allow Rice to sign with another team this season. Perhaps, even if reinstated, teams will find him too controversial to sign, but there is every expectation his playing status will be resolved before the NFL’s investigation into its handling of his case, being conducted by former FBI chief Robert Mueller, is completed. Former U.S. District Court Judge Barbara S. Jones is handling the appeal as a neutral, third-party arbitrator, and all sides in the case have agreed to a date to conduct the hearing in the near future. That date could change somewhat based on what Jones rules this week on some requests the NFLPA made to have certain materials available to them in discovery, but sources said Rice’s legal team has made it explicitly clear it has no desire to wait until the NFL and the NFLPA’s investigations are concluded to resolve the matter of this suspension appeal. Rice has maintained he did not lie in his testimony to Commissioner Roger Goodell, and his legal team will make the case that even under the NFL’s new domestic violence policy, and as a first-time offender, Rice should be suspended a maximum of six games, which has already passed. Furthermore, they will make the argument that the video tape of Rice’s actions were available to the team and the league throughout the process of determining his discipline, and thus nothing changed whatsoever with the case from the time Rice was suspended two games, until eventually being suspended indefinitely, save for TMZ obtaining and posting the video. Numerous legal experts I’ve spoken to believe Rice has an exceedingly strong case, and, considering it could be Week 10 or so before this hearing is resolved, it’s hard for them to conceive that Rice isn’t reinstated by Jones as part of her decision. If he is, would a team like the Colts, coached by former Ravens assistant Chuck Pagano who thinks highly of Rice, or New England, where Bill Belichick has very strong ties to Rice’s college coach, Greg Schiano, take a chance on Rice if they need a running back down the stretch? We wouldn’t be surprised if the NFL is literally BEGGING Ray to take the rest of the year off to keep the heat off of their shady azzes. Image via AP
