REVIEW: Vanessa Paradis, Romain Duris Sparkle in Romcom-Done-Right Heartbreaker

American romantic comedies have become so dismal over the past 20 years that it wouldn’t be hard for even the Romanian film industry to show us up. I’m still waiting for the great Romanian romantic comedy (and hey, it could be out there), but for now, France saves the day with Heartbreaker, in which French-cinema heartthrob Romain Duris plays cupid in reverse: Friends and family members of women in lousy relationships hire him and his two-person team to incite a breakup. Duris’s character, a just-scruffy-enough smoothie named Alex, moves in on these women, flattering them, charming them, and otherwise boosting their confidence to help launch them out of these unhappy unions and get them on the road to better ones.

Sex and the City 2 Trailer: Emirates State of Mind

Nothing says mainstream romantic comedy like the use of a past sell date pop song in the trailer. And since The Back-Up Plan has already co-opted Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” and Percy Jackson (yes, that Percy Jackson ) has laid claim to Lady Gaga, what other song but “Empire State of Mind” could the trailer for Sex and the City 2 use to underscore all its glittery insanity and cast sojourn to Abu Dhabi? Yep, Abu Dhabi…

Jennifer Love Hewitt: I’ll Be Okay!

Following a couple major, recent events in her life, Jennifer Love Hewitt is minus one boyfriend and a lot of hair . Soon after her break-up with Jaime Kennedy, the actress chopped off many inches of her locks, likely in an attempt to start anew. However, a bit of weird timing will make that difficult: Hewitt’s relationship-themed book, The Day I Shot Cupid: Hello, My Name Is Jennifer Love Hewitt and I’m a Love-aholic , went on sale today. “It’s not the ideal situation, but the thing I’m really happy about is that I never say in the book that I know how to find perfect love or how to be in the perfect relationship,” she told USA Today . “I’m thrust back into the dating world as the book is coming out, so I feel more than ever that people will know I’m kind of with them in the trenches.” Despite break-ups with John Mayer, Carson Daly, Ross McCall and now Kennedy, JLH isn’t through hoping for the best: “I’m a hopeless romantic. I love love. My middle name is Love. Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday. I want to have a family and children. I am a sucker for every romantic comedy that comes out.” We’ll assume she means every romantic comedy except The Ugly Truth . “You can allow yourself 72 hours of wallowing time,” the actress says. “Then you’ve got to get into the gym, stop eating the ice cream and move on.” Or you could grieve will fellow recent dumpee Kim Kardashian, preferably by prancing around topless on video. Just sayin.

‘Will & Grace’ Actor Sean Hayes Opens Up About His Sexuality

‘I was never in, as they say,’ he tells The Advocate. By Kelley L. Carter Sean Hayes Photo: Kevin Parry/ Getty Images Sean Hayes, who famously played the over-the-top sidekick on NBC’s “Will & Grace,” told — well, strongly hinted to, at least — The Advocate that he’s gay. He joked throughout the interview, saying, “That song! So romantic for our interview!” when a Frank Sinatra tune came on. He later said — after the interviewer ordered the same dish he did — “It must be a gay thing: the pasta with chicken. It’s all the craze!” He was a little more straightforward when he said, “I am who I am. I was never in, as they say. Never.” Hayes also took the gay media to task for criticizing actors who aren’t 100 percent open about their sexuality. “I feel like I’ve contributed monumentally to the success of the gay movement in America, and if anyone wants to argue that, I’m open to it,” he said. “What more do you want me to do? Do you want me to stand on a float? And then what? It’s never enough.” It’s been nearly four years since the sitcom ended, and now the 39-year-old is preparing to make his Broadway debut in the first revival of the 1968 musical “Promises, Promises.” For years, Hayes was mum about his sexual orientation, despite co-starring in the gay romantic comedy “Billy’s Hollywood Screen Kiss” and, later, “Will & Grace.” In interviews, he would deliver stock answers like “When I play a gay character, I want to be as believable as possible. And when I’m playing a straight character, I also want to be as believable as possible. So the less that people know about my personal life, the more believable I can be as a character.”

Mel Gibson is kind of a d!ck. You never know who he’s going to offend next, which poses problems for his publicist, who’s gotta be working OT these days. The actor’s longtime rep, Alan Nierob, came up with an explanation only slightly more believable than this weatherman’s for Mel’s recent interview gaffe.
