Via NYDailyNews Actress Sophie Turner is defending “Game of Thrones” writers’ decision to include a shocking rape scene involving her character amid rising backlash over Sunday’s episode. In the controversial ending to the episode, Turner’s Sansa Stark, a fan favorite who has been victimized in many ways over the HBO fantasy series’ five-season run, is brutalized by her new husband, Ramsey Bolton (Iwan Rheon). Making the scene from “Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken” more traumatic is the presence of her father’s former ward Theon (Alfie Allen), who is forced to watch. It’s an even tougher scene to watch than it is to read in George R.R. Martin’s original novel, since the horror unfolds instead upon a more minor character, Jeyne. “When I read that scene, I kinda loved it,” the British actress told Entertainment Weekly. “I love the way Ramsay had Theon watching. It was all so messed up. “It’s also so daunting for me to do it. I’ve been making (producer Bryan Cogman) feel so bad for writing that scene: “I can’t believe you’re doing this to me!” But I secretly loved it.” Well, a lot of people didn’t love it. Some of the changes make perfect sense and were entirely expected (A 13-year-old Daenerys would've made for some pretty uncomfortable scenes in season one.), whereas others took hardcore fans by surprise. (Is Sansa Stark really marrying Ramsay Bolton ?!) Here's a rundown of some of the biggest changes between the books and the wildly popular show. Obviously, spoilers lie ahead: 1. Worst. Fiance. Ever. In the books, Ramsay marries a friend of Sansa Stark’s, believing her to be Arya Stark. (Yeah, it’s complex). On the show, the writers chose to simplify things and raise the dramatic stakes by having the notorious sadist marry Sansa, instead. Might be good news for the audience, but it’s TERRIBLE news for poor Sansa. 2. THAT Scene Next to Joffrey’s Body One of GoT’s most controversial scenes showed what appeared to be Jaime Lannister raping his sister (and lover) next to the body of their dead son, Joffrey. In the books, the slain Catelynn Tully returns as the zombie-like Lady Stoneheart hell-bent on avenging her son’s death. That obviously hasn’t happened yet on the show, but we’re holding out hope. 4. Tyrion Lannister: Disfigured No More! In the books, Tyrion is profoundly disfigured at the Battle of Blackwater. On GoT, he’s simply left with a cool scar. Peter Dinklage explained the decision in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, They’d have to [digitally paint] over my face in every frame, and that’s costly and time consuming. I think a scar solves everything.” 5. Robb’s Wife Doesn’t Lose Her Life In the books, Robb Stark marries a young nurse named Jeyne Westerling after he sleeps with her and feels guilty about it. On the show he marries Talisa Maegyr following a slightly longer romance. A pregnant Talisa gets stabbed to death at the Red Wedding. As far as we know, Jeyne is still alive in the books. 6. A Tale of Two Reeks In both the books and the show, Theon sacks Winterfell under orders from his father. In the books, however, he’s assisted by a hygenically-challenged prisoner named Reek…who eventually betrays him and reveals that he’s actually Ramsay Snow. Earlier today, we reported that Marilyn Manson was punched in the face while enjoying some gourmet cuisine at a Denny’s in Alberta, Canada. Sadly, the culprit was not longtime Manson rival Courtney Love , but some unidentified Canadian who, we’re guessing, was made to feel a like a real hoser and threw his mittens to the floor, hockey-style, before the fight. Initial reports stated that someone in Manson’s entourage had called a woman at another table a “b-tch,” and an argument broke out that quickly turned physical. Now, Manson is refuting that claim and insisting that he was actually the victim of a violent attack from a lone psycho. According to TMZ, Manson says he was sucker punched by a man who then threatened to detonate a bomb at his next concert. Scary stuff. And we’re not talking about the kind of scary that’s made Manson his millions. Sources close to the 46-year-old rocker say that he plans to return to Alberta in order to press charges against his attacker. As a new season of Game of Thrones approaches, fans of the show are positing theories and, of course, immediately being shot down by spoiler-happy D-bags who read the books. Emilia Clarke plays Mother of Dragons, Breaker of Chains, and Creator of Boners, Daenerys Targaryen on the series, and apparently she’s a big fan of surprises Either that or she’s every bit as crafty as the Khaleesi, because when asked about the future of her character in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Emilia was about as informative as Hodor. Here’s your requisite warning that potential spoilers lie ahead: First, Clarke was asked about the possibility of her character crossing paths with Tyrion Lannister and even though the they’re meeting is hinted at in a million Game of Thrones Season 5 trailers , Emilia played it coy: “I reckon they’d probably get along quite well, because they’re quite similar in so many ways,” Clarke says. Okay, so we know she’s BS-ing us on that one (You don’t have to have read the books to know that Tyrion and Daenerys bro-down at some point this season.), but how does she feel about all those Game of Thrones fan theories? THR was particularly interested in her thoughts on the identity of Jon Snow’s parents , as according to the popular R + L = J theory, Jon and Daenerys are actually related. Emilia says she wasn’t aware of that theory (Do they not have wi-fi in Meereen?), but she says that even if turns out to be true, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Dany and Jon will never throw down or hook up. (This is Westeros, after all.) “If me and Jon Snow did meet, it would be interesting,” says Clarke. “It would be funny, but I think Daenerys would ultimately kick his ass.” She added that she wouldn’t rule out the possibility that they’ll have a little sword-in-sheath action, as it would allow the Khaleesi to “keep the bloodline pure,” as Targaryens are wont to do. Winter is coming…eventually. Until then, we’re forced to rely on whatever tiny morsels of information we get from the sadists at HBO, like a bunch Flea-Bottom peasants sharing a bowl of brown. But hey, it’s better than nothing, right? The first Game of Thrones season 5 trailer told us very, very little about what to expect, but the Internet ate it up anyway. So in that spirit, let round 2 of the wild speculation begin! Game of Thrones Season 5 Teaser #2 Let’s see; what do we have here? Well, aside from an aspect ration that might make you want to borrow your grandmother’s reading glasses, we have some painfully brief glimpses of what three of GoT’s main female characters are up to. (There’s a shot of Tyrion in there too, but it’s so quick that it’s practically subliminal.) Arya and Sansa Stark look bummed, as does Cersei Lannister, who appears to be locked up. That makes sense, as she was last seen declaring her love for her brother and threatening to take down her powerful family. The marketing for season 5 has focused on the three-eyed raven from Bran Stark’s visions, which seems strange, as sources indicate that Bran and Hodor won’t be in this season at all . Maybe the suits figured since they took all that time gluing a half-marble to a bird’s forehead they better take advantage of it.
