Lil Wayne’s ‘Nino Brown, Pt. 3’ Will Be ‘So Much Greater’

Director DJ Scoob Doo tells MTV News third installment in DVD series is being expanded to capture Wayne’s life post-prison. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: Chris Graythen/Getty Images Lil Wayne has kept a low profile since emerging from prison last month, quietly recording again and showing up at a handful of sporting events. But the Cash Money superstar has been very productive: He’s “93 percent done” with his next project, Tha Carter IV, according to Lil Wayne insider DJ Scoob Doo . Scoob has been with Wayne every step of the way since his release — from New York to Las Vegas and Miami — capturing the moments for “The Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3,” the ongoing DVD series that documents life behind the scenes for the martian MC. The DVD was scheduled for release earlier this year, but Scoob decided to pull back and wait until Wayne was free. The project is expected to see the light of day once Wayne’s LP is finished. “I was planning to put that out while Wayne was away, that was the traditional outlook of it,” Scoob told MTV News. “But Wayne didn’t see the ‘I’m Single’ video. That’s like my partner in crime with this, so to [have] put it out without him seeing [the video], it proves everything — he knows that was a good product. But it’s kinda like putting an album out without him listening to it.” The rapper and his videographer recently sat down and watched all of the clips Scoob shot, which subsequently made their way onto the Net while Weezy served out his sentence. The batch included “I’m Single,” “We Be Steady Mobbin’ ” and the “Pop Dat” videos. The last one, “Pop Dat,” brought home the importance of the project for Wayne. The clip features footage of the Birdman going to visit him on Rikers Island, fans holding up “Free Weezy” signs and more. As a result, “The Nino Brown Story, Pt. 3” has swelled to a larger production, set to encompass material that follows Wayne in the period leading up to his imprisonment right through his post-prison return to the stage during a surprise performance with Drake . “It’s telling a story, and the story is so much greater now,” Scoob explained. “It’s kinda like you’re trying to make a TV show episode off of a major motion picture. You can’t do it, you can’t do it. You can do it, but it’s gonna have to be continued. So, right now, it’s like we on ‘Nino Brown, 17,’ if you will, just to put in perspective of how much video footage we have. How much content we have, how much on a different space we are professional-wise, working together-wise.” What do you want to see on the next “Nino Brown” DVD? Let us know in the comments! DJ Scoob Doo Taking Break From Lil Wayne To Travel To Africa

‘Nino Brown’ director tells Mixtape Daily he’ll shoot Wayne’s ‘Bill Gates’ video when he gets back. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: Leon Prime Celebrity Favorites: DJ Scoob Doo Scoob Doo might be best known for directing Lil Wayne music videos and as the man behind the “Nino Brown” DVD series featuring Tunechi, but the New Jersey native got his start behind the wheels of steel. Now, as a result of his growing popularity, Scoob’s taking his talents overseas. “I’m going to South Africa,” he told us over the phone on Tuesday. Scoob will be out there for the rest of the week and is scheduled to host and DJ a few parties while he’s in town. The breakthrough journey (he’s never visited the continent before) almost didn’t happen, though. Since Lil Wayne was sprung from Rikers Island last month, the MC has been back at work, recording music, shooting material for the next “Nino Brown” DVD and readying a video for the next track from I Am Not a Human Being. And that means Scoob has been busy documenting the process — around the clock. “We’ve been working nonstop on our personal endeavors and projects, and it’s a situation where it’s bigger than life right now as far as my work goes,” Scoob explained. “I was at a crossroads deciding if I was gonna go to Africa or was I gonna stay. So I had a conversation with Tunechi, and Tunechi understood that I’m going away for a couple of days, but when I get back we’re gonna be full up and running, picking up wherever we left off. And when I get back, just to put things in perspective, when I get back, we’re gonna shoot a professional video for ‘Bill Gates’ and it’s gonna be historic.” During his trip, Scoob plans turn the camera around on himself and shoot scenes from the events. “I always wanted to go and it’s one of those places you always wanna go,” he said. “But it’s so, and excuse my language, it’s so f—ing awesome that I get to go and I am getting paid to go and I’m doing what I love to do. So it’s like it’s a bonus. And I’m kind of scoping the scene ’cause a lot of people that I work with always wanted to go but were scared to take that trip. So I’m actually gonna scope it out and make sure that it’s good and everything. It’s going to be a frequent opportunity for all of my clients and partners as far as this business goes.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines . Lil Wayne Hosts Mixtape From Prison — Check Out A Preview!

Weezy calls DJ Scoob Doo in this preview from Fetti Holmes Part 2. By Shaheem Reid “Fetti Holmes 2” mixtape cover Photo: Scott Gries/ Getty Images Lil Wayne says that while in prison , he’s picking up New York City slang. The MC called in to DJ Scoob Doo and told him all about it. “Man, ‘son,’ kid,’ ‘word up,’ ‘word to my mutha,’ Weezy laughs on the call. The footage of the phone call appears in the upcoming Fetti Holmes Part 2, mixtape, a preview of which you can watch right here. “I’m ‘son,’ ‘kid,’ ‘word to my mutha,’ ‘Yo, what’s good B?'” When Scoob asks him how he’s doing, Wayne nonchalantly replies, “Ain’t nothing, man. I’m just sitting back waiting for the day to come.” The conversation shifts to the upcoming Scoob-directed video for Weezy’s “Steady Mobbin.’ ” “Man, I know that sh– look good. It’s stupid?” Wayne says. “Yeah, I put that ‘Single’ video out,” Scoob responds. “That sh– hard,” Wayne answers with excitement. “Everybody’s calling me. I talk about that sh–. Once a day somebody’s gotta say something about the muthaf—in’ ‘Single’ video. I forgot we did that. I was like, ‘I don’t even remember even doing that.” (Considering how many videos Wayne filmed before heading to prison , that’s not surprising.) You’ll be hearing a lot more of Wayne calling in from Rikers Island. The mixtape is a joint effort between Scoob and DJ Drama and Weezy participates via phone-call interludes. New music from Drake and the Birdman also appears on the project. The Birdman pays homage to Wayne on “Jr. Doing Time/ Bigger Than Life.” Those records will also appear on Baby’s upcoming album, The Godfather, and DVD. “Nobody in America or the world has that,” Scoob says of Birdman’s new material. Scoob recently released an excerpt from his forthcoming “Nino Brown Story 3” DVD (due next month), where Weezy talked about his recent legal troubles . “I’m coolin’. Ya feel me? I’ll be home soon,” Wayne says in the video that shows Scoob talking to him on speakerphone. “If you worryin’, don’t worry too much, but keep worryin’. If you ain’t worried, then something’s wrong. But you know, it’s Nino Brown, I got the penthouse suite up here in Rikers, man. I got my feet up. Ya smell me? My team is still holding it down, man. They keepin’ the flood open. I already know how it go. “Ain’t too much, I got in a little trouble and whatnot, you feel me?” Wayne continued “Yeah, they tried to bang me with that. … But I can’t live without my music, Scoob. You know how it is, man. I needed my music. It’s all good. I had to take my little slip-up. I ain’t trippin’. Players f— up.” In a separate interview last week, Young Money’s Tyga said that Wayne is doing as well as can be expected in prison “It was crazy to see him in there in that type of situation, but he’s doing good,” Tyga said of a recent visit to see Wayne. “He’s holding his head up. He was basically just talking about his whole experience in there, everything that’s going on. He knew everything about everything in there, so I was just basically listening to what he had to say.” Fetti Holmes Part 2 is available from DatPiff.com . Related Artists Lil Wayne

Exclusive: Lil Wayne Plays Evil Trick On Short Dawg — Watch It Here!

Watch exclusive clip from DJ Scoob Doo’s ‘The Nino Brown Story, Part 2’ right here! By Shaheem Reid Short Dawg and Lil Wayne Photo: MTV News You’ve seen video clips right here on MTVNews.com from DJ Scoob Doo’s unprecedented access into Lil Wayne’s world. Scoob has taken the footage and turned it into two DVDs, “The Nino Brown Story,” parts 1 and 2. During a recent trip to Atlanta (before Wayne’s jail sentence was postposted earlier this week), Scoob was finally able to present Wayne with the latest DVD, and the Cash Money millionaire gave it his stamp of approval. ” ‘Nino Brown Part 2,’ sh– t crazy!” Wayne is seen saying with a grin a couple of weeks ago in ATL. Weezy was surrounded by Young Money members Gudda Gudda and Short Dawg. In the DVD, Wayne plays a wicked trick on Dawg, a native of Houston. When Short falls asleep in the studio, Wayne puts hot sauce in a teaspoon. Then, the multi platinum prankster puts the spoon in Short’s mouth, literally giving him a rude awakening. “The ‘Nino Brown’ superstar in the building!” Wayne said to Short and the room full of his friends, still ribbing his artists for the escapades in the DVD. Short took the joke in stride, quoting lines from “New Jack City” (from which the DVD takes its name): “Am I my brother’s keeper? “I went out like G Money in that bitch, man!” Short continued, talking about his look in the DVD. Meanwhile, Wayne was tickled at how Scoob captured his jokester side. “You gotta really pay attention the editing and you gotta pay attention to how your verse comes on when you wake up,” Wayne told Short. “Soon as the verse come on, that boy wake up [and starts drinking]. If you would have start singing the verse, that would have been the hardest sh– that Martin Luther King died for. For real!” As the night proceeds, Short drops more famous lines from “New Jack.” “You’re a murderer, Nino!” Short yells, getting everyone to laugh. “Sit your five-dollar ass down before I make change!” Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Artists Lil Wayne
