Rihannaing: Star Inspires No Pants + Hockey Jersey Meme!

A sultry Rihanna, no pants to be found, in a hockey jersey? That’s social media gold waiting to happen right there. The sexy songstress (and NHL fan?) posted an Instagram photo wearing an Ottawa Senators jersey and high heels along with the caption, “Rude gyal!!!” Witness the birth of the Rihannaing meme! GOOOOOAL!!!! Hockey fans jumped to mimic the pic in their own jerseys and thus was born #rihannaing. #tebowing it is not, but it requires no pants, so call it a net positive. Check out some fans Rihannaing up a storm after the jump! Of course, if the Senators suck big time after this, it will be Rihanna’s fault and she will forever be blacklisted in the world of hockey and in Canada in general. Wonder what Toronto native Drake thinks about this.

Former Republican Congressman Pete Hoekstra, now a candidate to replace Debbie Stabenow as one of Michigan’s Senators, apparently thinks it’s a good idea to run this ad during the Super Bowl on Michigan’s NBC affiliates: This ad truly has it all. Unprecedented: Republican Senators refuse to answer questions about their own budget bill

Here is the original post:

Republicans in the Senate, apparently drunk with power, are trying to ram through hundreds of millions of dollars in cuts to local governments, higher education, and funding for the protection of abused children without even answering basic questions about their own bill. A frustrated and bewildered Richard Cohen (DFL-St Paul) grew visibly shocked as three separate Senators refused to yield for a… Broadcasting platform : YouTube Source : MNPublius.com Discovery Date : 03/02/2011 22:48 Number of articles : 2

CBS and NBC Delight in Al Franken’s Sketch of Sessions: ‘Suitable for Framing’

CBS and NBC took time Wednesday night to showcase Democratic Senator Al Franken’s artistry — not to scold Franken’s frivolity, but to luxuriate in it. As CBS displayed Franken’s drawing of Republican Senator Jeff  Sessions next to a picture of the Alabamian, fill-in anchor Scott Pelley admired what Franken had created during the hearing for Supreme Court nominee Elana Kagan: A look over Franken’s shoulder reveals his talent. On his pad is a sketch of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee. Not bad. Suitable for framing. Over on the NBC Nightly News, Brian Williams relayed, sans Pelley’s “suitable for framing” puffery: Well, if you have ever wondered what Senators do during committee hearings when they’re not talking? Here’s what one of them does. Senator Al Franken drew this depiction of fellow committee member Jeff Sessions of Alabama, a pencil drawing on United States Senate stationery. Franken said he would give the signed original to Sessions. Pelley’s entire item, which followed a story from Jan Crawford on the hearing, aired on the June 30 CBS Evening News: What is a Senator to do at one of these hearings when other Senators are talking? Well, it can be an art just staying engaged and for Minnesota’s Al Franken at the Kagan hearing the art is quite real. A look over Franken’s shoulder reveals his talent. On his pad is a sketch of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee. Not bad. Suitable for framing.

What questions would you like to see Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan answer?

Today is the second day of Senate confirmation hearings for Obama's second Supreme Court nominee, Elena Kagan. With the 2010 elections approaching, plenty of Senators are expected to use this as an opportunity to do a little campaigning before a national audience. But outside of partisan positioning – what questions would you like to see her answer? What are the biggest questions facing out Supreme Court these days? http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/30/us/30kagan.html added by: afitzgerald

Senators Trash Thurgood Marshall on Elena Kagan’s First Day [Supreme Court]

You all see that Elena Kagan hearing yesterday? Too exciting, what with each senator giving a vapid, grandstanding speech, one after another, all day. And the Republican attack line was crisp: exploit her connection to history’s greatest monster, Thurgood Marshall . More

87 Senators Sign Letter Urging Obama’s Support of Israel, Media Mostly Mum

On Monday, 87 Senators signed a letter to President Obama affirming their support for Israel while urging his. This comes in response to last month’s highly-publicized flotilla incident in the Mediterranean Sea and the United Nations predictable anti-Israel reaction. A similar letter has been circulated in the House that has apparently garnered 307 signatures. Despite the overwhelming bipartisan outcry — something rather rare in Washington these days to be sure — very few American media outlets bothered to report the news. Fortunately, the Hill published the following Wednesday (h/t Weasel Zippers ): Led by Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) – and signed by 85 other members of the upper chamber – the letter argues that Israel’s blockade of Gaza was both legal and necessary, and that Israeli commandos were acting in self-defense when they landed on the ship. “[V]ideo footage shows that the Israeli commandos who arrived on the sixth ship, which was owned by the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (the IHH), were brutally attacked with iron rods, knives, and broken glass,” the senators wrote. “They were forced to respond to that attack and we regret the loss of life that resulted,” the letter adds. The bipartisan group of lawmakers urged Obama to oppose a resolution in the United Nations critical of Israel. According to JTA.org, a similar letter has been signed by 307 Representatives in the House. Yet, besides the Hill, LexisNexis and Google News searches produced only Agence France-Presse and UPI reporting this news in the States. No newspapers, no television outlets, and no Associated Press. Why might that be? For those interested, full text with signatories of the Senate letter is available here . Readers are advised that too many of the signatures were illegible making it impossible to know who the thirteen Senators that didn’t sign the letter are. Stay tuned.

Michigan

Below are pics from our campaign visit to Michigan. I did something at a finance event I haven’t done in a very long time – I introduced Dad to the crowd (because my Mom had hurt her hand at a campaign event). I have never been completely comfortable speaking in public but it just seemed easier this time because it was my Dad. On to California and Miami later this week! Raisin’ McCain: The Video

Here’s the new video from country music star John Rich who wrote, produced and recorded an original song called “Raisin’ McCain.” It’s about Dad’s life that will hopefully inspire listeners and excite a new audience about the campaign. It’s a great track, so don’t forget to click here and download it today!

Randomness from the Road

Here is a collection of some behind the scenes pics from last week, including Duprey wearing a “John McCain” mask. Tomorrow, in addition to photos from the trail, we will share photos from our fun dinner out at The Olive Garden in Orlando with Senators Martinez, Graham and Lieberman.
