MC Hammer ‘Honored’ That Rick Ross Named A Song After Him

‘I don’t know nobody that named their record after another hip-hop artist ever,’ he tells Mixtape Daily. By Shaheem Reid and Jayson Rodriguez MC Hammer Photo: Getty Images The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Black Mafia Family’s Big Meech, Chicago street legend Larry Hoover and hip-hop’s supreme stage commander MC Hammer — Rick Ross salutes a few OGs on his new mixtape, The Albert Anastasia EP. “Bi—, I’m MC Hammer, I’m about cream,” Ross raps on “MC Hammer.” “I got 30 cars/ A whole lot of dancers, I take ’em everywhere/ I’m MC Hammer.” The stage great behind pop-culture explosions such as “Can’t Touch This” and “Pray” said he loves the tribute. “We’ve been back and forth on the tweets, but my thing is one thing only: face to face, man,” Hammer said. “I’m hollering at him face to face. I’m heading to Miami. You saw the tweets, and the bottom line is, it’s a very unique thing for a cat to use your name. I don’t know nobody that named their record after another hip-hop artist ever. The name of the record is ‘MC Hammer.’ That’s crazy. For an artist of Ross’ caliber, that’s a whole ‘nother thing. Arguably, right now, he’s the hottest dude in the game. He’s spitting fire. For a cat on that level, with his skill set, to have a record called ‘MC Hammer’ and do it the way he’s done it, because it pays a lot of respect and homage to what I laid down, you can’t help but be honored by that.” “MC Hammer,” as well as Anastasia ‘s “Blowin’ Money Fast (B.M.F.),” heated up the clubs in Miami over Memorial Day weekend and has had a steady presence in the streets since the tape came out last week. Hammer said he’s humbled by the Bawse’s show of respect. “I done got every award that a man can get in the music business — every one. I got ’em all. Diamond awards, Grammys, American Music Awards, People’s Choice Awards — you name it. Everything that you can do and every accolade you can receive. But that record that Ross did is on the level of all that. That’s how it feels to me.” Hammer, who also said he loved Ross’ “2 Legit 2 Quit” reference in “Mafia Music,” said he’s down to shoot a video for Ross’ theme song but is keeping quiet about any ideas he and Ross might have for the clip. Amanda Seyfried Leads Best Scared-As-Sh– Nominees At Movie Awards

Sharlto Copley, Jesse Eisenberg, Katie Featherston and Alison Lohman try to out-frighten the ‘Letters to Juliet’ star at Sunday’s show. By Jocelyn Vena Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone Photo: MTV News Zombies, hell, ghosts, man-eaters and aliens — these are a few of our favorite things, and they left Alison Lohman, Sharlto Copley, Katie Featherston, Jesse Eisenberg and Amanda Seyfried frightened beyond belief and competing for the Best Scared-As-Sh– Performance at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards. Sharlto Copley may have been able to fend off aliens in “District 9,” but that doesn’t necessarily mean he will be able to fight off his fellow nominees, none of whom happen to be aliens. (At least we don’t think so.) Will Katie Featherston finally be able to enjoy a good night’s sleep after a possible win for her turn in “Paranormal Activity”? Fighting zombies isn’t easy — so after staving off those annoying undead, flesh-eating creatures in “Zombieland,” will Jesse Eisenberg still have the strength to keep his competition at bay? Although a lot of people would love for Megan Fox to chase after them, her “Jennifer’s Body” co-star Amanda Seyfried wished she could get her human-eating pal off her back. However, on Sunday, Seyfried herself will be chasing after the Golden Popcorn. Alison Lohman went to hell and back in “Drag Me to Hell,” which was more than enough to prepare her for a possible trip to the Gibson Amphitheatre stage to collect an award. Don’t miss the live red-carpet coverage, exclusive movie clips and fist-pumping action on MTV News’ “Jersey Shore Blow-Out at the MTV Movie Awards,” airing live from Los Angeles this Sunday, June 6, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Then stay tuned for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Related Videos Get Ready For The 2010 MTV Movie Awards!

‘District 9’ Star Says Sequel Should Come ‘Eventually’

‘It’s really coming down to a timing issue,’ Sharlto Copley says of plans for a second movie. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Wigler “District 9” Photo: Sony Pictures Given its $115 million box-office success, positive critical reception and overwhelming audience enthusiasm, it’s fairly safe to assume a “District 9” sequel will go into production in the next few years. And when MTV News recently caught up with the film’s breakout star, Sharlto Copley, he told us he and director Neill Blomkamp have definitely discussed a second visit to the District. “Neill has said several times that he wants to do another one. It’s really coming down to a timing issue,” Copley explained. “I think eventually, what Neill wants to do — I’m doing films now as an actor — when Neill commits to something he obviously commits for a significant period of time. At the end of the day, it’ll be up to when Neill wants to do it, but I know he wants to. I would love to go back to the world and the character. I really enjoyed the character.” Copley says that as far as what his character might be up to in a sequel, one thing he’d like for Wikus is to remain on Earth, versus having the film set on another planet. “I would definitely want to keep it grounded on Earth. I definitely have more interest, personally, in work that feels a little bit grounded,” he offered. “It’s work that’s easier for me to relate to. I think that was the edge with ‘District 9,’ the world of Johannesburg and the world of South Africa. I would hope that it would stay there. But you never know with Neill — he really is a genius! If he came up with a good way to put it in another planet, I’d be interested! I’d be there in a second.” Finally, we asked Copley for his take on the much-discussed, did-he-or-didn’t-he-turn-into-a-prawn moment at the end of “District 9.” “You see, this is the interesting thing — everybody just buys that! This is what I’m loving,” he laughed. “Everybody is always like, ‘That’s you at the end, right? That’s you! That’s you!’ I’ll just leave it there! If you’re convinced, then you’re convinced!” So we suggested that frame one of the sequel should be Wikus popping up behind the Prawn’s shoulder … to which Copley laughed in our face. “Right, like knocking his head off with a bat! No, I can’t say,” he insisted. “I can’t say.” Check out everything we’ve got on “District 9.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Sharlto Copley’s Prosthetic Snit Fit

Why was Sharlto Copley replaced by Timothy Olyphant in DJ Caruso’s I Am Number Four ? Variety says “scheduling conflicts,” but FilmDrunk has the much more fun behind-the-scenes story , where Caruso wouldn’t let Copley wear a prosthetic nose and Spock ears to play the film’s inconspicuous, human-looking alien. For the District 9 alum, it’s apparently alien-human hybrids or bust! [ FilmDrunk via Slashfilm ]

A-Team vs. Expendables: Which Mercenary Movie Will Reign Supreme?

It’s a mercenary kind of summer, with The Losers , The Expendables , and The A-Team all ripsnorting out of the studio gates with soldiers of fortune in the saddle. But of those three, there is a certain fraternal bond shared between The Expendables and The A-Team in particular — the kind of weird emotional ping that twins experience when something happens to one or the other, even miles away. Here, in Sylvester Stallone’s paramilitary adventure and Joe Carnahan’s pop-culture recycling binge, we have a perfect storm of ’80s recidivism and ’10s accessibility. And it’s worth studying the DNA samples handed over (via this week’s A-Team and Expendables trailers) to determine which film promises the purer thrill. Your results may vary — read on to find out.
