Jay-Z Slapped With A $2 Million Lawsuit After Reportedly Not Clearing A Sample For His Album

Source: Shareif Ziyadat / Getty Hov Slapped With Lawsuit For Using An Uncleared Sample According to TMZ , Hov is in a little legal trouble after reportedly not clearing a sample for a song off his “Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life” album. Guitarist Ernie Hines recently filed suit against Hov , Roc-A-Fella Records, Sony Music and Timbaland, claiming they ripped one of his songs from back in 1969 and used it on Jay’s 1998 record “Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life” without his permission and failed to pay him. Hines says his track “Help Me Put Out the Flame (In My Heart)” was sampled for the ‘Vol. 2’ song “Paper Chase” but he didn’t even become aware of it until last year because he claimed he was old and doesn’t listen to rap music. Hines also claims Timbaland also used ‘Help Me’ on Ginuwine’s 1999 album, “100% Ginuwine” — once again without his permission or without any payment. Hines says the songs have been played on a lot of platforms over the years, and that he’s owed a lot of bread. He’s suing for damages exceeding $2 million.

Teen Producer Sues French Montana For Stealing Beat For “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” (Exclusive)

Source: Allen Berezovsky / Getty Producer Said French Montana Coopted His Beat For Rapper’s Hit Song An Illinois producer claims that French Montana straight up stole his beat and used it for the song “Ain’t Worried About Nothin’” when he was still a teenager. Eddie Lee Richardson aka “Hotwire The Producer,” sued French Montana for copyright infringement and more earlier this month, alleging the rapper used his work without permission or payment. Richardson said back in 2012 when he was just 16, he made a song called “Hood Pushin’ Weight,” and registered the song with the U.S. Copyright Office. He said he uploaded the song to site SoundClick, a music sharing website and distribution platform. The plaintiff said French then took the song from the site, and the following year, released “Ain’t Worried About Nothin.’” He said the songs were identical, save for the lyrics and vocals. The producer believes French banked more than $5 million from the song, and he wants money damages that equal the amount of profit grossed from the single. It’s not the first time that French Montana has been in hot water over accusations that he stole music. We exclusively revealed that another producer sued him for the very same thing. In 2017 Morocco-born producer Assil Youssef sued him for using his beat for “Lockjaw” (featuring Kodak Black) without his permission. That case was later dismissed.

Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ To Be Released On All Music Streaming Services

Original post:

It’s been almost three years since Beyoncé lit the game on fire with her visual album Lemonade and though most, if not all of her fans already own the classic project, for the third anniversary of it’s release, Lemonade will be available on all streaming platforms. Variety is reporting that the album which was Tidal and iTune’s exclusive will be available on all music streaming services including Spotify and Apple Music beginning April 23rd. The day coincides with the premier of Beyoncé’s 65-minute music film Lemonade on HBO which had the culture in a frenzy on social media and evidently helped lead to 2.5 million copies sold worldwide since then. Aside from being the best selling album of 2016, Lemonade also went on to win a few Grammy awards for best urban contemporary album and best music video. One thing that will differ from the album’s previous release is that it will now feature the poetry by Warsan Shire which was featured in the film during the songs interludes. We totally expect this to dominate once again.

SMH: J. Cole & Bryson Tiller Are Being Sued For Allegedly Stealing A Producer’s Beat

Source: Jeff Hahne / Getty J. Cole And Bryson Tiller Sued By Producer G-Money J. Cole  and  Bryson Tiller are both have an infringement lawsuit on their hands. According to reports from The Blast , these two have been accused of stealing an instrumental created by a producer named G-Money. He claims that Cole and Tiller ripped off his 2013 record “Shawty So Cold” for their respective cuts of their songs “Déjà Vu” and “Exchange.” G-Money—whose legal name is  Gary Frisby—made these same accusations several years ago when he uploaded a 2017 YouTube video in 2017, explaining the similarities between the records mentioned above. G-Money’s suit states Cole and Tiller’s songs feature “the same kick pattern, snare pattern, FX swell, and vocal strike.” and that “the substantial similarities between the three songs are of no coincidence.” Cole’s song “DejàVu” appeared on his 2016 album 4 Your Eyez Only, while Tiller’s “Exchange” was featured on his 2015 debut studio album Trapsoul . The producer is seeking now $150,000 per infringement, as well as an injunction that would prevent Cole and Tiller from continuing to profit off his material. Sony, RCA Records, and Roc Nation are all listed as co-defendants. The drama between the origins of these particular songs is nothing new. The producers of “Déjà Vu” and “Exchange” have also accused each other of stealing this particular beat in the past. Back in 2016, Vinylz and Boi-1da (the ones who produced “Déjà Vu”) accused Foreign Teck of ripping them off when he created “Exchange”–even though Tiller’s track was released months before Cole’s record.

Portland got a taste of Kanye West’s ongoing jam session series. Yeezy recently took it to his sneaker partner corporate offices as a private treat to the employees. The self-proclaimed free thinker hosted his Sunday Service a couple of days early at the adidas headquarters. Accompanied by a live band and gospel choir West performed a bevy of his hits. Also in the building was soul singer Charlie Wilson who lent his iconic vocals on “Bound 2”. On “Jesus Walks” he and team made it more three stripe inclusive for the crowd in attendance with “next time I’m at Adidas everybody screaming out” as a build to the chorus. “Next time I’m at adidas everybody screaming out..” @adidasUS pic.twitter.com/VqJojDUCLH — TeamKanyeDaily (@TeamKanyeDaily) March 5, 2019 Yeezy originally rolled out the Sunday Service traveling show to commemorate the 15th anniversary of his debut album  College Dropout . Source: Courtesy of the Brooklyn Nets / Brooklyn Nets The fashion brand that The Notorious B.l.G. made famous is coming for their coin. Hip-Hop’s favorite sweater design is now the subject of a high-priced lawsuit. Complex is reporting that Coogi Australia is suing the Brooklyn Nets over their recent tribute to the Black Frank White. The team’s limited-edition “Brooklyn Camo” jerseys featured a colorful trim that is very similar to the apparel company’s iconic knitwear design. Considering B.I.G. popularized the pricey cardigans with several references in his songs it seems that their legal gripe does have some merit. View this post on Instagram Coogi down to the socks A post shared by BIGGIE SMALLS (@notorious_big_) on May 3, 2018 at 6:21am PDT In the court documents Coogi took a hard stance on the perceived infringement. “While other colorful and ornamental sweaters have and continue to exist, the highly distinctive and ornamental designs of COOGI sweaters and apparel have become exceedingly famous.” Coogi is seeking monies for damages and are asking that the NBA team cease selling the apparel immediately. Originally launched in 1969 the brand has become  the knit to wear for flex purposes. Since getting B.I.G.’s cosign in the 90’s Coogi has been worn by an a-list of celebrities including Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor, Kanye West, Drake and more. Photo: The Brooklyn Nets
