Shot fired at Al Franken’s condo – Andy Barr – POLITICO.com

Minneapolis and Capitol Hill police are investigating a shot that was fired at the condo of Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.). Nobody was home at the time of the incident, which was not reported until after the senator and his wife returned home to Minneapolis after a two-day trip out of town on Tuesday and discovered the damage to their window facing the street. Franken’s wife reported the incident to police. “Right now it’s under investigation by the Minneapolis Police and the Capitol Hill Police,” Franken spokesman Marc Kimball told POLITICO. Kimball said that “there was some damage to one of the window panes” in a double-paned window. Kimball added that “nothing like this” has ever happened to the senator’s residence. Minneapolis police have not said whether they have a suspect or if they believe Sen. Franken was specifically being targeted. added by: toyotabedzrock

Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Tour Will Gross Nearly $200 Million

Billboard is reporting that, by the time the curtain finally falls on the Ball — which kicked off in November 2009 and is scheduled to run until at least April 2011 — it will have grossed nearly $200 million worldwide. It’s a huge number, to be sure, and it’s more proof that Gaga has ascended to the upper echelon of touring acts. In 2009, U2’s 360 Tour was the year’s top-grossing jaunt, raking in more than $300 million, according to Billboard. Madonna’s Sticky & Sweet Tour was at #2, with receipts of more than $220 million. Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band landed at #3, grossing more than $156 million. In the nearly 10 months it’s been on the road, Gaga’s Monster Ball has made stops in North America, Europe, the U.K., Scandinavia, Asia and Australia. And a spokesperson for Live Nation Entertainment, which produced U2’s and Madonna’s tours — and also serves as the producer on the Monster Ball — told Billboard that Gaga’s tremendous touring success only serves as further proof that she’s arrived on the scene and has seized the public’s consciousness. “It’s an opportunity,” Live Nation global touring chairman Arthur Fogel said. “As an artist with that kind of talent and vision emerges, it creates a lot of excitement, and ticket sales worldwide demonstrate that people are really excited to see the show. “Over the course of the next many months, we’re trying to play to as many people in as many places as possible,” he added. “It’s an across-the-board home run.” Have you caught the Monster Ball yet? -Ground Zero: NY Says No to Rebuilding a Church Destroyed on 9/11 but Yes to the Mosque?

The ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ controversy keeps on going. President Obama weighed in over the weekend with a few comments that hit the fan so to speak. One observation he made is that Islam should be treated just like any other religion in America and I totally agree. In a previous post I commented that I believed that NY was giving preferential treatment to the Cordoba Mosque project and that I really doubted that a church would ever approved by the city to be built at the same location as the so-called ‘Ground Zero Mosque’. Turns out that I was entirely correct. St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church which stood across the street from the World Trade center was reduced to dust on September 11, 2001. For 9 years the NY Port Authority has refused to let them rebuild their church—a church that was actually destroyed in the attack but plans for a new mosque are approved by the city? It is my view that St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church should be rebuilt. The President talked about private property rights and that the Muslims should be allowed to build on their own property near ‘Ground Zero’. Well, what about the property rights of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church? The church had been there since 1922 but their rights are being totally disregarded. The church that was destroyed in the 9/11 attacks should be rebuilt first before any new project like the Cordoba Mosque is considered. It is obvious to me that the Muslims in this case are receiving better treatment from the city than the church. Michael Douglas Diagnosed with Cancer

Michael Douglas has been diagnosed with throat cancer. The two-time Oscar nominee, 65, will under go eight weeks of radiation and chemotherapy and says in a statement he’s “optimistic” about a full recovery. Douglass is married to Catherine-Zeta Jones and will next be seen as his famous character of Gordon Gekko in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps . We wish him the best!
