Mo’Nique’s Brother Admits Molestation To Oprah

‘I’m humbly sorry that those actions had taken place,’ Gerald Imes says of abusing his sister as a child. By Jocelyn Vena Mo’Nique Photo: Frederick M. Brown/ Getty Images While promoting her Oscar-winning turn in “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” Mo’Nique admitted that she had been molested by her older brother, Gerald Imes, when she was a child. On Monday (April 19), Imes sat down on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to talk about the incident and apologize to his superstar sister. “I’m here today to first acknowledge that I’ve been in denial for 37 years. … I did assault and inappropriately touch my sister in manners that were uncomfortable for her,” Imes said on the show. “And for that, I apologize and I’m humbly sorry that those actions had taken place.” Imes admitted that the abuse of his younger sister stemmed from his issues with drugs and alcohol. “The drugs weren’t an excuse. They just allowed me and afforded me the opportunity to do the things that were in the back of my mind as a kid that I always wanted to do,” he said. “Most of the time, the abuse that I did with my sister took place while she was asleep [or] the appearance that she was asleep. “I hid my own molestation and pain and guilt and shame, because I thought it was my fault that these things happened to me,” he continued. “So I internalized that, and I hid behind the drugs and alcohol and then that spiraling thing in my mind, as a child, I wanted to express my sexuality, so I took it out on my sister.” For many decades, Imes didn’t own up to his actions. “The hardest part for me was even to admit to her I did something wrong,” he said. “I downplayed it by saying, ‘If you think I did it … .’ There’s no more ‘if you think’ — I did it. I did it. I’m not proud of it. Mo’Nique, I’m sorry. I can only hope that by coming forth today that somewhere along the line with the apology that, yes, hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together. “I’m doing this to apologize to my sister, to hopefully bring back some family unity,” he added. “I’m doing this to publicly acknowledge. Now let’s bring our family back together.” Imes, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison for molesting another person, said he also apologized to the other victim. As for Mo’Nique publicly addressing the abuse, he said, “I’m proud that she was able to finally get to a place that she could relinquish her pain. When she made the comment that I was the individual contributing to her role, I had to look at her and say, ‘I really understand her pain.’ ”

Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’: Meet The Women In The Video

Tammy Torres and Mizz Na’Tasha play Weezy’s mistress and wife, respectively. By Shaheem Reid Tammy Torres in Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” Photo: Nino Brown Now that Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video has premiered, people are curious about beauties in the clip vying for his affection. Playing the part of the mistress is model Tammy Torres. Torres, an alum of XXL ‘s Eye Candy section, has also appeared in other magazines, such as Smooth. She’s also appeared in other music videos, but her most popular cameo also comes courtesy of Mr. Weezy via his “Mrs. Officer” clip. Playing the part of Weezy’s wifey in the video is the woman the Twitter nation knows as Mizz Na’Tasha — however, Natasha Salimi said “I’m Single” is her curtain call. She’s retiring from the modeling game and focusing on going to school to study entertainment law. “I used to model. I been in Smooth magazine. My last cover is out right now. I’m in AsIs magazine. I was in ‘Notorious’ the movie. I was in Busta Rhymes’ video for ‘Arab Money.’ But I also work on Wall Street and I go to school. That’s my main focus now. The modeling is cool. … You gotta have a backup plan.” Na’Tasha told us “I’m Single” is actually her favorite record off of the No Ceilings mixtape, and she had a blast going psycho in the clip. “It was fun because I got to act a little crazy, stabbing the cake and throwing stuff,” she said. “Scoob was telling me to try and act as natural as possible and think about if I had something like that that happened in the past,” she explained. ” ‘Let it happen on its own.’ I tried to really put myself in the position of the role I was playing. Everything was laid-back, it was cool. Scoob is a great director. It went by quick. We came up with it as we were acting. I was like, ‘Wait, why don’t I act like I’m stabbing the poster then stab the cake?’ ” Related Artists Lil Wayne

Miranda Cosgrove Urges The ‘Importance’ Of After-School Programs

The ‘iCarly’ star has teamed up with the Quaker Chewy Afterschool Rocks campaign. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Sway Calloway Miranda Cosgrove Photo: MTV News Miranda Cosgrove already has a pretty sweet after-school program to keep her busy: her hit Nickelodeon series “iCarly.” But the teen star is doing her part to help ensure that other kids have something positive to get into when the last bell rings. The actress teamed up with Quaker Oats for Quaker Chewy Afterschool Rocks, a campaign co-sponsored by the nonprofit Afterschool Alliance . The aim of the partnership is to extend access to affordable, quality after-school programs to students across the country. Cosgrove thinks the cause is vital. “It’s really cool,” she told MTV News. “They’re bringing after-school programming back to schools.” In March, Cosgrove hung out with a group of students at PS 72 in Harlem, New York. “I got to meet all the kids, and they did a choreographed dance,” said Cosgrove, who was treated to a performance by the 90’s Babies dance troupe, an offshoot of the Harlem RBI sports-based educational program. But Cosgrove is not just a spokesperson. The actress — whose album Sparks Fly is due later this month — will be performing a private concert for about 300 guests. Fans can enter to win a ticket through the Chewy Afterschool Rocks sweepstakes . “I just think that after-school programs are really important,” Cosgrove said. “I remember when I was little, my big thing was I was on a baseball team. I remember it as one of my favorite memories. I went out with my dad and got a whole baseball outfit. And I made up a team name. We called ourselves the Rose Buds.” What after-school programs are you involved in? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Miranda Cosgrove

Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’ Video Premieres On MTV2 Sunday!

Scoob Doo-helmed clip is for song from Wayne’s No Ceilings mixtape. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne and Scoob Doo Photo: Nino Brown Scoob Scorsese is getting ready to debut his biggest movie yet. DJ Scoob Doo has spun records at parties and clubs, made mixtapes and stepped out as Lil Wayne’s cinematographer in the DVD reality series “The Nino Brown Story.” Now he’s taking his next step: video director. Scoob helmed the video for Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” from the No Ceilings mixtape , and it officially debuts Sunday on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Sunday Countdown” and MTV Jams. “The thing with Wayne, if you don’t get a chance to see how hard he worked on the record, and the wit and pizzazz he had with it, he wants to give you that same feeling the first time you hear it,” Scoob told MTV News. “Which he does audio-wise, but him performing it for you in the studio is what really it’s about as far as this video.” In the clip for “I’m Single,” we see Wayne play and perform the song for the first time. “I was there, Mack Maine was there,” Scoob says. “Mally G was there. This is the first time he’s playing it. It’s history. When you hear a song for the first time, you always remember where you was when you heard it. Even if the cameras wasn’t there to capture it, that’s exactly what it would be. That’s the great thing about the video, it’s authentic. It’s your front seat. Enjoy your seat!” The short also has a storyline element. “[Wayne’s girl was made that] he didn’t make it home in time,” Scoob explained of the plot. “He stayed out all night. That’s the idea I got with the song. It brought me back to watching the film ‘A Thin Line Between Love and Hate.’ Me growing up watching Martin [Lawrence], it was epic, it was a funny movie. I loved the cinematography in it. [Writing the script for the video], that was me being a fan of that movie and good music and putting it together.” The video also stars models Natasha and Tammy Torres (from Wayne’s “Mrs. Officer” video). “Tammy Torres is the mistress,” Scoob detailed. “She’s the reason Wayne didn’t make it home — the reason why he’s single for the night. Natasha is the one who has heartache. She’s scorned to the point where she turns crazy and deranged. You don’t wanna cross that thin line.” Scoob said people shouldn’t be surprised to see him in the director chair. It’s something he’s been pursuing for quite some time, he’s just taking the opportunity now. “It’s not something I would call a transition,” he said. “This is something I’ve been doing for a while. I’m excited that we’re making a big deal out of it because I’ve been working hard. I didn’t have to change my format of what I’ve been doing. The people that know me, they are so excited right now. This is exactly what they’ve been campaigning and promoting for years.” The clip is one of many that Wayne filmed before he began his prison sentence on weapons charges last month. Scoob has “The Nino Brown Story Part III” coming up, as well as the Birdman’s “The Godfather” DVD — there’s a video for Birdman’s “Bigger Than Life” that Scoob directed in the can as well. Don’t miss Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video, premiering Sunday on MTV2’s “Sucker Free” and MTV Jams! “Sucker Free” airs at 12 p.m. ET.
