Apparently Keith Olbermann Is a Fan of NB Publisher Brent Bozell

Lefty blogs have been having a field day with a tweet that showed up on Glenn Beck’s “favorites” list – a list of tweets bookmarked, in a sense, by the user – directing followers to a white supremacist message board. Keith Olbermann picked up on the line of attack last night, crediting a website called “Stop Beck,” which he says noticed the tweet. Stop Beck came as close to stating that Beck was endorsing white supremacy as it possibly could, without actually saying it (“Why is Glenn Beck associating himself with white nationalists and white supremacists?”). Since Olbermann is endorsing the notion that a Twitter “favorite” denotes a positive association, we at NewsBusters must thank him for extending that courtesy to our publisher, MRC President Brent Bozell. This tweet , from @themick1962, showed up at the top of @KeithOlbermann’s favorites  (click the preview at top right for a larger image): “Brent Bozell’s Open Letter to WaPo Ed. Re: JournoList http://bit.ly/cnWvL0 Mandatory reading for ALL media types @KeithOlbermann #p2 #tcot” (h/t Tommy Christopher ). We agree wholeheartedly that Bozell’s open letter should be read by anyone with a vested interest in journalistic fairness and transparency. But we were a bit surprised to see that Olbermann feels the same way, given his usual disdain for NewsBusters, the MRC, and Brent Bozell. We’re glad to see he’s finally coming around. We were also somewhat surprised to see a Twitter user with the following bio appear among Olbermann’s favorites: “Unhyphenated American. Constitutional Originalism. Goldwater Con. Extremism in defense of liberty is no vice. Moderation in pursuit of justice is no virtue.” But perhaps we’ve got this all wrong. Maybe Olbermann wishes to qualify the notion that a “favorite” tweet on Twitter represents any sort of endorsement of a political position.

Prop 8 Overturned; Celebrities Tweet Reactions to Monumental Decision

Earlier today, Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker announced his verdict regarding Prop 8, the controversial ballot proposition that was passed in November 2008 and banned gay marriage in California. Judge Walked deemed the amendment a violation of the Constitution’s equal protection clause under the 14th Amendment and overturned it. THG’s reaction to this news? Hooray! There’s no practical argument against the harmless institution of gay marriage, and every reason to treat homosexuals the same as heterosexuals. As for the reaction in Hollywood, an outspoken community when it came to this issues? Here are a handful of responses: Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger : “This decision affirms the full legal protections and safeguards I believe everyone deserves.” Ellen DeGeneres : “Equality won!” Portia de Rossi : “I am ecstatic that proposition 8 has been overturned in the state of California. This is an incredibly exciting and historical day and a big step towards equal rights for all.” Lance Bass : “Congrats on the overturning of Prop 8!!!!” Pink : “It’s a good day!” Adam Lambert : it’s time to “throw glitter on this barn! Ricky Martin : “YEAHHHHH!!!!! PROP8UNCONSTITUTIONAL MOVING FORWARD!!!!!!!!” Kelly Osbourne : “so happy over the news on prop8 its about time!” Kim Kardashian : “Prop 8 was struck down! This news is amazing!!!! Its about time! Congrats to everyone!” Shanna Moakler : “Tonight we celebrate! EQUALITY and LOVE for all! This is so much bigger then [sic] marriage, it’s about wisdom, compassion and knowing we CAN be heard, action DOES make a difference!” Samantha Ronson : “Song Of The Day: Let’s Get Married- Jagged Edge.” Olivia Munn : “Prop 8 Overturned!!! Equal rights for everyone! Nice to be out of the 1950s…” Seth Myers : “Prop 8 was always my least favorite Prop. Favorite Prop: Joe.”

VIDEO Pete Seeger & Mark Ruffalo Protest Oil & Gas Industry

Folk music icon Pete Seeger and actor Mark Ruffalo joined elected officials and environmental advocates in Albany, NY on Tuesday to warn that a new method of gas extraction is destructive, unpredictable, and a threat to public health. Ruffalo, a Sullivan County resident who recently appeared in the film The Kids Are Alright, held up a jar of water from a Pennsylvania town where the method of hydraulic fracturing (or hydro-fracking, for short) has contaminated the water supply. He warned that New Yorkers could suffer the same fate unless the state legislature takes action in the coming days. Seeger, a longtime environmental activist, composed a song about fracking for the event highlighting the similarities between natural gas extraction and oil drilling: “And when 'drill baby drill' turns to 'spill baby spill,' God’s counting on me – God's counting on you.” Hydro-fracking is a dirty, dangerous method of extracting gas from underground rock by drilling a well in the rock and then pumping thousands of gallons of a toxic soup of chemicals into the rock to create fissures that release the gas trapped inside. Many companies are seeking to ramp up gas production by starting hydro-fracking operations in NY state this year. Hydro-fracking has contaminated water across the country from Pennsylvania to Colorado and its effects are the subject of the new documentary GASLAND. NY's Dept of Environmental Conservation holds the authority to grant permits to oil and gas companies. The Dept has stated that it plans to allow hydro-fracking to begin despite pressure from a massive grassroots campaign has been waged across the state to “kill the drill.” One grassroots organization that has decided to fight the oil and gas industry on hydro-fracking on the national level is Frack Action. www.FrackAction.org added by: captainplanet71

Feature Release: New Profile Pages, Activity Streams, Twitter, and Badges!

As far as releases go, this one is stuffed to the gills. There's a lot to cover here, so let's not waste any time. New Profiles With Activity Streams Ever since I began working at Current we've fielded requests for improved profile pages, and feed based activity streams. Well, prepare yourself because here comes feed overload. Today we launch a totally revamped profile page experience, and here's everything you need to know about the changes in place. Viewing Other Peoples' Profiles In the old system, a visit to someones profile gave you a few options to view their activity, but some of the details were missing. For example, what are they choosing to follow on the site? Did they recently connect with someone new, or choose to follow infoMania? This wasn't immediately clear. Our new profile page layout offers a feed of activity that can either be viewed in one catch all stream, or filtered with the following options: Viewing Your Own Profile You might be thinking, “OK, the design update is nice, but this seems pretty similar to the old profile options.” And you're right…sort of. The real difference with profile updates comes in the way your own profile works when you visit it. Before, a visit to your own profile would show you the exact same thing everyone else saw — a list of recent activity. Starting today, your profile will default to an all-new view when you visit it while logged in — Latest Updates. The Latest Updates is a sortable feed of everything the people you are choosing to follow are doing on the site, which means your profile page is now a pretty useful place to visit on a more regular basis. Don't worry, you can still see what your profile looks like to everyone else by clicking on the “My Activity” tab. Go ahead, try out the new stream of activity on your profile and let us know what you think. Twitter Integration We realize that many of you are active on Twitter as well as Facebook, and since you're already a fan of Current TV what better way to share your insider knowledge with your friends than by connecting your profile to your Facebook and Twitter? We've had Facebook up and running for some time now, but today we add Twitter to the list of services you can authenticate on Current. What does this do? It makes it easy to share your activity on Current with your followers, and when you earn badges and achievements we'll even let them know about it. In addition, once you've authenticated your accounts you can use Facebook or Twitter to log into Current. Well, what are you waiting for? Head over to your account preferences and connect your accounts! Badges and Achievements There is so much crammed into this release that I've decided to devote an entire thread to Badges and Achievements alone. Head over here to learn more. This is a boatload of new functionality, so if you bump into any bugs or general wonkiness, or just want to offer some feedback, please send us a note via our

What Are Badges? A Guide To Achievements On Current TV

Literally one month ago we announced that achievements are coming to Current TV, and well, today is the day! We're in the process of rolling out badges and achievements to the site, along with a whole bunch of other goodies like new profile pages, activity streams, and Twitter integration. You can read all about those updates on this post. This post is dedicated to badges. What are badges? They are used to mark achievements that you unlock by participating on our site. For example: Some ways to unlock badges are: Posting and voting on comments. Connecting your Current profile to your Facebook and Twitter. Earning positive votes from others in the community. Posting stories and comments on Twitter and Facebook. And many more! Each badge is worth points, and some badges are worth more points than others. To earn the most points, you'll need to unlock the badges that are most valuable on the site. When you unlock a badge you'll be notified with an alert at the bottom of the page. Don't worry if you missed the notification, you can always head over to your profile page and find a list of the badges you've unlocked under the “Badges” sort found in the “My Activity” tab. We also display the total points you've earned below your username on your profile page. Read our announcement on the blog to learn more about the all-new profile page and activity feeds. Here's a list of the first round of badges we're launching with. Check out the full list, then visit your profile to see which ones you've unlocked. Or better yet, click on any of the badges to see a list of other community members savvy enough to unlock some of the badges in the system. For example, the Ye Olde-Tymer badge is a retired achievement given only to community members who registered before 10/16/2007. Wanna

Kathy Griffin Emotionally ‘Raw’ Over Levi Johnston Engagement

‘I’m very raw about my feelings of being dumped,’ Griffin said about Johnston’s re-engagement to Bristol Palin. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Audrey Kim Kathy Griffin Photo: MTV News Just last summer, Kathy Griffin and Levi Johnston hit the town together at the Teen Choice Awards. The duo were all smiles as they walked down the carpet arm in arm. Cut to one year later and Johnston has left the comedienne heartbroken with the news that he’s re-engaged to former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s daughter, Bristol Palin . Suffice to say, Griffin isn’t holding up too well. “You’re talking to me at a very emotionally difficult time because my lover, who I thought was my fiance, Levi Johnston, dumped me,” she joked at the 2010 VH1 Do Something Awards in L.A. Of course, Griffin is managing to smile through the pain. She made a video spoofing how she handled the news of Johnston’s engagement. In it, with Celine Dion’s “All By Myself” playing in the background, Griffin tears apart his Playgirl spread and teases that she may soon set her sights on Taylor Lautner, thanks to his dreamy GQ cover. “And I’ve done a YouTube about it and I’m very raw about my feelings of being dumped,” she said. “And I think any woman or gay man worth his salt will identify with my raw pain that is very, very serious.” So, Griffin is hoping that fans will stand by her in her pain now that she’s got a bunch of projects on the horizon. “It’s weird because through the pain, you also see me promoting my show, my Twitter, my books,” she teased. Recently Johnston and Palin spoke to US Weekly about their engagement, explaining that they reconnected three months ago while working on a custody plan for their son Tripp and unexpectedly rekindled their romance. “I really thought we were over,” Johnston said. “So when I went, I had no hope. I think we both just started talking — and then we took Tripp for a walk.” What do you think of Griffin’s video about Johnston? Tell us in the comments! Pink Says She Will Perform Friday After Onstage Injury In Germany

‘I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl,’ singer tweets after falling into stage barrier Thursday night. By Jocelyn Vena Pink (file) Photo: Andy Sheppard/Redferns Pink had a bit of a scare during one of her high-flying stunts at a show in Nuremberg, Germany, on Thursday, when she fell into a stage barrier and was immediately rushed to the hospital. According to her Twitter updates from the hospital, however, she didn’t break anything and was “just seriously sore.” “Okay. Full steam ahead, people,” she tweeted on Friday morning (July 16), apparently determined to perform the same day in Salem, Germany. “No pain, no gain. Or is it no brain, no pain? Either way, I will be on that stage, even if I have to crawl:)” During the opening bars of her hit “So What,” a video posted online shows dancers helping Pink into her harness. “Shall we do it?” she asks the crowd. “I can’t hear y’all! Are y’all ready?” Then, she shouts “No! No!” as the wires pull her off the stage and she falls into the crowd. The music stops, as Pink says from beyond the camera’s view, “Oh, f—, that hurt like a mother—-er. Sorry.” Although the crowd’s cheers die down considerably, some fans can still be heard screaming for the pop star while her crew and dancers work to figure out what is wrong with the singer. Eventually, after some moments pass, Pink is able to get up and make her way back on the stage where she still seems visibly in pain. At press time, a rep for the singer had not returned MTV News’ request for comment regarding her current condition or the status of Friday’s show. But Pink’s husband, Carey Hart, wrote on Twitter that she has already been released from the hospital and seemed confident that she would be ready for the concert. “She [will] better feel better soon, she has a show tomorrow!” he tweeted . “No, sriously, she is good. Just super banged up. One tough girl.” As for Pink, she is keeping in good spirits about the injury. After Hart wrote about her encounter with the barrier, she made light of the situation, writing, “Nooo! I WON!! RT @hartluck: Fyi@pink out of the hospital+ all good. Just got the shit kicked out of her by the barrier. Steel barrier-1 Pink-0.” Leave your well-wishes for Pink in the comments! Related Artists P!nk
